Hi guys!
I just set up this scene to show the playability of paper mini's to folks who have never used or seen them in "action" before.
I threw this together in just a few minutes. Giving credit where credit is due, the artists and or companies responsible for the items shown are: Dryw the Harper - Imperfect People and Monters, Sirrobo01 - Snowy trees, Snowy Tundra ground tiles and Red Backed Spider, Brave Adventurer's - Dwarf Cannon and Crew, Off Beat Orc - Tall Half-Orc with Great Axe, Jim Hartman (AKA: squirmydad) - High Elf Tower, Dragnoz - Lothorien Guard Towers, Paizo - Castle wall, Towers, Cottages, and Mausoleum, Sundered Skies - Red Dragon, Kev's Lounge - Gelatinous Cube. I know I have omitted some and for that I apologize, as I don't remember the sources for everything. So, if you see something and recognize the work, please add the credit for me.
OK. To the battle! The premise is this: The castle has bee attacked and decimated by the enemy (a troop of frost giants, bugbears and other assorted nasties being controlled by the combined efforts of a red dragon, a storm mage and a Yuan-ti abomination battle mage. They have killed all the soldiers and kidnapped some of the outlying townships citizens (two children in the iron cage on top of the good tower) and two women (standing in front of the frost giant on that same tower.
This is the situation our heroes find upon returning from another adventure. Quickly, Boris the wizard (with his faithful familiar, Cecil the psuedodragon) climbs up the Lothorien Guard towers to better assess the situation, while below, Pandak the cleric duels with the necromancer in the ruined mausoleum, Layla the rouge sneeks up and takes out an orc. Caisaadi the druid (NPC) and Layla's older sister, fights with the giant red spider. Horroar the barbarian and Yarr the dwarf position themselves to take on the gelatinous cube, a bugbear and a frost giant. Still the battle looks hopeless, when, just in the nick of time, a group of local dwarves show up with a cannon to help turn the tide. Boris says to the dwarves below him, "You fire the cannon balls and I will magically guide them to cause the enemy the most damage!"
Layla sees her opportunity to sneak up to the tower and rescue the women and children. But can she make it? And where is Tymo the ranger?
I hope this puts across my point. Please forgive the quality of the pictures, they were taken with a cell phone and from weird angles.
Also, imagine, if you will, how good this scene would look on a homemade 2.5D tile such as you would find at the DM's Craft.
