I don't know how many of the buggies anyone has made, but I have a notion that I want to simplify the build, and I have a few ideas towards that end.
If you have made one of these, you will have noticed that the inner and outer side parts give a lot of solidity to the build and allows for inner texturing. Early on, I tried to just do fold-overs for the parts below the body, but that resulted in a stress point/line immediately at the top of the line. Adding the protruding tires helps, but not everyone wants 3d wheels. So, I came up with this method.
I want to keep the chassis underneath, but the tab arrangement is to say the least awkward. I know that in paper terrain, the concept of Glue Strips is something rare, but I think it is the best way to handle the chassis part. A good illustration of how to do this would be important, maybe necessary.
I am thinking another test build will be in order for that change.
If all goes as imagined, the build will be simplified and then I can proceed to the elaborate version. On the test build, I think I need to decide on a color. I could do the white one, or a military drab, or (after seeing the Toyota truck commercials repeatedly) maybe a bright orange.
I may even go back to the more square front end of Wasteland Buggy 1, and do a short-wheelbase version

sooooooo.... I did this...
Edit: I fixed a couple places that I left untextured, and added a couple more.

That is gorgeous, sir.
Still playing with getting the chassis part easier to install, and how to mark on the template the areas that need cut out before the fold-overs.

What do you think about a bed liner?

I like the idea and had planned on adding one, after I finalized the model. You beat me to it. Thanks

ignatious I, for one, REALLY appreciate the one with the pink camoflage. Of all of my terrain sets, the Pink Fuffy World is my favorite. I always appreciate stuff that will fit in there nicely.

Punkrabbitt I hope you didn't grab it. I realized I screwed up somewhere in the import to gimp, so they are too small. I'm in the process of fixing that and will repost them.

ignatious, when you import, you have to adjust to 300 dpi. I have yet to figure out a way to have 300 dpi as the default

When I open the png in gimp there is no dialog box it just opens. Also when I check it says it is 300 dpi.

ignatious , when you import, you have to adjust to 300 dpi. I have yet to figure out a way to have 300 dpi as the default I have figured that out on a couple of versions of GIMP, but to be honest, I don't even have GIMP installed on this computer yet, let alone remember how to actually do anything with it. It's been a very long dry spell for me...

Thank you so very much, sir. But you know... when I get the easier chassis attachment version finally done, you will have to do that, too.
And the short buggy truck.
But this is my 'no time for sleep even' part of the year, so you will probably have a bit of time

Mighty nice, sir EDIT -- Mr. ignatious , sir, you have created so many variants, I am not sure which I want to build. They are so beautiful. Maybe I should just come up with blank vehicles and let you customize them.

Has it really been this long? I had the odd idea of doing my 'easier chassis assembly' version about the same time as wanting to do different wheels, but I did not want to build a version of something I had already done, so I had started doing a General Lee homage. Finally got it done after church this AM. I have a few things that have to be done this afternoon, but I hope to have time to build it tonight

And almost a month later ... This is my first test of the join-strip connection for the chassis part, but it looks like it will work well. Sometimes I just do a fiddly-bit without realizing how fiddly it is. Those little tabs that the inner tailgate glue to don't need to be that small. After church I will go back and make an adjustment to those and finish the build EDIT -- And if you don't need a truck that is flipped over, you can skip the join strip and chassis. No one says you have to put the chunky tires on it either.

Some creative plagiarism later... The hood came from AirDave's first General Lee. The numbers from a photo. Front and Tail from Mike Daw's General Lee EDIT -- BTW, the door handles are non-functional

Should have finished this up earlier, but I have come to hate the tedium of traditional wheels. AirDave of Koolwheelz fame came up with his own unique method of doing wheels that is so much easier with less chance of error. After talking to a couple folks about converting some of my vehicles to this type of wheel, that is what I am going to do. Probably easiest just to show how it is done Each tire has an inner and outer tread piece. It helps to give them a little curl first (and of course edge the outer tread). Glue an end of the outer tread to the line on the inner tread, curl into a circle, and glue the other end of the outer tread to the other side of the line abutting the other end. Then it is easy to glue the tire face to the treads. Solid, round, and little chance of having a wonky glue tab resulting in an awkward white spot or a tread that isn't as round as one would like. I'm going to make the change on some of my blank vehicles and see what ignatious can do with them. BTW, on his tire piles for the Mauther warehouse, he used this method When I get those done, I'm going to get the short-cab version of the buggy truck done

Laying out pages and trying not to miss something is taking longer than anticipated Down to the chassis plate parts on Wasteland 2, then I am going to get Wasteland 1 finished before moving on to Wasteland 1 Truck

I just made my first layered pdf. Kind of a pain. Export each layer from gimp, import to inkscape, export as svg, into scribus as layers, and then export as layered pdf. At least I figured out how to do it. Anyway as a test here are the pink wasteland trucks, so let me know if this worked. pink trucks.pdf

Here is a pdf with the wasteland truck. It's a layered pdf with something like 20 skins, options for bullet holes, scratches, broken glass, and more. There 's even a layer to add the snorkel. wasteland truck
