I am trying to picture a way to cut these out and still have them hang together without having a (distracting IMO) white border around them. Maybe I could live with a white border.
I'm not sure a zombie survival game matches so well with this childlike style of mini. For the last couple of days I have gone back to thinking about "Nutcracker vs Mice" a la "The Nutcracker Suit," with the "military objectives" being presents hidden in the Christmas tree. (As I mentioned elsewhere recently, I am usually late with things.) This style of mini might suit that kind of game better.
On the other hand, you probably have some flavour text that ties it all together. You are/were the Oversoul at Oversoul games, right?

My concept is to have a white border on these. I used the color examples above because I thought they would pop more. The game idea is more of a black and white one. I actually never intend on the mins to be precisely cut out just rough cut or even torn...I have gone back and forth on that. Its all suppose to give a crude survivalist, make do, playing in the apocolypse feel to it. And tongue in cheek of course cuz its hard for me to take anything with the word game in it serious.

I think you are right about the colours: it is the multiple colours per figure that makes it look like someone had time and resources but not skill. Although the forms are skillful, I think we might "buy it" if they weren't also colourful.

Its interesting that you mention time resources and skill. If you every get a chance to check out my blog there is other reasons for this project. ONe an easiest is for me as a designer to explore all sorts of avenues that I feel should be present in paper miniature gaming. Two, skill IMO should not be a restraint for would be designers. Someone might not excel at creating minis in the precieved accepted styles but to me regardless of "skill" level adding to grand pool of ideas and concepts is key

If you check out my contributions to the forum, you will see that we agree that a lack of skill should not be a barrier to participation
