I have been tossing this question around for a couple years now... what IS a K'Vyk (pronounced "ke-VICK")?
I guess what I should do is use my Dave Graffam dice (the blank ones) and write a race and characteristic on them. I am really at a loss.
I did good by making my races so far, but this one eludes me. The Natarro Clansmen are my Viking Orcs. You can't get more bizarre than that, but it works. Most of my races are easy to explain... human, robot, and so forth.
Here are some thoughts:
1) Space Elves (done and re-done) 2) Space Elf Cats 3) snake people 4) Brains with tenticles 5) Robotic brains with tenticles 6) Humanoid zombie alien cyborgs (done and done, and done again) 7) "little green men" (although my Cier Empire are dangerously close to these) 8) Disembodied brains that float in a field of pure energy. 9) OTHER: be specific!
I really want something that is unique and cool.
They are the MOST advanced race in the galaxy and have the highest level of technology. They came to our galaxy with the sole purpose to conquer and enslave the "weaker" beings the encounter.
Much like their technology and equipment, it is very powerful yet fragile. They have strong shields, but a weapon can rip through them like tissue paper.
The race is very arrogant and think no one can challenge them. Their technology is so far beyond what other races have encountered, they never estimated things like flint-lock or ballistic weapons can penetrate their shields which are designed to block laser and energy-based weapons.
They flew in fearless and determined until they encountered the "Savages" had projectile weapons... missiles ignore shields and they started losing ships on their first invasion attempt.
So, now that you "know" a little more about the K'Vyk, help me put a face on them, please!

So, they destroy.... eat.... everything on they route? Space Locusts is the first thing that comes to my mind. Red Ants as second thought.
If you want to push on the IQ traits, why not make that they're....the Machines themself? So, no robots, just computers which build they're body (cases) for a purpose. A spaceship is not a "vessel", but instead a single entity which developed itself for that job.

My first thought was "a Scandinavian duck," but then I thought, "Nah... dot vould be a K'vak!" ;D
In my opinion, the more bizaar these characters, the better!
Have fun! Steve

Don't know why, but I'm thinking crystalline brains. and yeah, they build/grow their bodies using nanotechnology in whatever shape (and size) they need. All linked in to a hive-mind/interweb, they actually meld with and reform whole mineral rich asteroids to fly around the galaxy. Their shells could be carbon steel but the brain inside is a spiderweb of salt-like crystals with billions of connections

This would leave them physically fragile, and have a totally cool Futurama vibe to it. Instead of going the brain in a jar route, that's been done, all the models could be energy constructs with a brain floating in the middle of them. A little digital editing could turn any black line into a colored line, and a transparent fill would give you a great effect, or you could draw it Green Lantern Style. Now imagine a Brain in the cockpit of this... Or in Sinestro's place here This looks cooler than a floating brain

WOW! All very good ideas! Parduzs' idea made me think of the Cylons from what I call, Battlestar Galactica: the Next Generation! I have a bunch of Ebbles TriLateral Union from the Saga of the Uppidy Robots. That is one idea... The brains are cool. I was also thinking of something like the "seekers" from the Matrix. A brain encased in some metal shell with tenticles. The thing about Parduz's idea, in retrospect, I need to have foot troops. I am kinda over-doing the whole "slave" as the infantry... because they don't take prisoners. They want to "cleanse" the universe of its "impurities." I will most likely make the army leader a being called the Purifier. If I WERE going to make a race of bug creatures, I would enlist Reivaj's Thri-Kreen. I haven't seen ANYONE do bugs like that, hands down! I am pretty much against the whole "animal" races for now. I can always switch out races, or add more as technology improves and is added. The lastest technology, CLUSTER WEAPONS, will add more potential to the game. Keeping things balanced is the MOST important aspect of ERA OF WAR! I have each race with certain "technologies." If I make Cluster Weapons part of the "special" weapons class, then they are openly available to everyone. If I make them their own class (like pulse or laser) then I can open up MORE reaces. Right now, I have 10. There are 5 classes of weapons, and each race get two. If I add a sixth, then I will end up with more races... 15 to be exact! If I added ION, then ther would be 21! I don't know of ANY game that has 21 races... I could always break down things like the SYNFED into different factions or houses. I will have to keep working on this! Keep the feedback coming!

I am really torn! I like the Matrix things, but I keep thinking of the figure Parduz is working on for the hoard with the skull inside the spacesuit... then there is the figures that DARKMOOK is releasing where there is a brain in a spacesuit. I really am loving the "brain" idea, because my "company" is called "Grey Matter Games" so I want to have it as my "logo" or at least some part of it. Come to think of it, Dave Okum did his retro aliens that kinda looked like brains in spacesuits. I am really stumped!

WOW! This thread is over a year old! I finally found out the answer.... The K'Vyk (pronounced "KIV-vick") are indeed a race of green-skinned aliens (similar to the ones found in Glenn Williams' old stomping ground). Only these aren't "little green men." With their power armor, they are quite powerful! Furthermore, they have an industry first... a 2D/3D war walker! This set is going to be hard-pressed to be out by Christmas, and I wanted to get teh ERA OF WAR rulebook out, too... I don't know how I can do both. This set is going to have vehicles, and over 40 (yes, FORTY) figures in it. No more having 6 of one figure in a squad! You can actually buils your army and squads by selecting the figures you want! I have more work to do, so I better get off of here. Attachments:

Well, the K'Vyk Invasion Force is DONE! If I want to get teh core rulebook out, I am going to have to act FAST! I have about 2 days until Christmas (which was my deadline I set for myself). I mentioned I was going to have over 40 figures in the set... it weighs in about 84 (yes, eighty-four). The various squads are all color-coded, and the vehicles (Camels, Walkers and Grav Bikes) come in Desert Camo, Arctic Camo and Stealth (black). You can choose from over 30 core units (with Laser Rilfes, Projection Rifles, Laser Pistol and Projection Pistols), three Fast Assault units (including squads of Jump Troops, Camel FAAV's and Grav Bikes), War Walkers for your Heavy Support and four Commanders to choose from. If you can't find figures in this set that you LOVE, then you aren't a gamer! Keep an eye out... the invasion is getting ready to begin! Attachments:

Liking the look of the army on the table, And lots of different troop types plus the walker and car. Even if people aren't using era of war rules this set should have good versatility across to things like No Limits, Flying Lead, 5150, defiance and about 100 other generic sci-fi rulesets . Don't forget to put some artwork in your rules . Edit: I forgot to say Congratz on finishing the army.

Thanks guys. I can forget about using the "Poster" idea for this set. I think I am going to do a cover kinda like a movie poster... a GIANT K'VYK face in the foreground, with a couple grav bikes to the upper right, a war walker to the lower left, some base troops (that Humans term "Frogs") to the bottom right, and then a little something special to the upper left! I want to finish the rule book today, and finish the final "sketches" for the inside tomorrow. I think that a feel of the old "West End Games" RPG's will work well. A LOT of B&W drawings to give you the feel of not only the game, but the universe, and some color photos here and there to explain the rules and show off the figures. I was excited to get the "go-ahead" from a couple of friends to allow me to use their terrain in the photos! So, you can be seeing stuff from Dave Graffam, Finger and Toe, PERMES and Paper Make iT! in the shots, as well. Thank you to ALL of my friends here that have actually made my dream of nearly 20 years become something that will be released in less than 48 hours! ;D
