I'd like to see oldschooldm make a building pop up like this. Pretty cool, but I don't think it's all that useful to us.

Ooh de lally! I hope I can find time to cook something up, although I must be a bit rusty. In any case, I can't wait to see what people come up with!

So I googled and found TLoEG online. I liked it OK but I found Nemo's car more interesting than the Nautilus itself. I feel like they got Nemo wrong as a character, though it has been decades since I read the book. It's based on the comic books, rather than the classic novels.

I've been looking for something similar - old cyclostyle wheel pens for stencil, which are very similar to what you found. I was convinced they'd be ideal for scoring, and it looks like I was right. Just haven't been able to find any yet myself.

I have a similar 3D tile WIP that I wanted to enter a couple of years ago, but Squirmydad deemed it to belong in the model category, and I didn't enter it.
I'm glad to see that minds were changed - I might enter my tiles next year, then.

Over here, if you weigh 90 you're really, really heavy! I certainly hope you don't mean kilograms... :S That would make me obese, as I weigh 93.

Well, the image isn't exactly self-explaining. You know what, I think I'll make a few more prototypes, and post it in a thread of its own, so we don't hijack this subject any more than we already did.

WWG TLX is a system of ground tiles (with glued-on adapters), walls (that connect to the tile adapters and the other walls via tongue-and-groove), and roofs. There are also exterior sets that use the same system, but the "walls" are trees and such. I detest the glued in adapters for many reasons - so I've been making various non-post and non-adapter versions, reusing the excellent textures for my own sets. Now everything store perfectly flat and requires MUCH less work to build. I have to agree with you about the glued on anchors for holding the posts to hold the walls. Royal PITA... But I haven't really found anything else that will let me do the kinds of structures that I want to make without some major kitbashing. I'm still looking though and I think I am going to try something else for my multi-level zombie manor when I finish the TLX Shellendrak Manor. Cardstock Dane: Many apologies for confusing you. I was speaking strictly about the ground tiles and not the walls. My goof. I know what TLX is, guys. I bought most of the WWG sets ages ago. Cardstock Dane: Many apologies for confusing you. I was speaking strictly about the ground tiles and not the walls. My goof. Ok, but then I don't understand what you meant when you said that WWG was already making something like these. Hence my confusion. I've been researching my six off, and I haven't been able to find anyone that makes exactly the same.

Ok, now you got me confused. I'm pretty sure that none of the TLX tiles has walls - but maybe you can tell me I'm wrong?

World Works Games has something similar to what you have done, but they have the ability to "stick" their tiles together by tabs inserted into the sides of them. Not sure which set you mean, and their webpage is down, for a change. Do you remember the name of the set? Your set looks pretty good as well and it actually might be easier to assemble than WWG's stuff, but it won't hold together as well without some type of connectors. Thanks, it's still a WIP, and I am pondering some kind of tab system. However, my system works without foam board, so I have to come up with something clever.

I love it! I just wish I thought of it myself. I never even considered something like that until radoslawkamil (sp?) said something, and then I had it pictured in my head in no time and got it done on gimp in about 10 minutes and the correction only took a couple of minutes more. I'm not a great creative thinker, but if someone gives me and idea, I can usually make it work. Oh, I'm not that creative, either, but I can think in constructions. Makes me want to dust off an old idea of mine: The 3D paper tile. Here's a prototype I made (that's why it still has white edges):

To be honest, I've come to the conclusion that unfolding 3d models is a pretty time consuming process, considering all the tab adjusting that needs to be done afterwards. I use Sketchup for making 3D mockups, and for testing textures, but I do all the model design work in Photoshop. I find it much faster and much more efficient than using 3D software and Pepakura.

I was wondering if anyone has the pdf's for this? The DropBox links om Tumblr all seem to be broken, sadly. ETA: It seems to be Beginner’s Guide, Alternate Basing and Alternate Posts only, that are missing. But if anyone has those, I'd be grateful.

OMG! cartoon.pho.to/ is the best thing ever for this hobby!!!!!!! More exclamation points!!!!1111!!!!one!!one!!111!!!!!! I think I need to go have a bit of a lie down now... I know! I use them when I make paper minis out of lead mini photos. It works great! Here's an example (please ignore the bases, it was an early attempt):

I'm still messing around with making paper minis out of photos of lead minis. Rcently, I stumbled upon some software that can convert raster pics into vector. I tried it with a couple of my conversions, and here is an example - the original pic and miniature used in the example can be found here (linky). Normal, cartoon filtered raster on the left - vectorized on the right. I actually think it makes them look a bit better, smoother etc. Question is - is it noticeable on print (30 mm scale), and thus, worth the bother? /CD

Just out of curiosity... how much does the print shop charge for making the prints, and how much for the pre-cutting job?
