Well, I have to be in Tulsa by 12:30 Wednesday, and of course we have freezing rain and snow coming in tomorrow night. Not going to be able to work on this tomorrow night because I will have to go there early to beat the weather. Let's see how much I can get done tonight. Here are the standees -- three each of the Anoplotherium, the Leptotherium and the Paleotherium Now back to the tent models -- Megatherium, Lophiodon, Deinotherium, and Mastodon

Well, in the course of phone calls trying to decide on whether to leave a day early or not, my computer battery died and I lost my work on the mammoth. I think I should be able to get it done over lunch, though. Still not sure if I need to leave tonight or by 6:30 in the morning... After my success on doing the Leptotherium opposite side (instead of mirroring), I am going to try attempting having a non-mirrored opposite side on the mammoth, which will mean a bit of trial and error on slots for the base. I also did not want to have the tusks flat against the trunk, so they will glue onto the head separately and spread out. Here's where I got to this AM. Also, the ears are fold-overs, so they can stick out a bit EDIT -- Productive lunch

Between calls, I did set up some of the other beasts to possibly work on tomorrow morning. I probably should do the Lophiodon as a standee, but I think I can do it 2.5d and squeeze it onto one of the other pages

Back from Tulsa and it is snowing. Good timing there. Not much time for anything during the trip, but I did very little prep work on the Megatherium. I think I need to build the mammoth to test my method for doing separate sides on these. Only I need to add the tabs. Once I build it, I will be able to see where the base slots need to be. But too tired tonight. Funny thing. When I was younger, I used to drive to Chicago for the weekend, and now a little four-hour drive wipes me out. Well, two of them in a 48-hour stretch

Well, I think I'd better start building some of these tonight Like the mammoth, I won't be able to judge the base slot positions until I have built it. This is a bit different than some of my previous tent builds in that the tail goes inside the body instead of outside. And yes, it got its name because it is huge

Well, I got the Lophiodon done tonight (except for the base slots) Not sure why I am doing these, except that there was a list, so I did a set. I don't mind leaving out the Deinotherium, since its mentioned in the book only because they found a tooth. Maybe squirmydad's idea of Hunters/Gatherers could use some of these. Or maybe someone will have a lost world game or something, but they've been fun to work on

The fold-flat mammals are glued and drying under books, and the Lophiodon is printed out. I might start doing some scoring while the others are drying. I'm also going to have to make up some more bases.
I'll probably break these up for photos. Dinos and Mammals/Explorers.
I really should go back to my Re-Wilding Europe beasties. It's a shame that the work I did on the Aurochs is gone and has to be re-done. Aurochs, Wisent and the primitive wild horses would probably be of more use to Fantasy gamers
EDIT -- Oh, yeah, that Megatherium is appropriately scaled. They definitely earned the use of 'Mega' in the name

I'm sorry to say that even though I started working on my book box design, I will not be able to finish it for this hoard. Work and RL simply leave me almost no time to create anything, and time chose to fly again. It took all of the just past weekend to build the back house and courtyard of the Casa Rosata. Half of the staircase is finished, too, but the waterfront main building, the other half of the stairs, and the small well are yet to be finished. So, given that the PDF for the Casa Rosata should have already been done last year (and is almost finished), I will first put that project to an end and then continue working on the book box. I will release it later this year, as soon as it is done. I'm very sorry...

Darn. It's looking like this is going to be the Journey to the Center of the Earth Hoard.
Any other projects working?
I built the standee animals last night. Need to take photos. If my contributions are going to be all, I should probably knock out the Glyptodon and Deinonichus. That would cover all the identified prehistoric non-marine animals in the book. I know it was done earlier, but should I add the pteranodon? That would leave the large bird that isn't identified.

I've got to make a bunch more bases... I am not going to mark the slots in the tent-beastie bases. I will need to add a line to 'cut slots in the bases to result in a natural pose or edge in green and glue to the top of the base'. On the Lophiodons, one just really would not fit where the slots were in the other two. As the dinos really aren't in the book, I think it would be better if they were just part of VK's Dino Collection. Probably ought to do a new thread on that tonight.

In some of the "Lost World" genre of stories the closer you got to the center of the lost world region the farther back in time you seemed to go. All of those prehistoric mammals you posted would be at the outer edge of the region and the dino's would be farther in. So they both work for this Hoard.

Yeah, but I worked a bit more on the Deinotherium over lunch. It would be a good Hoard even with only the book creatures and the explorers, and it would be truly Verne. There is a poetic symmetry in keeping it fairly pure. After all, it is the Verne Hoard.
Like I said above, tonight I will start working on a VK's Dino thread. They will still be available. They just wouldn't be in the Verne Hoard

Hmmm, the last time I read the Voyage to the Center of the Earth, I was a young teen. I had an audioplay, though, and I'm pretty sure to remember that their Finnish/Icelandic/whatever guide found toothmarks of a dino on his icepick... I could be wrong, though...

Trying to catch a cold ... Again. Didn't get much done tonight on the Deinotherium Remember when I did that little Smurf set? I'm planning on using the roof of a Smurf house for the Glyptodon shell. They would work well because they had a circular former inside to which I can glue the head, tail and legs, scalloping the shell where they will stick out. Getting close to the end of the month, though, so it might have to wait

Almost done, more Robida than Verne, but without Verne I wouldn't have been introduced to Robida. The Scarecrow British cavalry should also be able to ride these.

Trying to figure out the best way to texture the Glyptodon. All those little plates won't align well for me and the pattern is different around the head. Maybe I should call this good, or I could move on to the Argentavus Magnificens as a stand in for the mystery bird. Or I could go back to the Spinner. Or ...

Here's an aether ship combining the ideas of Verne and Wells. Boy were the Martians surprised when they tried to invade a few decades later.

squirmydad, I think you are giving me credit for Scarecrows work (which I might have done backs for) but when I downloaded to check the pdf called "scarecrow 1889 exploreres" wouldn't open because it was "damaged." I tried it twice, don't know if the problem is my end our yours. Just thought you should know.
