It did come out pretty good. The original idea of just retexturing just wasn't good enough. There were too many elements that were just plain wrong. Not as noticeable at 1/160, but at 1/56, they were glaring errors, so I started tinkering. When I was putting the files together, I did a comparison to the original parts, and the shape of the main hut wall is roughly the same, but tweaked to be more upright, an allowance for the new chimney, etc. But there isn't anything that is just enlarged and repainted. Even the front columns are thicker. Parts layout is about the same, except for totally new parts, but those are grouped by the old part number.
But I can't call it a new model. Everything there is either a tweak or redesign of the original parts. I think I can be proud of it. It looks like it would be a much more difficult model than it is. And even though it is Hagrid's Hut, it could easily be a hermit's hut in the forest, or several together could be a Neolithic or early Bronze Age village. I thank you for the compliments, though. You do excellent work and praise from you and other real designers means a lot to me

Great work. So, are you going to do Hogwarts Castle in 28mm for next year's Papercuts?

uh, no
However, I collected images of the later version of Hagrid's Hut, and may do up the second one some time. I still haven't worked out how I want to do the connection between the two parts, but leaning towards doing a rectangular tube that fits into rectangular holes in each section. A very forgiving way to handle it for builders that aren't very exact in their cutting and folding. As I mentioned above, I think this would be great for a woodman's or hermit's hut, or could be used in a village. Having a second version to add a little variety to the village only makes sense

So maybe you could just do an interior for this version instead?

That wouldn't be hard, if you didn't want it to be accurate. Not sure what 'accurate' would be. They worked out the interior and then made two versions, 1/3 smaller for scenes showing Hagrid and 1/3 larger for scenes with the Potter Gang. This was lost between the first and second films, so they did it all over again. And they probably didn't even make interior sets until they decided it would be helpful. During the scene where Norbert hatched, there is an odd arrangement in the stonework behind Harry that isn't in the next shot showing him. That makes me think that the two scenes were not filmed in the same sitting. But a generic interior with Hagrid's fireplace/hearth probably wouldn't be difficult. The better shots of it are in the later movies, and the Universal Studios settings, and they are all different. I don't know how I could insert it now, and I really don't feel like building a third one If someone wants to volunteer to build one, I would be more inclined to do an interior... EDIT-- I'm thinking this isn't the place for this discussion. I'll share my thoughts on a Deluxe Hagrid Hut in the thread, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/9121/hagrids-hut-movies-ii

This is perfect for imaging to drink a cup of tea and eat a few stone cookies with Hagrid. It is really awesome.
