Hi, a few of us publishers on DriveThru/RPGNow/Wargame Vault have been asking each other about donating existing products to a temporary charity bundle to raise money for relief work in Nepal. I know Kabuki Kaiser was putting together a bundle along a specific RPG theme, but Ryan of Brave Adventures was suggesting that we set up a papercraft bundle - i.e. the stuff Card Warriors members are really good at, printable minis, scenery etc. We're still working out who can host it, and which charities the OBS sites can link with which are working in that area.
I'm submitting my Crypts pack to any charity bundles going at the moment and might add a little something else.
Anyone else interested? I wouldn't be surprised if we see quite a few new bundles and products on the charities page as the next few days go by, Bundles are always great fun because the trick seems to be to totally outweigh the value of the donation, be it $15 or $25 and hopefully with a mix of products so that there's always a few gems in that lucky dip.
Does anyone else think this would be a good idea and want to donate some products (easiest when they are already up on the OBS site) ?
Thanks for reading,

We are going to contribute our Sisters of The Blade and Monster sets.
I've already contacted OBS about setting up the Bundle, so we can host if no one else wants to.
Who else is onboard?

Absolutely! I need to figure out what would be appropriate for Nepal, my nephew was just there a few months ago.

Thanks Squirmydad! I've decided I'm going to throw in my Rustic Timber Blocks as well, because they are more obviously things one can cut up and actually assemble in a "papercraft" way. We'll probably be still getting things together for a day or so before anything goes live. Not to mention setting a time period in length for it to run. Brave Adventures and I are still finding our feet when it comes to hosting bundles, so if anyone wants to volunteer to host the bundle, i.e. if you're confident with OBS's systems, feel free to speak up.

Brave Adventures and I are still finding our feet when it comes to hosting bundles, so if anyone wants to volunteer to host the bundle, i.e. if you're confident with OBS's systems, feel free to speak up. Meredith from OBS has sent me instructions and I have started to create a Charity Bundle. To add your product to the Charity Bundle use this Bundle info: (Edit: Info Removed) I was going to send this info by PM, but I don't think there is actually any harm in making it public. All it does it let someone add a product to the charity bundle. Once we know everything that is being included, we can decide a bundle price. Meredith says 1 product on the host account needs to be set to the Bundle price for a charity bundle and everything else should be set to $0. Then when the bundle is purchased OBS keeps 5% for payment processing fees and 95% goes to the charity. I think we can choose specifically which charity to donate to. BilliamBabble Inked Adventures has suggested www.dec.org.uk and the default OBS charities are Doctors without Borders and Red Cross. What does everyone else think? Here is a list of the contributions, so far. I will update it as people add things: Sisters of the Blade (Brave Adventures) Monster Set (Brave Adventures) Rustic Timber Blocks (Inked Adventures) Foot Knights of Camelot (Mayhem in Paper) Sampans #2 (Mayhem in Paper) Lord Hamilton's Steam Ram (Mayhem in Paper) Chimera Hybrid Cannoneer (Mayhem in Paper) What should the time-frame for the bundle be? I added Foot Knights of Camelot, Sampans #2, Lord Hamilton's Steam Ram, and the Chimera Hybrid Cannoneer. I think a 2-3 week limit for the bundle will encourage urgency in purchases so the Nepalese receive their relief now instead of eventually. Thanks for getting this rolling guys.

Wow that's great old squirmydad! So, how about we launch on Saturday May 2nd, Tokyo time, and end on Saturday May 16? Would that be alright with everyone? Ryan

So, how about we launch on Saturday May 2nd, Tokyo time, and end on Saturday May 16? Just a thought, but Saturday May 2 is also Free Comic Book Day. Appreciating time's very short, but is there maybe a way to link with that somehow for more publicity for this charity bundle? (Thinking of the number of comic book hero paper minis already available, as well as things like the current Okumarts KS, for instance).

Excellent, the Bundle lives! Nice one, Brave Adventures! Added: Crypts, Tombs, Catacombs (which is a bit of a big deal for Inked Adventures - one of our higher priced products ) Rustic Timber Blocks and both heroically sized furniture counters packs Good idea about Comic Book Day, but I personally wouldn't worry too much about linking special days/events to the bundle considering the ongoing nature of what's happening in Nepal, also we might want to run it for a few weeks ongoing (I'm guessing) Hey, I'm loving the look of that steam tank btw. Edit: Steam RAM !

Should we also send proceeds to Care? Do you want to extend the sale to May 23 or keep the deadline at May 16? Ryan

Hi there everyone, I would like to participate to the bundle you are setting up with some of my products, if possible. I'm not sure I understood how to do that, though. Could you please help me out in my noobness? Welcome aboard Nemo! From the Publisher dashboard go to Manage Bundles under Title Management. From there you can add products to the Bundle using the info mentioned above. Let me know if you have any trouble! Ryan

Thanks Brave Adventures, apparently that is not an option available to me, since I'm not yet a verified publisher. I'll try writing OBS to see if this is a condition that can be solved or bypassed (at least temporarily) for the occasion.

Brave Adventures, I'd be happy to lend my products up go up to May 23 (or a whole month). Not sure how that affects the speed of how funds reach the appointed organisation, but we can be sure that there will still be a need in a months time. Kabuki K has just told me that it was as simple as putting in a paypal link to Care (and 5% transaction cost to OBS which I thought they were able to waive). Did the OBS staff have any suggestions about charities? They haven't put his bundle on the charities page yet. Care, DWB, Red Cross all look good to me. Anyone else got any preferences?
Nemo, there must be a mistake about you not being a verified publisher, you've been trading for some time. Sounds like something hasn't been ticked somewhere (by the OBS staff?) - did you try logging in through DriveThru? That was my route.

Correction. KK said that a simple paypal address didn't work at first without him mailing Meredith at OBS/DriveThru.

Correction. KK said that a simple paypal address didn't work at first without him mailing Meredith at OBS/DriveThru. Yup, I'm already in contact with Meredith. I think she'll be able to set it up for us. Nemo try going to Account, then at the bottom of the page click go to my publisher menu. From the next page you should see a list of options. Under the category Title Management find Manage Bundles. Let me know if you still can't find it! Ryan

That would be awesome Mr David Okumarts I think it's okay just to add any printable/papercraftish etc product to the bundle, and that also goes for anyone else, especially in CBW community who are publishers with OBS - you dont have to post here first. I'm sure Ryan / Brave Adventures would be fine with that. Bundle #: [edit] Bundle PW: [edit] Edit: To all submitting publishers: remember to check that the price of your product is $0 when it's in the bundle.

Hey, I'd like to get involved if it's not too late. Hi okumarts that would be great if you contributed! I set the bundle price to $20 but I can adjust it up or down if you guys think I should. Right now it is Thursday night in my time zone. If I'm going to post it on Saturday, I think the cut off for adding products should be tomorrow night. So, around 26 hours from now. For the charity Meredith says these charities are the easiest to donate to because they have RPGNow accounts: Red Cross, Hero Initiative, Doctors Without Borders, Feeding America, RPG Creator's Relief Fund. Kabuki Kaiser is donating to a different charity so it doesn't have an RPGNow account. Instead he has to withdraw all the funds to his PayPal and then donate via PayPal on the charity's website. Which charity does everyone vote for? BilliamBabble Inked Adventures, maybe you could make a poll for the thread? Ryan

Yes, Ryan, I did find the option Manage Bundles (I tried even connecting to DriveThru as BilliamBabble Inked Adventures suggested) but that option is locked to me. I mean there is the actual icon of a lock and the explanation about the fact that I'm not yet verified. Anyway, I wrote to the publisher service and as soon as they will answer me (hopefully in time), I will submit my products

Awesome! Thanks mesper ! Okay charities and polls ... I'm not going to include Feeding America and the Hero Initiative and RPG Creators Fund because they have specific and localised goals (correct me if I'm wrong) However, I think when choosing between Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders (MSF) when the funds are sent from OBS, the staff said you stipulate the intention for the money with a message (both Red Cross and DWB/MSF have special Nepal projects), but we might want to double check that. Certainly using one of those charities means that you can't be accused of theft/fraud (deliberate or accidental) because it's direct. I think the poll has to be in a separate thread. Okay, how many hours left?

We now have 20 products in the bundle. "Total Selling Price: $65.74 Bundle Price: $20.00 Savings off Total Selling Price:$45.74" This is so cool! I was originally going to suggest to Brave Adventures that we drop the price to $15, but $45.74 is still one hell of a saving and God knows we already under-price our products to start with. The question is if someone said to you, "Here's some ace products, but you may not of heard of most of it (i.e. it's not Wizards or some other big publisher) but it's a really important cause" how much would you be prepared to pay? Is $20 just right? Any thoughts?

I would feel the most comfortable donating to a charity directly. I had a friend whose father was an eye surgeon who volunteered for Doctors Without Borders, so I kind of like that one personally, but either that or Red Cross would be fine with me. Ryan

<...> $20 seems reasonable <...>
I'd opt for 15$ (or even LESS if possible!) as more affordable price level - I'd like to attract to this charity idea as many people as possible, giving them some sort of both reason and opportunity to shelf out some money. Then there is always some sort of "problem" with bundles, as many ppl might already own some (or even most) of included products; so perhaps we should make this entry level as low and affordable (thus provide some sound incentive for those who are not convinced) as possible?
<...> I would feel the most comfortable donating to a charity directly. I had a friend whose father was an eye surgeon who volunteered for Doctors Without Borders, so I kind of like that one personally <...>
Yep, me too! Well we are representing many countries and most of the continents here at CWF, not only Americas, right? Then Doctors Without Borders goals, work, dedication and achievements are IMHO well known and transparent.

Charity: I agree, Mesper, but on the subject of helping internationally, DWB here (and Red Cross) are the American branches - being a UK resident I was concerned that when I wanted to donate from my products a while back to Medecines Sans Frontieres that Doctors Without Borders (on the US site) was called thus primarily for the US donors (even though I can't spell it, everyone else in the world outside of the US seems to say MSF, but I could be wrong). It's all down to the way OBS move the dollars around, I think. I certainly wouldn't have mentioned American Red Cross if they weren't saying that they were supporting the emergency in Nepal - although I'm regretting ticking Red Cross on the poll now, because I like both yours and Brave Adventures points! Pricing: I think I was being intimidated but Kabuki Kaiser's runaway success in the first few hours with his bundle: $700+. He wasn't shy about emailing all the OBS customers and posting in most of the old school communities. Gutsy. His pack was $15. I'm a real penny-pincher when it comes to independent deals on DriveThru, even if the saving is big. Anyone else having opinions on this? Otherwise I think Brave Adventures should trust his gut instinct at the very last moment (?) $20 - go for it! I'm a rubbish gambler. Sell cheap, stack high? Max customers vs substantial individual donations? Maybe we're worrying too much. Maybe I'm worrying too much. The products are of a good quality, the cause is noble. * flag unfurls and music plays * I think the excitement has genuinely got the better of me!
