My Canon MX922 just stopped feeding paper. Any ideas? I did the documented "do the roller cleaning 3x" and that didn't help. I tried washing off the rollers with a slightly damp rag. I've verified that the rollers are all, well, rolling. It's just not picking up paper - it says the tray is empty. I had an old MX870 that I took the feed roller wheels from and put em on the 922, and that didn't change anything. I put the printer on its side and manually fed the paper in, and it pulled it in and printed a-ok.
Maybe the spring that pulls the feed roller down is just tired and has given up, so it's not being pulled down on the paper hard enough?
My life's problems are really minor. I hate complaining or feeling down, but this is just one in a series of little setbacks piling up that is starting to wear on me.
Any suggestions?

Do you see a lifting mechanism that raises the paper into the feed? If it has one, make sure it's engaging. Or if it has multiple cassettes or an alternate feed path, does that still work?

Spent some quality time with the printer this morning... Here's what I've found... Forgive the stream of useless consciousness - I'm trying to stay sane.
The MX922 has two paper trays, and no rear feed. The top tray is for small photo paper, and the bottom is for Letter/A4/Legal paper. I set up my desk so the printer, with trays removed, is up high enough for me to easily see under it. I can see the rollers that are supposed to pull the paper from the tray, and they spin. When I insert the lower tray in (with or without paper) those rollers do NOT spin.
That's a pretty good clue as to where I should look next.
The tray lifts the mechanism with the rollers on it when inserted. I tried taking the tray out and lifting the mechanism myself. The rollers still spin. There are two spring-loaded clips that I think are there to help lock the tray in place when loaded. If I insert the tray just prior to the clips getting pressed in, I see the rollers spin. If I push just past the point of the clips being pushed in, I don't see the rollers spin.
I tried pressing the clips in by hand without the tray, and the rollers still spin.
OK. Wait a minute... If I have the tray in, the rollers are actually touching some surface. It's tough to hit the "go" button while holding a cell phone flashlight and pressing my glasses up against a tiny crevice, focusing on the wheels... I just glimpsed the fact that the wheels are TRYING to turn. There's a hint of a wiggle, as though there's too much friction, and a belt is slipping or something... I thought this was plastic gears and what not?
Lemme see if I can take this apart a little more...

The immediate crisis is over - I dusted off my old MX870 (the one that had the busted continuous ink system installed in it) and found that it's still in working condition, at least for black-and-white business documents. THAT means my wife is happy for now, and that takes a lot of pressure off of me. I still can't print anything pretty in color.

I've got a MG5721. It's an inexpensive wireless multifunction, but boy howdy does it print nicely. 5 colors (CMYK and PGBK) so not as expensive as a iP6600D for example, and it eats 110lb cardstock just fine. So if you wanted a replacement recommendation, there it is. Plus you can score a set of good quality third party ink at like $7.75 per tank or something from LD Products if you're into refills.
