I am bashing some rules from Evil Stevie's pirate game and Perfect Captain ship rules but I'd like some 15mm pirates.
My feeling is that Permes (beautiful) stuff does not shrink well. Does anyone have suggestions?

You could try shrinking Imperfect Pirates and Imperfect Sailors, I've never tried printing them at half-size. Dryw the Harper

Why didn't I think of that I had a look at them in GIMP and by upping the contrast and the brightness after shrinking I think they will work. I'll try printing them tomorrow, if time allows I can even mix in imperfect swashbucklers, and the ships I design will be nothing if not imperfect ;D

SO you need to change the name to "IMPERFECT CAPTAIN ship rules.."
(Don't know how to quote, so you can just check out the first line of the first post to see what I am saying)....

I get it. Now I'm thinking "Imperfectly Evil Captain Stevie's Pirate Game" I actually have a lot of things I should do first, but I may have to build one ship to see if I can make it work.

...I'd like some 15mm pirates. My feeling is that Permes (beautiful) stuff does not shrink well. Six pirates completed, another twenty to go... Colors look good and figures retain a good amount of detail even in 15mm scale Photo by Gilius@ Cowboyleland Don't you wanna try? =>>>just PM your email and I'll send you sheet or two full with pirates for tests

Mail sent! That's what's inside - enjoy... BTW:If anyone wanted do some 30=>15mm scale tests with various PERMES figurines - drop me a line which series / set / figurines you are most interested with - I'll try to send sheet or particular figurines or perhaps will prepare some bindery/miniset with free test? (I can do it in my free time, so do not expect immediate reply). No obligations, just for fun - although I'd appreciate some photo and feedback/suggestions after you succeeded /or not/ with 30 to 15mm scale figurines.

Not sure if you're interested in undead pirates, but my Skeleton Scallywags also scale down to 15mm really nicely, because I put a lot of contrast into the details. You might opt to use some other basing method however, because my bases might be a little fiddly at such a small scale. This is a scan of a quick test print. I'll try find time to test build them a little later.

Unfortunately I don't have my good camera with me at the moment, so the photos aren't great. Comparison with the normal sized figure. Close up to show the detail

I've been down-scaling my figs lately too. One thing I have discovered is that printing on matte photo paper is a definite must with 15mm. The difference between the photo paper and regular cardstock is ridiculous! Jim's old figs (onemonk stuff) scale down quite nicely. I have yet to try Mesper's awesome figs... but that will come this weekend. I have discovered that printing 4-up through Adobe Acrobat works like a charm! The only thing is the PDF's need to be in the same file... So, after a trip to Googleland, I discovered www.pdfmate.com/free-pdf-merger.html a free program that merges multiple PDF's into one and creates a new 4-up PDF full of 15mm figs for you! Awesome! onemonkeybeau

That was quite a find OMB, but it only uses A3, A4 and A5 formats. Although A4 is "pretty darn close," it adds 3/4" (19mm) to the top ot the page (I am assuming the bottom, as well, but on single pages (with wall to wall text like the one I just did for a gaming company), then it cuts off the bottom of the page.
For this, though, it seems to work well... enough.

Not to side-track this thread...
I thought I would try to put multiple copies (4) of the sam e file (I was trying out my Aerospace Fighter). It worked. There were now 4 copies of my Aerospace fighter at half-scale.
I took THAT PDF and made 16 on a sheet (now they are roughly 1 3/8" from the original 5 3/4" version.
The pros: I was able to make MULTIPLE re-sized copies in a matter of seconds.....
The down-side, the last row of fighters was cut off (the underside of the port wing.
If you planned ahead on this, it could be VERY useful.

I haven't printed anything yet but I've been importing the pdf into gimp and shrinking to 50%. Then I bump the contrast up to about 50 and bump the brightness to 25. That seems to optimise the detail. Then I thicken up the outlines (I plan to do a tutorial about that) and then I can put a mix of figures on each page.
I have a busy weekend ahead of me so it will probably be next week before I get back to this, but I'll try to post some pictures then.
I like the Skeletal Skalywags, but I wasn't planning on using any undead this time around.

David, I have an option in my printer setup to print 'borderless'... this seems to take care of the issue you're describing. I have an old HP inkjet if that helps onemonkeybeau

I ave an older HP All-In-One (HP PSC 2410 - a GREAT machine). Where does that option appear? When you click "Print?" Is it on that little pop-up, or do you have to go in and change a setting? This seems like a great option, if I can get it to work. ;D

For this, though, it seems to work well... enough. Quick side-track for interest's sake: International paper sizes (A4 etc) are designed to be proportional, so an A3 cut in half parallel to the short ends will give you a pair of A4s, which have the same ratio of height and width as the original A3 page. The basis is the A0 sheet, which has a surface area of exactly 1 square meter, and that's pretty convenient because in countries using the metric system, all paper weights are measured in grams per square meter, so you can very easily calculate the weight of a single A4 page by dividing the grammage of the paper by 16.
An A4 page, at 297 x 210mm is exactly 17.6mm taller than a Letter, and 5.9mm narrower. A good rule of thumb for designers is to keep the print area of their PDFs at 260 x 190 mm, or 10.2 x 7.5 inches to make sure that nothing gets cut off, regardless of where the end user lives.I ave an older HP All-In-One (HP PSC 2410 - a GREAT machine). Where does that option appear? When you click "Print?" Is it on that little pop-up, or do you have to go in and change a setting? When you're in the print dialogue, click on the Properties button. Under the Features tab, there's a section called "resizing options" and there you will find a pull down for paper sizes, and just below it, a checkbox for Borderless.

Wow, Kev. You know a lot about paper I spent a few years in my early twenties working in the printing industry, and the rest of my time working as a graphic designer and illustrator, so knowing these things came in very handy. I also know a lot about graphic design software, pencils, pens, paints, knives and glue but I don't often see people asking about those things At one stage I was going to suggest starting a "help me learn to do stuff" section, but I see that similar sections already do exist, and don't really have much activity.

OK, my younger sons 10th birthday party was completed this afternoon. Tomorrow I give some stage-fighters their final exam and then there is just a kitchen renovation, two other card projects and a possible favour for Rhannon between me and this half-baked idea.
I will try to test print the figures I've shrunk and post the pictures before I start to design the ships.

I have been experimenting with shrinking Mespers figs. I'm going to start a new thread with a tutorial.
