Halloween is coming soon and the dark half of the year is starting to make its appearance (on the northern hemisphere at least) so I have decided to start a graveyard map.
I have created some toned down, bleached, fall leaves covered ground tiles ...
... and put them together forming this map.
It's my largest map so far. 5x6 squares of 6" tiles, so 36x30" in size.
Next I need to make some gravestones, a mausoleum for the center and then a fence around it! And build lots of ghosts, vampires and zombies :-)

This looks great, so far. It really makes my imagination jump, already...

I have started creating headstones for the graves. Here's a little overview of the options! They will go together like paper minis in the easy version. So just glue front and back together and put them into a base. I will make special "graveyard" bases for this event!

Perhaps graveyard bases that look like a grave so the headstone slips in at one end?

Perhaps graveyard bases that look like a grave so the headstone slips in at one end? Yes, exactly what I had in mind. A special version of bases just for this occasion. Maybe with grass and dirt option ...

Here's a look at the grave bases!
If you want more mass with the headstones, just double them up. I have also made an adjusted base version for them.
Here are a couple of graves to see how they look on a test tile.
Now I have to build a lot of graves for my map :-)
And next I will start to work on the mausoleum/crypt entrance building.

Some progress made with the mausoleum. Not weathered yet but the build went fine.
The corner plinths of the platform are optional. Too make them a little more interesting I added this ornament part mimicking the top roof pointy decorations.
Have to see if I can make some things to put up on there. Maybe a vase or a gargoyle ...

I was getting the mausoleum ready for release and now it's done! You can find the DELUXE edition on my Gumroad. There will be a BASIC edition on OBS later but I first want to finish the fences too as some are waiting to get started building before Halloween!

And the next step is released. The fences are available as the DELUXE version on my Gumroad. Now I can start building my map :-)

While I am setting up the BASIC version for the OBS stores, I am making some pics and having fun with the new setup I call this one "After the caretaker leaves ..."

Working on a hearse wagon for the graveyard...
I want to make the undercarriage a separate module so you can switch out different version of the top part easily. Also I want to make different levels of difficulty.
Here is the very simple texture box version.
This one is not much harder to build but will look more realistic (esp when you double up the wheels and give them some thickness, nothing more sad than flat, thin wheel discs IMHO)
And finally I am working on an advanced 3d version where I recreate the "real" spring/axle.
Also I will make adapted versions of the advanced wheel I create for the hand wagon. So you will have two new wheel sizes available for kitbashing!

Omigosh! Very nice concept. I agree with you on wheels making a huge difference in appearance. I am afraid on the medium difficulty version, though. I stopped using the flat axles, because over time, the wheels want to stick out at all the wrong angles. I wonder if a simple wheel hub piece could slide over the axle and keep the wheels aligned. That advanced version has me drooling all over the laptop. I can just imagine some of my coaches, carriages and wagons sitting on that frame. You have outdone yourself, sir The top photo reminds me that you may want to consider designing a wagon team base similar to my mod of bravesirkevin 's base to allow two draft animals to be side-by-side. cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/post/94967/threadI really like the shot with the front wheels off

There should be ways to make the medium version stable, but I get it. Like this the wheels are a flight risk :-)
I know a lot of beginners will probably shy away from the advanced version, but I think it will not be very hard to build. The biggest challenge will be that you need to make sure the springs are of a size/lenght/height so that the wagon will appear horizontal and not slanted down or up.
I am trying to get some paper mini makers to make some pulling horses. Will make special bases for them too!

Regarding the wheels, I see it more of a problem over time. The older the build, the more it wants to do its own thing. While it is fresh, the wheels may go out of alignment, but they stay where you put them for a longer time. As the build gets older, it resists being put into alignment, and more quickly shifts back to the angle it wants.
If you are contacting folks about draft horses, maybe you could check into oxen or mules, too. The subject of oxen has come up multiple times here, without much success

You could perhaps attach the wheels to the medium version with a slotted locking system. This way, the wheels could be detached for storage, keeping them and the coach axles in perfect shape...

Modified bravesirkevin bases! Genius! That totally removes the 'wonky over time' factor Darn it, now I want to go back and try that approach on some of my other models I haven't heard much comment on the texture-box simple version, but I think it is a concept that has a lot of merit. Especially for gamers. I don't think most builders would end up with a successful fold-flat bench, but the base can be fold-flat, as can many of the working parts

That totally removes the 'wonky over time' factor Darn it, now I want to go back and try that approach on some of my other models That would work, too, but I actually had a different approach in mind... I thought to cut the end of the axles into down-facing hooks and slot the wheels. You then slide the wheels onto the hooks, and gravity (pulling down the coach) keeps them in place. I'd also thicken the wheel by adding a core of corrugated cardboard or foamcore. However, I might be overthinking this.

So the simple box version looks like this. Very easy and fast to build!
And the medium version sounds like what you guys suggested but just without tab to slot them in. I just glued them on . If you want, you can try some fold-flatting magic but I didn't go that far. I doubled up the wheels onto the simple flat side parts so they get to have some nice thickness!
The horses are loaned by Kevin!

lightning, those are absolutely fantastic. I might have to steal your simple version idea to make EZ Bild versions of some of my wagons and carts. Bless you and yours to a thousand generations. Now before he asks, Punkrabbitt likes to flip things on their side. What does the second version look like underneath?

Now before he asks, Punkrabbitt likes to flip things on their side. What does the second version look like underneath? It's not stealing but taking inspiration! Go ahead I have learnt one or two things by watching your build threads, so time for payback
I have two texture versions for the framework with correctly adjusted shadows for the overlay part! My build is a mix of texture and black as I have not bothered to glue the wheel texture on to the back but rather just paint it black. But all the parts are there if you want to go crazy!

And your build threads have often inspired me. Remember when you where doing the Mos Eisly diorama? That ended in me doing the Homestead!

The old computer died, but in the Mos Eisley thread, I was able to download most of what I was missing on this computer, and I had both versions of your dome structure in your file outside of the One Monk folder (Actually, I should combine the folders 'PaperModels AT', 'PapierSchnitzel', and 'Lightning Chris'. But at this point, you are the only one on this computer that I have intentionally set up three folders on. They are all you, but they are different, too.

Here's the advanced 3D undercarriage with springs and all. Again I am using the framework level so that I can detach the wheels from the upper wagon.
Now I have to start adding some details to the wagon, so it becomes a little more than just a box!
