THat would be a great price in the UK, I'm not sure if they are cheaper in the US though. But I'd be more than happy to pay that. It's the same model I'm using right now. It's a great little machine. Once the carrier sheets have stopped working, just spray them with spray adhesive, leave for 30 seconds then pat with an old cloth to make them tacky not sticky (unless you can find a good low tak spray), I haven't had to buy any new carrier sheets, just keep refreshing the old ones. Oh, and don't get the carrier sheets mixed up. I got a green one 'for card' and a clear one 'for lighter materials' made the mistake of using the green one with some coated paper, instantly ruined it. (but just cleaned it in water to remove the paper and glue then sprayed it with spray glue)

That's a good price, it's what I paid for mine a few years ago.

I would consider a Silhouette Cameo or at least getting one of the updated adjustable blades for the SD (someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe they are compatible). I don't own an SD myself but I have read a few reports that the normal SD blades can have problems with 110 Lb card stock. Maybe some SD owners could comment. The Cameo can also cut up to 12 inches wide, which may or may not be useful to you. It isn't that useful to me but made the machine an easier sell to my wife who thought it would be good for her hobbies. The Cameo is a little more expensive though (about $260 www.amazon.com/Silhouette-Cameo-Electronic-Cutting-Tool/dp/B005Y1CPSU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332972708&sr=8-1)and doesn't include the extras which are neat but might not be useful to you. My favorite feature of the Cameo is the pause button which is really nice to have when you just realize you started cutting from the wrong file or the machine didn't correctly find the registration marks and starts cutting in the wrong places. Saved a few pages with that one. My understanding is that the SD doesn't have a single button to press to stop cutting. (I could of course be wrong as I have never actually used an SD, just read about them). The plus side of the SD is that you don't have to switch out the registration marks on the FDG stuff. The Cameo can't use the SD marks (or I haven't done it successfully) and vice versa. It isn't hard to switch them out but it is one more thing between you and cutting.

Disclaimer: I have never used a Cameo, my only cutting experience is with the Silhouette SD. 110lb cardstock: The only problem I ever had with this was after a year and some 300 pages cut my knife started to go a little dull and didn't cut all the way through when going one direction on it's cuts. However, the dull blade applied to all flavors of paperstock. Bought a new blade for $12 and carried on. Pausing: I've found the power button works well for this. Okay, it's not really a pause button, more of a, "Oh >bleep<!", button. The change in reg-mark styles on the new machines is what kept me away from upgrading to the Cameo.

I have the new Cameo and it rocks. The thing cuts crazy accurate and I am completely satisfied with it. Re-printing a page with the updated reg marks is easy enough. If you already have print outs you can color in a solid 7/16" square, depending on the orientation of the print. The software also recognizes the older GSD file format from CraftROBO so it's a win win. I would highly recommend getting one.

It looks like the SD has been discontinued in favor of the Cameo, if that has any weight on your choice.
