I know I am throwing up a hail mary here, but I have been struggling to get some help from the people at Silhouette America, and I figured maybe someone else online had bought some of the stuff WorldWorks Games made a few years back.
Its high quality stuff, I love it. But, the cut files are off. I have tried adjusting it with absolute measurements in inches, and I can get the y value right, but never the x.
The problem seems to be that my Portrait never finds the registration marks. It uses the old style, just two lines, rather than a black square. So, I tried just filling them in to make a square, but my Portrait still never finds them. I was able to make it work one time, but it was with a black and white file, I have never been able to make it work in color.
Has anyone else ever used the cut files from WorldWorks? I am pulling my hair out here, I have all this time to craft, and so many cool things to build, but I cant get my equipment to work properly!

We can probably help -
There are a lot of variables in your problem: What cutter, what version of Studio - and do cut files you make yourself work properly?
Please post a sample cutfile and image that you're trying to cut for us.
If the registration points are too close to the edge, sometimes feeding the page a bit left/right shifted can help.
Also, different regmark patterns want the page fed "upside down"/inverted compared to other cut files (usually done so the company can print their logo in otherwise "banned" areas.
Those are common problems.
Oh yeah, Silhouette customer support will never be helpful. Forums like this and YouTube are your best resources.
--
What a lot of us do with older models/cutfiles is print them from within Studio itself, because that means the software that made the regmarks, reads the regmarks. This often means creating white-no-cut-boxes to cover the original regmarks...

My machine is a Silhouette Portrait 2. Like an idiot I upgraded the Studio version (4.4.090ss), and now it wont even let me select old style registration marks. I couldnt attach a cutfile, so I took a screen shot of one and attached that.

Well, just you saying something to me was all it took. When you said print from Silhouette, I decided to try and make merge work. I hadnt been able to do it before because it wont open a pdf. So I took a screenshot of the pdf and pasted it in to the cut file with merge. Then I adjusted the size so it was in proper scale and voila! Worked the first time.
Its fixed! You are my hero.

Now we want to see photos of your builds. Do you use these for gaming? What games?

I printed the motorcycles because my girlfriend wanted to make them, but the ones we are working with most are the old west stuff. I have a bunch of Whitewash City, and also a lot of Deadfall from WorldWorks. So far out quality is low because we are beginners, but I am confident it will improve.
As for what games, I hope to use the old west stuff for the RPG I am designing which is called The West That Wasnt. Once we get more of this stuff built I will take some pics and let you see. Just dont expect masterpieces...haha

Masterpieces are a combination of skill and luck. Skill only comes with practice.
Now that you have the cutter figured out, will you be able to do your own cutfiles for things? I still want to come back to doing more old west stuff, but I don't have a cutter, and I enjoy the cutting by hand, but should you want to use any of my projects, and do the cutfiles, I can help you out on some things you can't find, I imagine

The Toppi Saloon could use them, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/10008/toppi-saloon-kitbashIf I can ever get out of lock-down and self-quarantine, I hope that I can get my old computer to the IT guy and see if he can recover my Wild Wild West material, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/8281/wild-west-projectPike Funeral Home would fit in, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/9077/pike-funeral-home , or one of the offshoots of that project, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/9192/haunted-house-hoard . I like the Industrialist House (well, maybe a cattle baron's house) and who doesn't need a Haunted House. And the circus can always come to town, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/9400/circus-hoardI lost all my work on the Lincoln funeral train, but maybe the IT guy can work a miracle. But seriously, I would like to come back and do some more Toppi kitbashes. Those buildings and figures (sorry, no backs) have so much character. As I have no plans to use a cutter, I don't know anything about creating files, but there is a lot of info in cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/board/23/craft-robo-silhouette-automated-cutters

tunglashr I run a Patreon where I make cutfiles, so if you're interested in GETTING cutfiles on a regular basis, please check me out. (patreon.com/paperrealms) That's it for my shameless plug. If you're interested in learning some basics about MAKING cutfiles, definitely there are great tutorials on youtube. Like any new tool, Silhouette Studio has it's quirks and takes some getting familiar with all the features and functions. You can get by with the free version of the software. That's all I've used for years. I find the process of making cutfiles for buildings and terrain VERY different than making cutfiles for paper minis. I've done streams in the past while making cutfiles so people can watch the process and ask questions. They're... how should I put this without embarrassing myself... the streams are "lightly attended". lol Anyway, if you have specific questions, I'm happy to try to help, and if you think watching me make some cutfiles in real time would help too, I can try to schedule that.

Chris Roe made a 'patch kit' you can find on his site (http://www.genetmodels.com/fun-stuff/) to make the squares to cover up the old reg marks. I've never used the patch kit - I always import art from PDFs into Silhouette Studio and print from there. Wouldn't trust the cutlines to be perfect otherwise. Check out his site, too, for some AMAZING models.
A quick trick with Acrobat Reader - in the preferences, make their screen capture tool 300 dpi. Then, scale the view of the page you want to copy so that it fits the screen. From the edit menu, select Take a Screenshot (or something like that) and then just click once on the page image. The whole page will flash, and it's copied to the clipboard. Now you can paste right into the cutfile. Select the image, scale it to 8.5x11 (or whatever the original page size was - you can see that in Acrobat by looking at File > Properties). Now you've got it in the right scale. Ctrl+Shift+[ with the image selected moves it to behind the cutlines so you can see em. Now you can erase the old reg marks and print. Once you know the process, it takes seconds.

I have a printed adhesive sheet of these little black squares. Back before I had a continuous ink printer, I used a few. They worked OK. Honestly, I almost NEVER print directly from a PDF anymore for cutting. I have access to Adobe Acrobat (full version) that saves to bitmap files - I use that and often replace any existing regmarks when printing through Studio. It's all Silhouette's fault by changing the regmark standard mid-stream. :-P

Wow, you guys have given me a lot of great advice. I really appreciate it. What I have been doing is just taking a screen capture and then manually scaling it to fit. I find if it is off, then it wont find the registration marks. So far, I have only been off once, though. Knock on paper.
One thing I am surprised at is how bad the instructions are for the WorldWorks Games stuff. How the hell am I supposed to do the anchors? I can figure out some, but not all, of them.
Other than that, its been a heck of a lot of fun. My girlfriend and I spend 1-2 evenings a week on it, and I wouldnt mind doing a little more. The hardest part is cutting the foam core to put inside the floor tiles. Other than that most of it is pretty simple. Its a kind of peaceful mind-numbing work.

What do you mean by cycles? What are repaints?

The Mayhem Traffic motorcycles above
Repaints are when you modify the textures of an existing model

We have not done those, since I am working on my old west themed RPG we have been exclusively doing old west buildings. I just used the cycles as a test because they are so intricate of cuts it was a good challenge for the cutter.
No, I have not modified any models, but I have thought about doing it on some. I have some ok photoshop skills so eventually I am sure I will do it.

I'll echo the printing from Silhouette Studio, that's the only way I'll print something anymore that I plan on putting through the cutter, it has saved me many times by allowing me to make sure everything lines up and then for files with the old Reg marks I can just erase them in Studio and apply the new ones. I actually bought the Designer edition I believe it is of the software just so I could drag and drop/import PDF files just for ease and speeding things up.
