*Update* Here is the Final Version... ---------------------------------------------------------------- I have been lurking about but felt i should post something and say that I love what everyone is doing here. I am working on a set of lawmen (maybe some other western/deadlands type sets too if there is an interest) and thought i might gather some constructive criticism from everyone before i go much further. Here is an example of one of the figs.... still need to do his badge... and belt and some other things

I like him - good clear & clean lines belaying exactly what the figure is mean to be. Just one point on your next chap try and draw the face 3/4 not in profile. As it stands you are going to have a little problem with the figures facial hair and the black boarder.
Like I said it a great figure and I look forward to seeing the back of him then coloured (either by you or on of the other fantastic fellers on the board).
Oh and Welcome! I think you might have some fun here if you enjoy drawing and the likes.

Nice, this guy will look great colored and shaded. The posing looks good, and I second abbadons note for the 3/4 view, the sooner you can get used to those the better. I also wanted to suggest making the fingers a bit thinner, and rotating them up a bit so they point toward the palm of the thumb, but that's really nit picking.
Of coarse now you have to do more, especially outlaws. JIM

Thats a great start, and you have utmost good timing. Some of my group started a classic deadlands campaign and we are in desperate need of some figs for it. No one in my group is a big fan of the official or semi official tri fold minis for deadlands. So as soon as you finish and release the set it will IMMEDIATELY be assembled and put to good use!

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments...
The plan is for 5 "on foot" lawmen and maybe mounted versions of each... I'm not sure how often mounted figs would get used unless you were doing chases...
Outlaws/gunfighters will definitely be next

Five words... "Gunfight at the Okay Corral"
Good stuff! and there may well be a good market out there for some historicals, as well as fantasy and sci-fi!
Have fun, and WELCOME! Steve
P.S. - An excellent reference for Earp, etc., would be Tombstone with Patrick Swayze as Wyatt and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.

P.S. - An excellent reference for Earp, etc., would be Tombstone with Patrick Swayze as Wyatt and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. was Kurt Russell as Wyatt.. but yes.. fantasticl movie indeed!... ive been re-watching a bunch of westerns to set the mood and get ideas... Deadlands is a good mix of historic and fantasy... although even historical westerns are great for skirmish games. I have a hard time making an old west roleplaying campaign last very long, but for wargames it is a great setting.

I could take care of that department ;D. But its would be like 40th on my list of to-do things . This is great work. I know on one of my late night browsing adventures of papercraft websites I saw a wild west town. I need to find it again and see what scale its in. Nate

Nate Was it Whitewash City? - www.erichotz.com/whitewash.html They look pretty good... I noticed that site the other day when I was looking about. I was thinking of doing some buildings but there really is not any need to re-invent the wheel. I do have some sketches for a possible choo choo though ;D

$12 wouldn't be TOO bad if it was on par with some of the WWG stuff.. like the mayhem rail... but yeah i think that is kinda high for what it is... I made some adjustments based on the advice here... Back view coming soon... and color...

That is exactly it, now not only does the view get to see the very proud facial hair but also you have factored in the squint/aiming. Both these details add so much to a figure.
BTW how thick is the front boarder/stroke?

Thanks! I honestly can not remember the stroke thickness... it was either 3mm or 4mm... I just tossed it on there for the capture. When i printed that first draft out the border was way too fiddly to cut out easily although I might have overcompensated some on this one.
I'm glad you like the guns. I rarely draw anything without having a ton of reference pictures stuck all over my desktop.

my only worry with it is that perhaps my accurate depiction of the pistol may not hold up so well when colored.. the barrel is terribly small
Edit - Ok.. I was comparing my guy to some of Jim's humans.. and he is kinda scrawny... So I am going to rebuild him with more exaggerated hands, feet, and head and see if i can get him to match up more with the established style.

my first few figures had the same problem. They looked good but when compared to Jim's work they just looked too thin. I know metal/plastic figures have exaggerated proportions so that parts stand out on the table top. being the lover of firearms that I am It has been hard for me to get guns to look accurate and "fatten" them up so that they look good on the game table. If you have not already check this thread onemonk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=templates&action=display&thread=920it might help with the proportions Nate

tore him apart and rebuilt him with more exaggerated proportions ... Does this seem about right? btw.. still need to do some highlighting and wrinkles in his cloths.. this was just a quick gradient fill... i also need to change the color of his hair to a dark brown... black is too conflicting with the border i think

Nice. I kindda like the black hair. If you do a white highlight on the edges, I don't think you would have a problem at all. This is turning out very well. I can't wait to see the final version with the details.
