Got a marketing e-mail through from Avalon Games saying they are having a dollar sale today only to mark their production guru's birthday, so took advantage of it to pick up some of Darkmook's stuff for their Nova Blast game. Not really interested in the rules so didn't really want to pay full whack before. I picked up their Nova Blast Core Rules and Marine Sourcebook (as well as their skeletons set for good measure) - all for less than two quid. FYI - the Core Rules has 12 marines and 15 Too-nia alien bugs, as well as some terrain bits and pieces. The marines look like they should measure up well against One Monk's Terra Force in size and style, but have not printed them off as yet. The Marine Sourcebook duplicates the same 12 marines as the Core book but adds three additional figures with sidearms, as well as terrain (including a drop pod objective marker, communications mast and heavy weapons platform. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the Too-nia - they look like they suffer quite badly from Avalon's dull colour issues - so kinda wish I had just picked up the sourcebook. I would be interested to hear if anyone knows what is in them.

Thanks mahotsukai - don't think I'll bother with the expansions at the mo then. The 2.5D marines in #4 also appeared (admittedly in red armour) in Avalaon's Game Geek #33, which you can download for free from paizo.com anyway.

To be clear: The marines in the Exp 1 aren't duplicates from any other set?
If I want only the minis (and fluff) the Nova Blast Core isn't needed?

Nice. Thanks for the heads up. I got the marines. I'm going to try learning how to recolor with them. I don't want them to be green if they are going to be fighting Terraforce. I also got Astral Empires: Battleshift. I won't be bothering with that one anytime soon, but you cant beat the price.

Hackbarth If you only want minis, source book gives basic marines as identified by migibb. Exp 1 is Company command, and expansion 4 is power armour. The Buggy and Drop ship don't stand up to ebbles or Toposolitario's work. Without any picture of the drop ship I cannot say that much about it, but am going on seeing the parts.

In the issue #30 (free as well at paizo) they are red just like the one mentioned by migibb: Thanks mahotsukai - don't think I'll bother with the expansions at the mo then. I downloaded Game Geek #30 but I don't understand the Marine figures. Where are the extra parts supposed to be stuck on?

Thanks Parduz, but I'm still going to try my own recolors. The free versions look lower rez, and have an awful lot of compression artifacts.

I downloaded Game Geek #30 but I don't understand the Marine figures. Where are the extra parts supposed to be stuck on? I was assuming those extra parts were backpacks - to be folded over and stuck on the back of the figures. GG33 has the power armoue marines with 2.5D arms to add - which I suspect might look a bit hinky, but will give it a try. BTW - I missed those when I was posting last night. Between Game Geek 29 (the gun emplacement) and 30 (the marines) I already had all the marines which are in the sourcebook anyway!!! But I suppose I now have them in green as well as red..... Oh well!

Well, FlockOfThese is right: the figures in GG#29 and #30 are at half resolution (150dpi) while all the green pages and the GG#33 are at 300dpi.

Thank you. I grabbed the Marine Sourcebook and Expansion #1. Totally worth it for the minis.
I already printed the Red marines from the free Game Geeks, but now these are in much better resolution. Already put them on the pile of prints to do the next time I hit a photo kiosk for a bulk discount (I reorder my minis in 4"x6" format photos and print a hundred photos at a time)

So basically the first expansion set was the only one that had minis that I didn't already have in some shape or form and I didn't pick it up.... In the words of the great Homer Simpson.... "D'OH!!!!"
