So you know I'm not dead. My sister wanted to know what I was working on so I have scanned all these in. I draw 3 figures on one A/4--letter size page at a time. Theme is fairies. Not all of these poses are going to make it to the drawing desk, but I haven't decided yet. And it looks like there is going to be at least two releases from the sheer amount I'm making.  As I figure there are only a few fairy activities known to man --one and most well known is dancing --and playing music --probably around the fire, hiding --being shy, and the opposite being provocative --malicious. As the fairies kill their victims slowly --make them dance until s/he is exhausted or starve them to death I'm not sure what use are they for the playing community. They are known to fly by magic, and they achieve child size by magic these are going to be small figurines. Also I'm planning to give them wings. But trying to keep it simple for myself and add those later in the process. I may add a few more boys lugging along some fire wood, and some wisps around the fire to keep it going. Anybody want a feast made by fairies? Ideas, requests, criticism, woes? Anita |

Wow! Thanks sis to show this!  I like the poses. My fav one is the jumping-dancing-smiling one -with closed eyes-. And I don't really like the buglike ones. I hate bugs  And yeah, fairies arent really kind creatures, i mean they danced the people to death in the cross roads. Ok it is in the Celtic mitology. But you know Dryden and Flaire hate them too. xDDD Poor Xiron and Lardoac. i am really currious for the finished one.  I am sure it isnt an easy set. Or it wouldn't be easy for me. |

Those are some lovely female figure comps. The style sort of reminds of the old Disney artist sketches.

I can use for 'Lil' in my Gamma World, or 'Wee ones' for Metamorphosis Alpha.
Suggestion: Could you do one riding a large dragonfly?

Can we take the easy way out and say all of them?  in terms of gaming anita, there are a couple of sets of fairy specific rules out there, i.e. 'Fairy Meat' and 'naughty Fairies', there are also possible encounters in most RPGs, so don't worry about us finding uses for them. |

I am not letting my daughter see this thread. The buggy ones are neat, but they don't say fairy to me. I'd like to see eldritch half-buglings developed on their own. The ones that are half plant are wonderful and make me think of nature spirits and protectors of wild places. |

Thank you all for the comments! I'm not getting anywhere with the project though. I'm not feeling very confident about how I want them... and other stuff. Xtea: I remember your characters. Good thing that no fairy made me dance in a cross road, poor things would have laughed themselves to death seeing me... try and move. And I know that you don't like bugs, that grasshopper on your wall was pretty cool though, still haven't seen comparison in its size anywhere. Beau: I'm planning to make the girls just girls in dresses made out of fruits, petals, flowers, leaves, insects and what they can find in nature. I wanted to make the guys more "masculine" looking, that is why they got merged with things. It is hard to make a guy look boyish covered with roses... or I just don't know the good way for it. Maybe that is the reason people don't draw guy fairies - do they exist? Floyd: I have never been to Disney. Sketches are similar looking everywhere I suppose, so I'm not that surprised it reminds you on something. Unfortunately I'm not good enough to be a Disney animator. DJLittle: I was planning to give them wings of their own, so riding a dragonfly seems pointless. However I'll keep it in mind, and maybe add it to the list. Magpiestear: Okay, I'm not worried. I'm glad someone thinks they are needed. Steve: I'd still not recommend you to join for a dinner with them, it might be risky Eric: So you are suggesting to put them in a different set called Ents? The nature spirits are nymphs! So they don't say fairy for you in that category either. See? That is one reason I'm not so certain about my work, they don't suggest fairy to me either. I think I'm going to redesign the whole thing from the beginning and either skip drawing boys, or wrap them all in leaves. my first reaction to the boys was 'LOST BOYS!!', particularly the non buggy ones. Only just realised the swirls represent wood (knots etc) and not tribal paint. If you dropped the wooden feet etc and just gave them normal feet as well as the ood sling shot/catapult or sword or dagger they would make excellent lost boys for Neverland!!
Your female forms are awesome as fairies though!

Love them all - in this instance the more "dollish" they are the more old school fay they will become.
As for Dragonfly riders - Anita we have legs yet we rode horses.

Magpiestear: I don't like Peter Pan. As a kid I had a lot against those kids, because I didn't think it was right to not be with your parents. I am a weird person like that. Jabbro on the other hand likes it and made me watch it so I don't hate it anymore, but still don't like it.  Of course there are a lot of movies like that he loves and I just cannot stand it  Thank you for the trust. Just wait for those gals to be ruined by me  Lord A.W. Yes, that is a good reply. Like I said I'll think about that dragonfly. I know what you mean, and I don't want to use materials that humans would make clothes out of. Nowadays artists don't mind doing that. Well that was one thing I didn't want to do with these. I hope to be somewhere in the middle. They are not dolls, but they are not unknown life forms either. (Or different --like Ents, nymphs) And this brings me back to what I've originally came here for. Uploads. I have redesigned my musicians. Squirmydad's comment was the last nudge, so I thank you! Finally Jabbro likes them too, now only if I was happy with them.  The first guy is "wearing" a tree with some grass mixed in, the second is an artichoke and the third an oak tree.  The first guy is "wearing" a dracena, the second chestnut and the third a walnut tree. I've been sweating ink with these, I hope at least I am on the right path. Those look like fairies, not bug people. I like them a great deal as they tie in with one of the beliefs of fairies as guardian spirits or 'Manu'. I think that's the right spelling; basically it's the belief that every living growing thing manifests a protective spirit energy that can take form and substance and effect the material world when needed. I've always seen Fairies as natures little helpers and their powers and strengths are determined by what nature energy has gone into their manifestation. I think I have that right, I may have just made it all up though. Ents are actually giant-folk who tend to the forests. Their long association with nature energies transformed them over time into more tree-like life. Lost Boys aren't runaways; they're babies who fell out of their prams when their nursemaids weren't paying attention and the fairy folk whisked them away to Neverland for their own protection. In Peter Pan the belief of fairies is that they are born from the first laugh of a baby. |

They will be excellent in any horror roleplaying game...... I used to run ravenloft and the appearance of any cute, innocent looking creature always had my group waiting to see who was going to get a faceful of tentacles first |

Eric: I'm glad you like them now too ;D I'll let you make up explanations like that, they sound too good for letting them unspoken. I thought they were nature's little helpers too, but not nature spirits that are "tied" to live in one spot because say the lake or forest, or valley or mountain they are spirits of cannot go anywhere... Like nymphs.
I know that the lost boys aren't runaways. As a kid I didn't get that part, hahah, but second time around watching it with Jabbro I realized that. Still don't like it.
Jose: I would have never thought of using them in horror set up. Not that I'm against it or anything. If it works out for you and your group that is great. Another use for them I have not accounted for.
So sister like these versions more too?! Whoohoo! I've done pretty well then changing these guys.

These are fantastic and really capture the fun spirit of faerie folk. Some awesome looking butterfly wings would look perfect, along with a riding toad or snail. And someone needs to do a giant mushroom.
And some traditional pointy hat gnomes would not be out of place.

I only wanted typical fairies' set... like y'know the thing that first comes into mind instead of "little folks --gnomes, wisps, elves etc.". The mushroom I was planning to make, I have a pretty old drawing of a mushroom fairy sitting on a mushroom I haven't posted that one. Don't worry about not liking it Anita, if you're talking about the animated one the story didn't really survive the Disneyfication process. Peter pan actually deals with some of the darker side of childhood. Peter is selfish and egocentric. He only cares bout what he wants and quickly forgets things that aren't important to him at the time. He is totally blind to how others feel and has no concept of the impact he has on their lives. The book (and hence the original stage play) is also much more bloodthirsty, a pirate dies within the first few pages (killed by Hook!) and often refers to Lost Boys being killed by pirates and pirates killed by lost boys. The book is much better (if written in a somewhat difficult style) and the official sequal 'Peter Pan in Scarlet' is also well worth reading and again delves into the darker side of Peter. Back on topic, those boys look really really good now! I like the way you've dressed them in different types of foliage. We currently have a calendar on the wall whose theme is fairies, every month it depicts a different fairy, all are themed to different plants and are dressed accordingly. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see the coloured versions and the girl fairies as well! Mags |

And the Mermaids were jealous of Wendy! Just look at the way they treated her, trying to drown her, and then there was Tiger Lily!!!! Peter though was totally oblivious to all flirting, all he wanted was attention and couldn't/didn't read any of the signs.............typical 13 year old boy! Anyway back to Anita's latest sketches. These are really, really good Anita!! The 4 on the right look like belong to the Bolshoi, whilst the two on bottom left look like they are giving it attitude on the catwalks of London/Paris. Excellent work, can't wait to see these coloured!! |
