It has that cool "not quite sure what it is so it must be important look" about it.

Could even be a machine-that-goes-"ping"

maybe a 'smaller than a breadbox' item transporter or a 'place the enemy's head in the bin to retrieve memories' device.
who knows
I do think that if you have an RPG going and the party reaches a room that has this in it, they'd have to check it out

Perfect Gamma World Prop.
The punch line for GW is that it really is a grain sorter. Will keep your evolved animals and vegetables busy for hours.

Nice model. I just rescaled it for use at 28mm and got 9 to fit on a single sheet in gimp. I turned it from 100 dpi to 300 dpi. They will stand about 1.7 inches/43mm tall now. I'll try and post a picture later when I'm done. Thanks for posting that.

Pretty quick build. Most of the little tabs you can cut off. There are two sets of small tabs mark with a "C" , keep the slightly larger one. It could have been designed to fold together better. I'm tempted to redo it for folding , but probably won't. It's not that bad. I also put two pennies inside it to give it weight.

I had a GM drop in a 'magical' item once ... a Bic Lighter ... LOL More or less the same in a campaign i played in once. It was a "futuristic stone age" campaign - we were living in an old earth generation ship where technology and civilization had broken down and people had forgotten the old ways. A stone age society with one "magical" item - the relic of an age long forgotten - a lighter... /Cobra
