No paper modelling for Wilda at the moment as I'm a bit too drowsy and shaky to trust myself with sharp implements, - and besides my daughter is doing a major server migration and update which means that my scanner and printer aren't working. Sooooo it's back to messing about with Lego
Some time ago I put together a very nice Elf army which did little except sit on a shelf and gather dust because they lacked for anyone to fight against. Eventually I scratched together a Bad Guys army made up of a mixed bag of Skeletons, three Orcs, a couple of witches, an Ogre and any minifigs I found that had a shady look about them. Not the best army really both in looks and ability and it's a wonder than my Elves could be bothered to go out and fight them at all.
Most of my Elves. After I took this photo I discovered I'd left out a base of Elves armed with swords and some skirmishers.
That's where things pretty much sat until I came across a huge job lot of the old Mega Bloks Dragons sets. After that I didn't lack for dragons, war machines and dark glowering type castles and fortifications with the added benefit that the Knights/Men at Arms from the sets made great Chaos Warriors. Lego Elves don't need much encouragement to go beat up the Forces of Chaos when they're all Mega Bloks minis
My elderly Mum was having increasing problems with Dementia so the minifigs went back on the shelves and in their boxes while I was caring for Mum. Eventually though being a 24hr caregiver got too much for me as my own health wasn't the best and Mum was taken into care. Sad really as I always thought I'd be able to look after Mum until her dying day, but that's life I suppose.
All my Lego (and I have a lot of it) stayed packed away while I re-discovered the joys of paper modelling again, but now it's being brought out into the light of day. Recently I discovered that one of the Chinese Lego clone manufacturers made a range of sets for the Chinese Three Kingdom period. And not long after that I discovered that it was possible to buy the minifigs from the sets separately so I placed an order......
I guess that for Mantic's Kings of War rules I'd play them as 'Kingdoms of Men' and for Warhammer they would be "Cathay' (of course) and for LotR they can be 'Easterlings'.
All this for $US20.00 with free shipping, - of course I bought it.
And five of these Three Kingdoms cavalry minis were a part of the order (Sorry I don't have a working camera at the moment).
Needing some chaps to play as either WHFB Bretonnians or Mantic's Basileans I ordered a small number of these (for research purposes).
Well today was a bit like early Christmas because it all arrived in the post
The Medieval chaps in blue are going to be fine for the job and I will get some more next month when my pocket money budget recovers. Being by a different manufacturer to the Three Kingdoms guys they were already 90% assembled and I had no problems with them. But Oy! the Three Kingdoms guys were all in a million bits inside their plastic bags.
It took me several goes at it before I figured out how the plastic sheet bronze mail for the cavalry guys went together and I managed to tear the first one (it was fixable though). Now I've got all five done I can see it's a clever method and once my scanner is working again I'll copy the template and have a go at making different kinds of plate mail armour. I need to create some shield artwork for them too as all the shields are blank plastic.
I did not get all 26 of the foot soldier guys assembled, - I managed four before I flagged it away. Just too fiddly, but tomorrow's another day.
To my complete surprise the foot soldier guys had parts for some kind of fire spitting war machine in their box. They weren't mentioned on the vendor's website, but I'm not complaining as this little army has suddenly become a much more formidable proposition.
Over the next few days I'll quietly work towards getting my armies sorted out and then I'll put away the remains of the Lego town I was building that my cat devastated. Once I have a clean table top again it will be show time. I'm really looking forward to rolling some dice and being a little general again
