The theme for this month's HOARD is Christmas Wars This can be any sort of miniature figure or model on the above theme or feel free to submit miniatures off theme. If you submit a figure, they must include both front and rear art, have a proper trimming outline, and include instructions for multi-part models. Recolors and figure mods are encouraged, and even uncolored designs are welcome. No nudity or sexuality, but bloody gory and horrifying is encouraged. If you have questions about how to design your entries, like formats, resolution, and stuff like that, see the HOARD GUIDELINES in this forum category. Entries for the Hoard will be accepted until the last day of November, 2017. Ho, Ho, Ho!It's that time of year again when all the good little boys and girls give and get presents. And what better present than mini's and terrain from your fellow forum members? Snow, snowmen, yetis, ice warriors, taun tauns (sp.?), Mrs. Claus, gingerbread, skimmers and sleighs. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good project. As usual, even if it doesn't fit the theme, it may be something that someone wants under their tree. Have fun!

Well, it's already too late to be doing the Holiday Brew Haus that I'd hoped to get done last year, but maybe the augmented sleigh could still happen

I'm pretty sure I'm too busy to tackle the Nutcracker skirmish game I keep dreaming about. But something smaller may inspire me.

Augmented sleigh took a bad turn. But I have a couple new ideas, one of which seems like one of those 'how come no one has done this already?' items

Well, you know I can't do figures worth beans, but what North Pole doesn't have polar bears? I posted both bears, though only one is for the Hoard. I wanted to do the 'posturing' bear, but I can't wrap my head around it. What would the back look like? The colors do not lend themselves to adjustment. If anyone wants to give it a shot, or improve the back on the other bear, feel free to give it a go

Oh, boy, forgot that I was working with a 25 pixel grid instead of 75. Oops
I need to enhance the texture on the barricade and enlarge it, but it doesn't look too bad and I thought this was one of those things that would be around any snowy battle zone
Crud, the photo doesn't show, and PostImage is giving me a bad gateway message now ...
Third times a charm

I wanted to do the 'posturing' bear, but I can't wrap my head around it. What would the back look like? It would look like a big bear bum with a little bit of nose and maybe an eye showing above the shoulder. I might give it a go before the end of the month. Depends on how things go (but the fact that I am here now shows I am already procrastinating on something else.)

where are the winged reindeer from?

tektonten.blogspot.com/2010/12/winged-reindeer-christmas-ornament.htmlI re-sized them to six to a page and got rid of the ornament hooks. Also printed mirrored on the back. One of them now has a red nose EDIT -- I didn't find any great side images of reindeer. This was more of an experiment. I was thinking of doing reindeer in the same style as the dinos last year. My thought was to do winged reindeer, but in two or three pieces ( the two sides with the wings and antlers folding outward, with an optional upper wing piece as the connector, also gluing along the head, neck and back). Not finding an image that I thought would work, I played with these. Very fiddly, even after I did some modifications. But they look good

Okay, I'm not going to do a two-headed angry bear, but I might see about doing a version of the bear mini with the other bear's head. hmmm Re-sized and sharpened the colors on the barricade. Not sure if it is enough on the color, but it's supposed to be blocks of snow/ice, so I don't think I should go too far .

I like your bears. And I have had the same experience with looking for reigndeer images. I wanted to do winged reigndeer and use wire reigns traces so they could be pulling a sleigh that had just the back of one runner leaving the table as a centerpiece. Maybe next year?

I'm still not happy with the back of the new bear's head ...
A case of needing to step away and look with fresh eyes tomorrow

Another hoard, another chance I guess. Vermin King I like these bears! Only thing about (I assume) the bottom one is that the back of the head is a tad too light I would say. Still within the realm of plausible, though. I still have my small idea, and I wonder... I think I just had an idea how to make it christmas-y, and maybe arm it to fit the theme.

The fur around the top and sides of his head is smooth and almost white, so I carried it over to the back. Then I sampled a slightly darker shade from the side of his head and changed the color. Still looking too white, I sampled a darker shade from his neck and airbrushed. I think it looks good on the table, though I agree that it looks too light on the file
I haven't figured out what I don't like about the top bear's head in back, probably that the hair isn't smooth, but wild animals often raise hackles on the back of their necks when angry, so I'm not sure. I'll probably either airbrush or blur it a bit

I'm actually surprised no one threw a santa hat on one of my dinos last year. They feel slighted

Much happier with the back of the angry bear's head now, and did a final tweak of the ice barrier Oops. Was building the ice barrier after lunch, and part of the model didn't enlarge well. Just need to tweak the length of a section to make things fit well. Always test build Fixed

If anyone is looking for ideas, we have a definite shortage of Arctic animals. I thought about doing an arctic wolf. I'd thought about doing reindeer, but grendelsmother64's reindeer from a few years back are wonderful. My walrus looked more like a vampire Jabba the Hutt, so I deleted it

I am still stuck on mine. Tried to redesign it a bit, ran into some sketchup problems and did not find the time to do a new testbuild... We will see how long I have to drag this idea along...
I also second the vampire-hutt.

Maybe I shouldn't have deleted Count Jabba the Walrus. I have a tendency to delete things that are going in the wrong direction

Nice job on the bears - and the snowwall was a welcome addition as well. Thanks Vermin King!

A quick "upgrade" for Christmas... If you use the extra bits, then the front panel goes on first, with the arm & gun over the top.

I was thinking of doing a similar 'upgrade' to last year's velociraptor and pteranadon I tend to think that the blue variant of velociraptors would do better in the Arctic

cowboyleland: I love it! Prechten are such a cool addition to any winter landscape, and I can see them being versatile monster minis in general.
