The Merchant Palace on the left was replaced on my table at Battleground 2023. This was in preparation for the phase two expansion of my Carnevale board. I had always intended this building to be a ship owners house. The large gothic window, placed on the business/pavement level, affords a clear view of the Grand Canal from the owners desk. The low pitched roof was designed for an altane, to function as a viewing platform. At the rear of the property, a door leads under the stairs to the private apartments, giving direct access to the office from the street. In this thread, I will endeavor to create a special riva for this building with access from two staircases and optional wooden jetty/dock alongside.

The extended, 8x6, pavement. This will form the top of the riva for the ship owners house.

Soon it's going to be as big as Venice itself.

Soon it's going to be as big as Venice itself. A 6x3 board is the long term goal, with a few variations possible. Not quite the 6x6 Rio Bonito became.

Initial layout for the steps. The blue line is the outline of the building. The black hatched area shows the steps. 2 inch drop to the canal on the left (looking from the canal front), this staircase can be intersected by a platform from a wooden jetty. Wider 1 inch drop will go to a lower riva behind. The red hatched area shows the trachyte edging. I am thinking about moving the 2 inch drop steps forward to the back of the building and texturing to match in.

The pavement for the riva. The cut and marked areas will fold down to form side tabs to attach the stairs. On the long stairs, I will also use the tabs on the riva walls. I plan to make a horizontal tab half way up the riva back wall to hold the bottom of the short steps.

The long stairs. this is a kit-bash of Vermin King's ramo stairs for Ca Dario. The grey brick is the same (David Graffam) texture as the riva wall and goes on the side of the steps nearest the back of the riva. The red brick is from the first of Glenn William's Merchant Prince houses to suggest the back of the building. The corner stones, to tidy up the transition from building to riva, are from Vermin King's Spezeria model. A little "beggar thy neighbour" but the only way I could guarantee a consistent look.

Riva walls attached, ready for the stairs (viewed from the back). A little trial and error involved in getting the back corner between the stairs right. The upper section of the back wall has been cut and folded back, this will support the shorter stairs

Rear stairs fitted. I added small tabs on the front edges, glued inside the wall, to avoid gaps. The side stairs are ready to fit.

Side stairs fitted. I may need time to work out the trachyte edging

Thanks Glenn. The next step is constructing the jetty. Ravenfell Docks by Fat Dragon Games may need a bit of kit-bashing.

On the back of the riva. Everything lines up nicely but this is not ideal for my setup.

Ideally I want to set up the jetty on the side like this. A removable walkway would link the jetty to the mid-point on the stairs. Giving the option of setting up without the jetty.

Back view. I am wondering if a new door is needed in the back wall. The one under the stairs is not really accessible from the outside.

While working out the tweaks to crane and docks, I decided to rework the house. The front is basically unchanged. I decided to attach the doors and windows (with the exception of the large bay) in Photoshop, as I have found this ensures a neater finish and speeds up the final build.

The back has two major changes. The texture is unrendered brick to match the external stairs and ramo stairs. I added an extra door to give access to the stairs in the riva. I will be keeping the outside door under the stairs, as this gives an option to place cargo on the pavement. The upper level has no windows at the back as the altane is accessed from this level.

While working out the fold and cut lines for the final build, I decided to flip the upper section of the right wall. This should make the exposed brick look a little more unified

I was hoping to be presenting the build pictures at this stage. The test build was not as square as I hoped, so I am doing a quick redesign of the internal floor. I should be back on track tomorrow evening.

Modified side walls. To improve stability, I have extended the side tabs to 1 inch and added large tabs to the top edge. Not immediately obvious in this picture, the cutaway at the front now comprises 1 inch side wall and one inch tab.

Using the original drop in base as a template, I created a tabbed version. The long tab at the bottom edge will glue inside the bottom edge of the back wall. When the building is placed on its riva, the base will be pushed down into place. I am hopeful that this will square the corners and reduce curvature of the walls

Back and side walls with custom base attached. The strip at the top will join the sides at the cutaway. While working on the hat shop, I discovered that this gives a more solid building
