hey guys, I'm a little stumped on my "medieval tank" model. I want it to look like a real ballista but making it with a top and bottom with twisted rope in between is going to be too fiddly. Any suggestions?

I think a 'concept sketch' might be helpful to us

Computer comes back from the shop tomorrow and rain will put an end to the reno's in the PM so I may be able to scan something in. I may have worked out a compromise in the meantime.

Good. Not knowing in general where this was going, I couldn't offer suggestions. Sorry

so, right now I'm picturing the frame around the twisted ropes as simple double sided sheets. I kind of would like something more robust, but building four boxes ( top, bottom, sides) seems like too much work to build. Comments?
Hey, were'd my pic go?

After looking at the pic you posted, I'd agree that a two sided strip representing the twisted rope should be a good solution.

Now that I've got some time, I might actually end up finishing the textures for my Martian rover model...

Nice shapes. Character without being 'fiddly'. This should be very nice.

-Tatterdemalion, It has a bit of a mini Jawa Sandcrawler feel to it. I really need to start building my vehicle tonight. Here is the texture for the "Gas Bag". I put it through Gimp to give it more character.

I'm planning on building this guy tonight.
Has a 'not sophisticated workhorse' feel to it. Kind of like in WWII when they were needing bunches of tanks in a hurry and weren't going super-technical with them.

I like the hand drawn look of it Stevelortz. Did you draw it then scan it? Yep. My neuron pathways were set up in the days of slide rules and manual typewriters, back when cutting and pasting was done with real paste. I had a lot of fun doing this, and I hope other people will find it a fun model also! Have fun! Steve

I like the geometry of the truck, and I'll find the blank template quite useful.
