Ahh I misunderstood. I think that looks great! Subtle but effective. It also holds the riders in place.

Toman I think I understand your question. I did a quick test on one of them and I didn't care for the result. Since the legs are bent outwards and around the saddle in the artwork, posing them like the arms looked weird to me, like the legs were broken. Having said that, I would still try it out for yourself!

Greetings to all my fellow Cardboard Warriors! This week I released my first unit of paper cavalry. These guys were a challenge but I'm very pleased with how they turned out. I have attached the free version to this post. You can also find it on my Patreon page: www.patreon.com/paperarmies along with all my other paper minis sets. I would love to hear your thoughts! edit: It seems the PDF file is too large so I have broken the set up and attached JPGs instead. You can get the original file here: www.patreon.com/file?h=18124833&i=2234198Is there a better way to do this? Attachments:

jeffgeorge Thank you very much. I'm glad you like them. Pricing has always been a tricky one. Initially I had them at $16.99 with some bases included. In the end I figured it was better to leave the bases separate and keep my price as low as possible. The idea was always to have an affordable, easy in for prospective war gamers. Also, since basing needs vary, I felt like I was adding barriers by charging for something people may not need. I will be adding it to my sig for sure. I will see about adding that RPG tag to the minis as well. nolabert I think so. The Game Crafter's 20mm bases have slightly smaller slots (14mm). The tabs on the minis ar 13.5mm chiefasaur agreed. Hopeuflly they will improve this. I will try to bring it to their attention. emergencyoverride Thanks! I was super pumped when they showed me the prototypes. I'm looking forward to getting my first laser cut Paper Armies set in the mail. Will post pics when it arrives. old squirmydad You should! The only trouble I ran into was optimizing the SVGs for the laser cutter. They have some pretty good resources and tutorials on their site. One tool I found extremely useful was this one: svg.zovu.co/ it will automatically optimize and prep your files for laser cutting. I'd be more than happy to help! okumarts I found the rep I dealt with to be super helpful. However trial and error is always a part of it. You can upload your project and mess around without publishing right away, which helps. migibb I believe Paper Forge is doing some work with them, and probably others. There should be a newsletter going out in several weeks announcing their paper mini products.

Thank you!
I've been looking into getting some professionally printed (double sided on heavy stock) and laser cut. I want to launch a Kickstarter campaign to produce an army made up of sheets of "pop out" and play minis (with some assembly require of course). The idea is to have them set up almost like a sprue, but on a sheet of paper; so they'd be pre-cut with only a few contact points keeping them on the page. They would come with pre-cut foam core bases as well (with the texture printed right on/an adhesive sticker type deal).
My big concern is getting people to see it. I feel like it may just go unnoticed among the many KS campaigns going on all the time. I've heard people say that you need a robust marketing campaign before you launch in order to get funded...
Just thought I'd share whats going on with the project. You guys are always a great source of support.

Hello everyone! Here are some design ideas for my next unit. They belong to the same faction as my last "Northern Named Men" (which turned out to be Ranehold Heavy Infantry). As I mentioned in a previous post, these will be true 2D. I thought about making one them with a poseable draw arm but I think 2D is appropriate for these guys. Let me know what you think!

Thanks again jeffgeorge! I'm happy to hear how much you enjoy my artwork. I understand what you're saying about the market, but I want to give it more time before changing strategies. Hopefully it'll pick up. I have a few different ideas for future projects including some RPG dedicated minis, and some small scale (probably 15mm) mini units for playing with huge armies. Until then, some of my minis will work better in 2D than others. My current upcoming release (archers) happen to be true 2D just because of the nature of the archery stance. I hope you can find a use for them! I will start a new thread on this board for that unit. Thanks Toman for posting those pictures! I'm happy to see them put together I really appreciate the feedback everyone.

jeffgeorge what a great comment! Thank you. You brought up some issues I've been mulling over myself. I was worried about the weakness my minis have vs those designed to be true 2D. I was also worried about storage, and if people would be turned off by having to bend and pose them. However, I started making these because I felt there werent enough paper options designed specifically for wargamers out there, and as you said, I think they work well for that. You're very right about the differences between gamers. I think I'm going to stick to my plan and keep going with 2.5D minis for wargames. Some will be able to fall into both categories, but I won't be worrying about compromising the design to be able to fit them into 2D as well. Thanks again!

Toman Thanks for your input! Now that you mention it, yes, their poses are almost identical to the golbins'. However, the arms are meant to be folded/bent into place to offer some degree of variation (and the shield glued on as well). I've found that bending the arms and slightly twisting them can yield some pretty good looking results. Having said that, I will try to change it up for the next unit. All of my Paper Armies minis are meant for the tabletop, for rank & flank games. The unit as a whole needs to look good from standing height. I approached these guys as if they were made from a single piece sculpted body and separate heads, arms, and shields, if that makes sense. I have been tempted to drop the 2.5D aspect so that I could focus more on the illustration, and get more dynamic poses. However, they need to fill up the space of the unit's footprint, and evoke that diorama feeling. It's also been a fun challenge trying to come up with other solutions for 2.5D figs for the various troop types (monsters, cavalry, 2 handed weapons, etc...)

Papercraft Warrior I thought the same thing. I like how the "links" marks kind of blend into a grey texture at a distance. Test print looks good to me. Looking forward to getting them colored and ranked up!

Phew its been a while! My time's been cut short since I got a new job (corner store to pay the bills). I just released this sneak peek on my Patreon page. So the Northern Clans has turned into Ranehold. These guys are Ranehold heavy infantry. Happy with them so far. Speaking of too much detail how do you guys like the chainmail?

Thanks jeffgeorge! They will be available end of February/beginning of March. I appreciate the critique! However, these are meant to be concept art; more of a visual reference for when I am creating the minis themselves. I like to do this step just to make sure I have the visual language down for each unit, and keep them looking consistent. It also keeps me sharp and adds to my portfolio. Level of detail and contrast for minis is always a challenge. I will keep your advice in mind! Thanks again
