The theme for this month's HOARD is Sci Fi Encounters This can be any sort of miniature figure or model on the above theme or feel free to submit miniatures off theme. If you submit a figure, they must include both front and rear art, have a proper trimming outline, and include instructions for multi-part models. Recolors and figure mods are encouraged, and even uncolored designs are welcome. No nudity or sexuality, but bloody gory and horrifying is encouraged. If you have questions about how to design your entries, like formats, resolution, and stuff like that, see the HOARD GUIDELINES in this forum category. Entries for the Hoard will be accepted until the last day of March, 2017. My sci fi designs always seem to fail, but my mods and repaints aren't bad, but I need to try to do something for this Does Sci Fi really need a description? Probably not, but what kinds of Alien Planet figures and devices can we come up with? Has anyone done the cyborg harpie? Grignack? How about a Doctor's Daughter clone machine? And don't forget vehicles or prismatic baobab trees. Rachel the Replicant?

I've been hanging on to this one for a while, waiting for the right Hoard to post it in. As I have mentioned, I always try to create my own personal avatar for whatever genre I am working on. And so my Star Trek "me" is long overdue. So, without further ado, I present: Starfleet Coyotepunc

OK, the second Star Trek model for the month. This is my character for a FaceBook roleplaying game game: Lt. Conejo Kruger, who is the Chief Science Officer aboard the NCC-1915 USS Warspite. He is a Tellarite with a fondness for xenobiology, specializing in the marine lifeforms of Earth. The standee has been made from a variety of raw material provided by okumarts and shep as well as a b&w raccoon clipart. I hope to get the back done "soon."

nullpointer Thank you for jumping in and adding to the hoards - very nice figures! Reminds me of the robot guys from the Saga comics (though a little less formal). I'm finally caught up with my hoard assembly responsibilities, so I'm being more proactive with this stuff. If you need resources for properly sized tabs, grab them right here from the hoard production packet -- cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/6113/forum-hoard-production-packetPlease be sure to include a name for the figure and your name (either real, or forum name) for attribution on the tabs.

Yeah, I've read through those recently and was clearly influenced. Thanks for the hoard packet info, I'll remake them and re-post.

Lots of character ... especially for Greys
When they spark the curiosity factor, like the last figure, wondering what the heck he/she/it is looking at, you know you have done a great job

Guess I better start picking out a font for this hoard! That's often the hardest part.

Love it! But why do you get 100dpi? My textures should be 300dpi. Is that from the 3D vaporator model?

Yes, I imported your 3d Vaporator pdf into GIMP and it told me it was 100dpi. I guess (now) that is a GIMP setting or something. Poopy, I don't think I have time to try it again.

When I import to Gimp, 100dpi comes up as the base setting. You just arrow up to 300 dpi, then open

Glad that's what it is. Had a little panic if my model textures were low res ... but even at 100DPI it should look great :-)

And here's another one. Just in case you need some hand-to-hand action in the backdrop of a scene...

nullpointer - the bases look great. Only thing missing is attribution! It wouldn't be the first time minis made it into the hoard with no attribution, but it's good practice to give 'em a name ("Casual Robot" would suffice) on one side of the base, and your name (real or imaginary) on the back. It makes it easier for people to refer to a specific mini, or to give proper attribution if the mini is used somewhere.

Here's my contribution, a Pau'an Jedi. (We know they exist, because the Grand Insquisitor started out as a Jedi before he went to work for Vader.) Here's the dropbox link to the pau'an-jedi.png file. When I started, I was just going to put a new head on one of the samurai from one of the okumarts Serene Fist sets...but one thing led to another, and pretty soon I'd drawn over just about everything. It definitely does still have David's pose, though, and starting it as a mod was a massive time-saver. So, thanks, David! Apologies in advance if I stepped on your toes here. UPDATE:When I finished the figure out, I decided he was a bit taller than he should have been, so I scaled him down about 5%. I updated the links above to point to the revised version, so if you downloaded before the afternoon of March 22, download it again to get the revised version. I also re-did the text, to make it a bit more legible; it's still a bit hard to make out on the printed figure, but that's as good as it gets for free.
