I've had this set in my 'wish list' for AGES, but never pulled the trigger because I had no idea what was IN the set, or what it really LOOKED like. I'm excited to see you breathing new life into it. Really a beautiful set of models. I catch my breath with every new photo you post!

Thanks you guys! Great feedback (also that it was not clear what you get). There is also walls and a Gate House (which I am not sure if I will build it now again). It is a model very dear to me and it bothered me that it was kind of dying on OBS with all the broken links and all. Also it never looked as good without the foundations. I also might need to say on OBS that it is not a beginners model. It's not really complicated but I guess beginners could be scared when looking at all the pages. I completed the main hall foundation today and tried to take a picture. It's so huge!!! I am running out of background and had to do digital background extension best I could. Here is a first try. It should be the hero of any feudal Japan gaming table And here is the behind the scenes look. This is a bengal cat, so not a small cat

Oh nooo! It's that dread pirate, the Tiger of Eshnapur! He landed on our shores once again, we're doomed!!! Great models! I can't wait for an opportunity to get my hands on 'em...

I will be doing some set-in-action photos the next days (and probably the next weeks) for promoting the Temple and the upcoming Castle (and maybe some Village houses?).
So if you have or are creating any fitting figures, monsters etc, let me know and maybe I can include them in my promotion if you want.

If that's not too much to ask, could you do a teahouse or an inn and include it in your great set? Like completing the village with a place to go or for travellers to stay?

Thanks for the ideas. The next set I want to do is the Samurai castle. But after that a village set sound like a great idea. I have tried Black Ronins Village set. I like it as a start set but could think one could add some special buildings for an nicer village.

I still think this should be a Series, not a Set.
Gatehouse and Walls for one, the Pagoda for another, and the Temple for a third

Yes, Yes do a village! That way some of us who have oriental armies and such could add some terrain that is not so occidental. . .

There are quite a few Oriental buildings out there on the net, but rarely are they in a proper scale for gaming. And they are usually of specific buildings. For most of us, I think generic is of more use.

I'm afraid the temple was fixed 10 years ago. Nothing I can sensibly do about it now. Maybe when I do a 2.0 version :-) But I have a couple of extensions in mind that could be a series.
About the walls, maybe I can extend those a little for a new thing. Have to do some research there.
I also have some ideas about extending the desert village ... studying oriental architecture books as we speak!

The Foundations are now available on OBS as PWYW! If you get it and like it, please leave a nice comment. The Asian Temple will be done very soon including a price reduction in case it's on your wish list.

I could use this for a market square, or under any of a dozen other buildings/structures!

Yes, shrinking it down to a single platform would make a nice base for a statue. I can see bashing it so that squares contain gardens or put a fountain in the middle and make the squares contain water. All sorts of ideas! I might make a circular path in the middle with a huge flowering tree in the middle, and use some of the textures from The Garden along with my City Streets and Walls kitbashes for that set...
Nicely done!

Agreed, these are certainly multi use. Also the whole thing is just nice work in general. I'm glad that life has permitted you the opportunity to do this again, even if I was previously unaware that you had done it before.

Vermin King: OMG I forgot again to add the link! You must think I am senile or something :-) Thanks again for adding the link!!! I like the idea of kitbashing it for other purposes than the temple. If you build something send me pics or post them here. I also like the garden idea. I am working on grass ground textures. Maybe I should do a texture variation where I fill the blocks on the platform with grass and flowers ...

Starting on the next phase: Samurai Castle reloaded ... and finishing it this time :-) Working on recreating the 3D model to use for the unfolding. Using my old paper model that I have never finished. The idea is to be able to have lots of variations of textures, stacking, ground area (rect or square) and roof stuff. What I don't know yet is how to connect the buildings when I want a complete castle. I have found only a little while googling through the net but if you have some good pics or ideas let me know.

Connect buildings with corridors? You have a standard castle Keep pictured, which is where the Daimyo and house guards would reside. That can be placed on one of your stone foundations, possibly taller ones for better defense. The "castle" is actually the Keep and all the support buildings around it with walls and gates to create switchbacks and defense positions. You could create covered corridors in multiple lengths that would run between the buildings so defenders could move about without being seen and stay protected from missile fire.

So many great ideas. Thanks! Yes, Vermin King , it does help The picture of the complete castle grounds models looks amazing. And all other models they have also help a lot. oldschooldm , the covered walkways could be a great subset that also can be used for the temple, no? Also it reminds me of this restaurant in Donaupark here in Vienna. Now I am hungry squirmydad : Yep, I am also planning to redo the stone walls/foundations for the castle to have that raised effect. Corridors sounds great. I think I have inspiration for all I need and any extension I can think of!!!

I have finished white building the 5 level castle walls! In the process I have decided I have to make this set flat fold. No way I will get permission block the shelves permanently with this :-) But for now I will test build it like this so I have something to work with. I like being able to see it real and then walk around it and think of ways to improve ... I have added the old roof parts just to give an idea what it will look like with them.

Almost done with the basic parts. The big triangle addon roof is missing. For this setup (trying to copy Himeji castle) it will go on the second lowest roof on the front side. The cutout on the roof above is already done. After looking at this I find, I need to make the walls higher. I will increase by 1cm and the the bottom wall by 2cm. Also when comparing to Himeji castle I found that the lowest level and roof was not wider than above but a narrower roof. So I will also make these roof parts for all lengths. With all the castles I have been looking at there are only few configurations I am not able to build with my parts. I will also add versions levels with railings as seen on the top of Osaka castle. I am starting to think this will be a great set for friends of Feudal Japan! Once I am done with the basic parts I will start to tackle the flat fold approach. The walls should not be that difficult but I have no idea yet, how to convert the roof parts. Will the friction hold on the edges or do I need some special part for that?
