When I do spoked wheels, I usually print 3 of each wheel and cut out the spokes. I glue two back to back, then cut out a rim and hub to glue on the outside. Looks nice and retains strength. Will there be room to put an extra set of wheels on the file?

Here is my finished, shaded model. I did a test printing to make sure that the colors were OK and was happy with the results. Attachments:

Oh, lovely, lovely, lovely, gilius ! This woman is a sunshine. I think, she's a good apprentice for Reivaj's shamen, rattling illness away or contributing to tribal music. Great ! Subtle coloring as always. @grendelsmother, first class models indeed. Your texturing looks very professional. High detail painting. I like that very much. So, I have 1 day left to contribute. Let me see ... .

I wonder if we'll have an extension this month ...

Nice work Gilius. I'm definitely not ready to share any of my figures yet. I'm much better at building boxes. And yeah, an extension would be good, because this is all the time I've got for this for the next 3 days, and I don't have the labels and instructions on the stagecoach. Here's the finished art (ready to be put together if you're adventurous enough to try without instructions or parts labeled) dl.dropbox.com/u/15163033/StageCoach_LIGHT.jpgTest build: dl.dropbox.com/u/15163033/west_test02.JPGI haven't got time for a build right now, but it goes together pretty much like the test build pic. (the back rack is bigger, and the driver's perch is a little different) The frame under the cab is the long flat yellow rectangular box (with a big white area where you glue the cab). The axles are triangular cross-sections(with tabs to match the inside of the wheels). The rear axle glues to the back edge of the frame, and the front axle (small wheels) glues underneath near the front. Hopefully, it'll end up looking just a little bit like this: www.flickr.com/photos/jerrbo/5573570161/sizes/l/in/photostreamAnyway, I should be able to put some labels and instructions on this weekend...and actually build one. Shawn.

I take it the rear axle attached to the blank end of the chassis frame, right? That's the only question I had. Pretty straight-forward, other than that. Looks good.
Thanks

Yeah, the back axle is attached to the back of the frame, not underneath. That way the wheels sit relatively even on the ground.
The outside bits of the driver's perch are separate, but the outside bits of the luggage rack fold back over (along the line that looks like a zipper...it's suppose to be a chain). Neither are coloured underneath. (a red or back marker would work). And the driver's perch has a little footrest board (red side folded under) that can be angled up a bit for looks...or folded flat to allow a figure to stand there.
Hope that all makes sense.
Would be great to see some photos posted if anybody makes one.
Thanks, Shawn.

You don't want to see mine. My color printer is dead. Also, my son has my camera. With tax time coming up, the new printer and camera are on hold.
But I did want to make one to check it out.
When I do one for real (in color), I am going to do an extra set of outside wheels, just for the rims and hubs. I like the depth that doing that gives wagon/stage wheels. I'll also cut out between the spokes.
This was a nice build. Thanks

Okay, so I don't usually do Wild West figures, but I wanted to get something in the Horde so I gave it a try. I only did two figures, an old prospector named Smokey Joe Pete and a cow wrangler named Montana Bob. Hope you like them. Here is a pic, i hope you like it I actually like it a lot but... isn't the backside of the right eagle wrong? Should we not see the back of the wings?... -edit- Ok, after looking for an image of the back of an eagle i got it: it is not "wrong". but it gives to me the wrong impression.... talking about the back side only, i'd remove the shadow between the upper and the lower part of the wings (the feather are on the same "level" there) and put the last feathers (the ones close to the body) OVER the tail:

@reivaj, your Shaman is GREAT ! Very cool to see a companion animal too. Your lines and coloring are top-notch, no doubt about that ! Powerful, spiritual miniature. I would like to see some more priest-type minis of yours ... . @dryw, charming characters ! You can do any genre with your style, can't you ? They're reminding me of Mark-Twain-stories, don't know why ... . @grendelsmother, yipieeehh ! Throw the luggage on top and crack the horse-whip ! FASTER ... Banditos behind (the ... cough ... dust). Fine detailing. You know how it's build. Did you study some reference material ? @sirrob, please don't close the Hoard now. I've finished and testbuild something, working very hard in the last hours. I still need to include some digicam pics to show the assemblage. I can upload it today, the 5th of April. I am very satisfied, though it's very fiddly to build. Has its gritty ;D moments, but I simplified my style to match the Hoard feel more. greetings, paladin

The old entrepreneur served as a highly ranked officer in the Civil War. After loosing his leg by a canister shot, he used his connections and civil skill as a trained merchant to make money in producing and selling cheap equipment to the Union armies, reinvesting later in railway companies. Now he's paying a private army of gunned guys and is quite influential in several frontier towns, always looking for opportunities to gain power and money. He is known as "the General". His steel-plated wheelchair with a mounted custom Gatling is the most heavy and expensive one in the West. He needs some hands to help him move. But once in place, it's like a little fortress. Don't mess with this angry old man. [Feel free to mount the Gatling on top of grendelmother's vehicles ;D] Attachments:

Here are some assemblage pics. I hope, they're self-explaining. @sirrob, I made the test-build at double-size. So I fear, some parts are very, very tiny, especially the little-wheel- and axis-parts. Maybe you have to improvise and find other solutions, like a toothpick as wheel-axis etc. If you fix the large wheels on a foamcore or cork base, the General should be pretty stable (and the wheels vertical ;D). greetings, paladin Attachments:

I just whipped it out without getting it even close to down to scale. went together well, with very little head-scratching.
Now if we could have a couple of those cacti, a buzzard and a burro, I would really, really, really be a happy guy.
I'm just like a kid or a cat, aren't I? Give me something I like and I pester everyone for more.

Cool, thanks VerminKing, so it works, did I get this right ? I have not checked the scale. Should be about 30 mm eyeline like Jim Hartman minis ... . Do you use the Gatling gun ? Sorry, I am out on this. I have reached my time limit. Maybe okumarts can crank out some Texas vegetation !? He he ;D ... .

The wheelchair is amazing! Sadly I am going to have to pull an all-nighter just to get my marking done. This is a very heavy marking semester and I am way behind and need to trim down the pile a bit. I feel badly to miss such a great horde, but wow, there are some really cool things in there already!

Thanks alot for your kind feedback, okumarts and Reivaj ! okumarts, that's sad. Teaching is demanding. The curriculae are crowded with content. Here in Germany university is more or less some kind of giant ineffective data manipulation machine ... read text, write test, forget (Politicians want it like that right now.). Do you teach at art school ? You can always contribute to the Western Theme on your own thread, of course. @reivaj, I always need a little story babble to get me in the right mood to come up with something. And then I tell others what I thought during drawing ... .

Okumarts: I wish you could be a part, but life has to come first. Like Paladin said, you can always put something in your own section. And though it is rarely done, other themes can be included in any hoard. I read that somewhere.
Paladin: On my quick and dirty build that is too large, I did it the way you have it in the pics. When I do a clean version in scale later on, I was thinking of having the mount go up the back of the wheelchair and the gun positioned just below shoulder level on the right side. Easier for the crippled guy to get up. On the large version I think the axles need reinforcement. On my next one, I think I'm going to fold them over an extra layer to give it more strength ... just in case. I'm also going to add extra wheels in my print. I'll cut out the outer edge and hub and glue to the wheel assembly to give it a little depth. Excellent model. Thanks.
