Actually, "Zombies ARE my homework." Well, I am one of the luckiest guys around, Mr. David Okum has requested that I be one of his playtesters for KATANA SCHOOLGIRLS VS. FURRY ZOMBIES (Serene Fist 4). Well, I jumped at this chance and honor to be among the first to playtest this. I have playtested Sammo's IN THE FRAY (ANOTHER great game soon to be released), and have helped out with some other proof-reading and playtesting projects over the last couple years. I have even done some test-builds of models of AoM among others. Hey, it's what I do... Well, I printed everything out last night, and read through the instruction booklet/manual. I have got to say first off, Dave Okum in the consumate professional! The layout and feel of his book was TOP NOTCH! I compared it to many other professional booklets by big and powerful companies that have been around for decades! Great job. Well, when you think of OkumArts, you should think of layers! (Dave Graffam in another name that uses layers in an AWESOME way). Well, sho 'nuff, Dave has layers of zombies... I have read where people didn't like the "furry" zombies... well, simply don't print that layer if you don't wanna! There are PLENTY more to chose from! There are also layers of color options for the Katana Girls (hey, wasn't that a girl band from the 80's? LOL!) Seriously, I have to admit, when I first saw this game, I thought it had some potential, but we all know my stand on certain things (like bare mid-drifts) and thought I had NO interest in zombie games... Well, after reading the rules and seeing the details and features of this game, I can't WAIT to play it! Now, since this isn't Dave Okum's thread, I feel I can take the time to say this, too. DARKMOOK: I have said ini the past that I LOVE your work, and I wanted you to release your HUMANS only set because I had no need for zombies... WELL, NOW I DO! This game is so incredible, and since a zombie is a zombie... you can even use DARKMOOK's miniatures in it as well! Now, if OkumArts and DarkMook were to do a collaboration and DarkMook would help OkumArts come up with stat cards for his figures, that would be the greatest gaming experience I have witnessed since I had DEADPOOL and DEATHROKE THE TERMINATOR on the same team in HERO CLIX! Talk about two tastes that taste great together!! WOW! This is truly an amazing game. Be prepared for picture (you know me) to follow. I will keep you posted.

Ok... I made nearly 40 miniatures, the rulebook and the cards. He did such a good job on these that even I made them look good.

Here are the Katana Schoolgirls/Zombie forms, and the zombies... BTW, I only made up half the Zombie figures...

I made this up to hold the cards. I am funny, I know... but I can't stand stacks of cards toppling over...

The stage is set... the cards and map tiles are in place. (The should have been mounted... I have some black cardstock, but it is too cold (and rainy) to spray the adhesive spray outside).

I drew the cards for the character, talents, dark secret and everything. So, we are ready for a walk in the park, right?

As she entered the sewer, she heard rattling in the dark. As she walked away from the light she saw two people coming toward her. She called out to them. They didn't answer... she walked cautiously up to them, and she realized that they weren't among the living anymore. It was time to act. They couldn't make it to the surface.

She attacked. Her blades slicing through their leathery flesh. As her blades disembowed the first carcass as a smell beyond words filled the air. As the male clawed at her, she blocked with her blade driving him to the ground. She saw him struggling to stand. She brought her blade down over her head. The two bodies wouldn't cause any more harm to anyone.

As she moved north, she saw something laying on the drain in a chamber between some barrels. It was football shoulder pads that she felt she could use as LIGHT ARMOR.

As she turned the corner, she encountered a giant panda bear. Having bad memories of a childhood trauma relating to an Amusement Park, she was too shocked by the panda appearing that she didn't have time to be scared. Her sword struck twice. As the body fell, it started to move as if to stand. As before, her sword removed the costume's head... and the one wearing it.

Nearly half-way through the labyrinth, she spots a canister-shaped container ahead. As she moves closer, she recognizes the familiar item ahead of her. She pulls the katana half-way out of its sheath. The room nearly illuminates due to the shining metal of the new blade. She new this was a special weapon. She continues along as the reality of the foes she faced were people. True, they were undead creatures, but at one time... Her thoughts weigh heavy on her mind and she begins to feel BUMMED OUT. Distracted by the depressed tone of her sombre mood... she looks up....

Out of the darkness, four zombies were standing on top of her. She spotted the acid pool behind them... knowing if she could just knock them back into the pool, she could get free enough to finish them off. By the time she hit the first one, the others had already surrounded her. She couldn't move. They were all over her. She heard the screams getting more and more faint as she lost contiousness...

Excellent synopsis. Now you have something new to consider. Game-testing and then turning the results into a novel which you will also illustrate.
Thanks

Oh, I should mention that the bases were from INKED ADVENTURES. You can get them at RGPNow.com. Make sure to download them when you pick up this set!
(That was my commercial for the day).

This is a great battle report. It is a good solo game, but really fun and cut throat as a multi-player game. The number of zombies you encountered was exceptional. They are nasty on their own, but REALLY nasty in groups of 3 or more. The best thing about multi-player game is that when your Katana Schoolgirl is defeated you can play the reanimated zombie version and dish out all kinds of havoc. Just a bit more editing now. Wow, this is taking bloody for-ev-er... Still it will be worth it as I have a Classic Fantasy Dungeon Crawl version I want to do and a Wild West Gunfight game I've been excited about as well.

Well, looks like we found something I can do after all... playtest and battle reports! (We just won't talk about how Dave had to sit down in the chair next to me an walk me through the game step-by-step)! (No, he didn't travel South across the border... my laptop, "Bessie" was in the chair next to me).

The added narrative makes it fun to read.
I've done a lot of play testing over the the years, and written reports that were pages long, some including every dice roll and model elevations, but they were never fun to read through.
I'm not a huge fan of the western genre, but I've been watching AMC's Hell On Wheels. You put the western version of this on a train and I think you have a winner on your hands .

There you go, Dave! WHIPLASH TRIGGER'S GOLDRUSH EXPRESS! You and yer posse hafta clean the train of all of it's varments 'afore the train reaches the station. The problem is, the train has no lights and there are no stars out ta'night! You start in the caboose (which will be a pregenerated tile that will always act as "start"), and you hafts fight yer way through them thar coyotes and head yer way to the engine, and take control back from the big boss! If ya fail ta stop 'em, the gold shipment won't get through... if ya do, you'll be the heroes of the new frontier! (The cool thing is, I could even use my Critter Valley figures for my own personal games). This could proove to be interesting. Each tile could be the train car, and instead of two 4x4 tiles per sheet, they could be 4x8. The engine and each car would be a separate tile. There would be passenger cars, boxcars, dining cars... each would have a certain number of spawning points. Then there's always Option Two WHIPLASH TRIGGER'S MIDNIGHT TRAIN! Well, there's sumtin' 'bout the train that just ain't right. Them thar passengers have a funny look 'bout them. Thar eyes ain't right! The look like they is dun-did been killed already! The train's speeding outta control, and if you cain't stop it, it will jump the tracks and go flyin' into the town, killin' hundreds! Ok... Need I remind anyone again that I AM a game deisgner? Ok, tha is my 2 cents werth.. I mean "worth." (Sorry, it's hard to stop once ya get started).

I pick up dialects like crazy. When I was in Europe, I'd sometimes intentionally go into either a mountain west accent or ozark hillbilly accent just to escape whatever one I was currently trapped in.
The train concept is definitely worth more consideration. Adventures on the train. Adventures at the destinations. Plus there are already several Steam Engines out there that could be scaled up to 28mm from HO or down from O. And of course all the buildings used for terrain on railroad layouts.
Definitely think about it.

Oh, by the way, no one asked about the coffe container in first picture. That was an empty container I keep everything in... the map pieces, the zombies... everything (except the rulebook and the little card caddy). Just in case someone was curious. (I consider it "recycling"). ...plus it gives everything that fresh-brewed aroma!

I do really like the idea of a train based game. I made some tiles back in the 80s that were 9x3" and these were quite stylish. I can see all kinds of rules and scenarios. As for titles: Whiplash Trigger: Blood and Steam Whiplash Trigger: End of the Line Lots of options/ideas for sure. In the meantime, I'm just finalizing the rulebook this week. I managed to get shingles somehow and it is hard to sit at my desk for extended periods of time. Ouchie mama, it's sore.

Shingles ... I'm one of those rare people who had chicken pox twice, so I am going to be at a high potential for shingles later on. You are never too young for the shingles vaccine.
Whiplash Trigger: End of the Line!!!
That has my vote
