OK i could not help myself, the kid and i was playing and hooked up a little rig so the tiny fighter could be attached to my iphone... and well... here is the result..
yes yes i know you can see the wires... it was done in a few hours...
but it gives you a nice flyby view of all of the starter set's ships...

Thank you for this. I don't care about the wire, the feel is just great. This video made my day better.

Nice, I liked the video! Simply awesome looking ships. I still can't believe how small and yet awesome looking the fighters are, lol! ;D

LOL it was actually harder than i thought it would be... I kept knocking over the ships when i was looking through the iphone screen and only had any real success when i looked at just guiding the fighter, but then you could not see the other ships....
I think this particular takes was 23 and 24th hehe...
;D ;D ;D then the video is a success. I cut the sound out as i was making flying sounds and sounded as if i was a bit special... it was surprising fun flying around them... i actually ended up flying around the house and attacking the dog... but due to the narrow focus of the camera you cant see much.
I lost two when i accidentally dropped them.. they are small but surprisingly easy to make if you are very very careful... They are my favorite models from the set.

Looks like you printed off your 'star map' at a pretty good size. Does your printer handle that or did you have it printed elsewhere?

I actually painted it. All it is, is a black cardboard that you can get at any craft store or larger supermarkets, some white paint (acrylic based) long bristle paint brushes and a toothbrush... I am actually in the middle of making a tutorial video with my kid for my youtube channel about it LOL... at the moment we stuck with what to call him... he insists on being called scooby doo... I did order some prints of a digital version i made and created these for intrim pictures but to be honest i now love these, they cheap, quick and easy to make with great looking results. I will experiment a bit with colours as well to bring in the red and yellows of some of the stars...

The board looks really nice! I'll definitely have to watch your tutorial when it's done and try it out, cause I've really been looking for a cheap yet neat way to make a star board. I'm also planning on using lava rock for asteroids because they look exactly like them, lol.

Phenomenal!
It looks a lot better than the ceiling of my son's room. When he was little we got all kinds of little glow-in-the-dark stars that we placed all over his ceiling. Lights go out and the stars come out. You can't see them with the light on.
