Kartonowe Figurty, www.kartonowefigurki.pl/index.html , a Polish site that sells current "paper soldier" ( they are very similar to our paper "miniatures" but not identical, imho ), with front and back, are a free downloads' page with twenty and more free pdf ( with one/two "soldiers" each ) link: www.kartonowefigurki.pl/sub-pobranie.html( or, from the home-page, push the third yellow button from the top on the left, "do pobrania" ) There are Greek Hoplites, Trappers ... and many others. NB: with google translator ( I use this in polish/russian sites and read in english ) downloads don't start. only from original page. Ciao

How much will you have to reduce those to get to 28mm?
They do have quite a collection

Doing 4 to a page via pdf printing seems to get you very close to 25/26mm, that should put them around Sanity Studio scale. Through GIMP I'm seeing a 50% scaling as putting them at 29mm to the eye. A Scaling of 45% putting them at about 29mm to the top of the head this was with the Greek Hopelites so they are a little hunched over so maybe add an extra 1-2mm for them if they were standing straight and tall. I added a black border to a couple very easily but as I can't tell what license they are under so I wont share them. Hope that gives you a start Vermin King

I went to the website and had a good time browsing around, especially the galleries. Apparently the product is a magazine dedicated to cardstock soldiers of all periods. Cardstock figures come in each issue, and subscribers can download bonus figures. At least that is as much as I could figure out. I may be grossly wrong.
I printed out a few of the free downloads, and they are very good. They print out at 60mm from the soles of the feet to the eyeballs.
Have fun! Steve

Wonderful work--almost makes me want to learn Polish--after all, a magazine with free figures? That's like S&T in the old days.
Don't forget to check out the scenery as well.

This is a private section of a non-commercial forum, technically we could post here our modified figures ( especially if the change is only in the size of the image ) But surely we can post photos. ;D If you are interested I can ask permission to editor ( I would like contact him for more informations about I would like to contact him for more information on purchasing.

Hello! I'm glad that you like Kartonowe Figurki website (Cardboard Figurines) and Kartonowa Armia (Cardboard Army) bimonthly published magazine - professionally printed on high quality special paper with inserted sheets full of figures, accessories etc.... Those sheets are printed on special heavy double-layer cardstock plus after printing they are covered with thin lacquer film for even better contrast/colour and in order to prevent figures from sunlight, fingertips etc... ) You can easilly check whats inside each issue by simply clicking on cover thumbnail: www.kartonowefigurki.pl/sub-bsn.html... well, perhaps first issues should be better described :) Especially for Cardboard Warriors website members: please find below some newly designed Dark Fantasy Series preview (err... not shure if all pictures will be visible - first time posting here - so I'm upfront sorry :) Figures are almost finished but not coloured yet (except Dark Monk in the middle which is taken from already released set KA28 Dragon Masters) and generally its a litle bit different graphic style - kinda more realistic - then previously (well, ofcourse colours will be more bright/saturated and all the additional effects like textures, sunshafts, shadows, blood stains etc... should be added). And YES - there will be 30mm version as well. Anyway, hope that you will like it :) Actually I am working paralelly on just mentioned Dark Fantasy and Sci-Fi series ( www.kartonowefigurki.pl/sub-scifi.html), and... frankly speaking got no idea so far which one will be finished first ;P One more thing - according your questions - I'll try answer them all - but... only after New Year, OK? Cheers :) PS english is not my native language thus sorry for any grammar, wording/spelling, typos etc... mistakes - somehow till I press "Post" they are usually very well hidden ;)

As promised in Elven Ambush thread I'm posting just a couple of scans of some old Italian paper (from mid's 60s) with Paper Soldiers - regarding to what Rhannon mentioned about European Paper Soldiers preferences/tradition. They are simply excellent - simple but yet refined, somehow old fashioned but classy! I like even flat, pastel colours - additionally they got this specific matt look, mostly due to the used printing techniques - but it just add an additional flavor :) In fact in some of my graphics (not paper minis though) I am trying to simulate this kind of old fashioned look and feeling. Hope you will enjoy them as much as I am: I would really like to see more projects from this artist! So Rhannon - maybe you can find something more about this artist and this paper/magazine - as far as I remember there was much more from him? :) I got also some scans of similar Polish 50-60-70's magazines with Paper Soldiers - perhaps someday I will post them as well, of course only if you find this kind "oldies" interesting. Regarding other issues mentioned in this thread - I am sorry for delaying with answers - I was so attracted and busy working on Elven Forest Ambush Set that I simply forgot about whole world - I will get back to this soon :)

OT ;D ;D ;D There is a very good italian site/blog "Soldatini di carta" ( obviously "Paper Soldiers" ;D ), luigisaso.altervista.org/ . it is in italian/english ( unfortunately, not everything is translated into english ). On the left there is the menu buttons. There is a "Download Page" but there aren't paper soldiers. Only card models ( airplanes, cars ... ) Under the download button (the ninth from the top) there is a "Soldatini del CdP" button ( "Soldatini" is "toy soldiers" CdP is " Corrierino dei Piccoli", "little messenger for kids", an italian old magazine for kids. I'm 6 years old when my grandfather bought me it. In 1972 ... ;D ) Only in this section there are many sub-sections, not translated but all have a year date. The sheets start from 1931 to 1972. During this long period there were many designers/artists. Sergio TOPPI is one. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergio_Toppi ( english wiki ) it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergio_Toppi ( italian wiki ) But he wasn't the only. Hugo PRATT ( the creator of "Corto Maltese" if you know ) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Pratt ( english wiki ) it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Pratt ( italian wiki ) Dino BATTAGLIAen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dino_Battaglia ( english wiki ) it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dino_Battaglia ( italian wiki ) ... and many other famous ( in Italy ) comic artists. It's for you. Polish Army ( a 1932 sheet from "Corrierino dei Piccoli" magazine. The autor is Domenico NATOLI, www.lfb.it/fff/fumetto/aut/n/natoli.htm, sorry only in italian ) In 1960' ( exactly 1959 ) there is, on CdP, Giorgio TREVISAN, another comic artist ( it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giorgio_Trevisan - italian wiki ) Trevisan Trevisan - 1961 In the upper-left a John MARTIN's photo, an Italian-American soldier and Custer's trumpeter ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovanni_Martino - english wiki --- it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovanni_Martini - italian wiki ) 1964 - FRANCESCONI - Battle of Tourin ( my city ;D ) 1965 - TOPPI 1967 - BATTAGLIA - French musketeers 1967 - Hugo PRATT On the site there are many other sections. Many others sheets ( in medium resolution ) 12th Lancers Regiment ( Polish ) "Vittorioso" and "Il Giornalino" are two other magazines for boys. CORSI ( Marco CORSI ), HVT ( Hugo Van Trotten ), VAIANA ( Luigi Vaiana ) ... are artists that rework old sheets or produce original works.

When my brother and I were kids, back in the 1950s and '60s, we found some pictures in a book of some old paper soldiers printed in Epinal, France in the late 1800s. They might have been Franco-Prussian War soldiers.
We used to have fantasies about getting European paper soldiers, but that was a LOOOOONG time before there was an internet!
Now, finding all these Polish and Italian paper soldiers is like having a childhood dream come true!
Thank you all so very much!
Have fun! Steve
