In the Onager Longhauler thread I mentioned how a GM I work with is needing stuff, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/post/95865/threadI mentioned the Roma Bender tents( cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/post/81884/thread )to him and he thought it might work. He'd like to see what I come up with, but he is mostly interested in pup tents. Also looking for a campfire and bedrolls (evidently something is supposed to happen when the gang is bedded down for the night). He also wants some clutter for around the campsite. cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/7468/halp-looking-campsites didn't do me much good, except to see what I needed. After working on the YRC Onager, I decided I had better get started. I went with sailcloth on the little tents, but I still haven't decided what to use on the large one. The campfire is from an internet search, and of course the fire ring is fitted to bravesirkevin's bases. I figure I'll throw a couple pup tents in the remaining space on the large tent page. For the bedrolls, I'll probably use Dryw the Harper's. In shep's HQ thread, cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/thread/9547/meddling-kids-hq, I got an idea on how to do the requested bundles, using the curved edges similar to the Airstream. Gotta try that idea next

Oddly enough, I just finished a fantasy campsite for my "Five Leagues From The Borderlands" warband: The scenario involved them being ambushed at dawn by nomads, so I needed the tents and fire. The tents are my own geometry textired with the sails from WWG's "The Maiden," and the bedrolls and fire are from WWG's CaveWorks (I added cotton to the doused fire for a steam/smoke vibe.)

I have that set. Part of this is taking part in a cave, though, so I doubt they will be carrying straw with them into the cave. I might take some other beds and round them off to look like bedrolls
Are your tents open on both ends?

Did some variations on beds from kris and WorldWorks to make bedrolls. Used grendelsmother64's Old Wagon Cover to texture a couple tents. The bundle experiment failed last night. Also used this fellow in the texturing Here's where I am at

Yes, open on both ends. Dry Twig season isn't due again for a few months, so the tents have no poles or lines yet. But they will. Oh yes, they will...

Well, knocked off work a little early today and started looking at what wagons I am going to build for the merchant caravan. Dug out the old Bastelbogen Online Roman wagon, and decided that it will be two of them. To match the size of Dryw's closed wagon, I had to bump it up by 25%. I said two. One slightly darker Third wagon will be grendelsmother64's Viking wagon, only with a hoop canvas top. Fourth will be a slightly modded version of Dryw's closed wagon. They will be pulled by a combination of lightning's recolors of the Xtea draft horses

Well, didn't realize I didn't have a spare yellow cartridge, and yellow ran out while printing out my first page.
I am going back to the Tudor Coach and see if I can get a decent EZ-Bild version.
My partial printed page was the Roman wagon, so I didn't get to print off the covered Viking wagon. I really wanted to see how it looks

I think the Viking wagon with a cover would be appropriate for the caravan

I did some prep on the Roman wagon, scoring, cutting out, and edging.
I knew that it was going to be a tight fit on the tabs on parts A and B, but they had to be trimmed ... quite a bit. The part is just too narrow for the tabs to fit
EDIT --
Did anyone notice the tetradkran in use in the image above?

The thing sits so high, I think I'm going to reduce it for the next ones. Found out last night, they need the camp by Sunday, so back to tents, etc. The merchant caravan is the following week or week after. 2 to 3 weeks for the cave

Hmm. Given the very nature of tents - why aren't there more fold-flat papercraft tents? I like the models I have and those here, but I just don't have the storage space. And RL tents compress very well! :-) mproteau (Paper Realms) has a building with a fold-flat roof that would make a great tent...

I was just trying to whip these out, but even as I was building them, I was thinking fold-flat. Even the Bender tents

They actually first hit the cave BEFORE they do the caravan and then come back to it. But since I already had my covered Viking wagon printed... Gotta let things dry before moving on with it, then I have to whip out stalagmites. I really hope this idea works. It does a nice job of capturing the wagons in the image above. I was looking for my illustrations of the medieval markets, because something similar is seen there. I already have worked on another version of this with plank sides. I really should try to do one with the ribbed bed. On it, the ribs will be closer together than should be, that way, I can have dark gray in between and I won't have to cut out the ribs.

Maybe VK should be Vehicular Krafts, except I do buildings, too. I only stuck the sides into the wagon instead of gluing to the outside. But I see that it needs to be taller. To look more like the harbor wagons, it needs to extend out the back a ways and have a driver box. I think that enlarging the piece to match the extensions will result in a proper height. I also want to bring the wheels in a bit. grendelsmother64 really has a fantastic recreation of the Osberg Cart, but I want to bring it a century or two more modern. I want it to look like it should fit in the harbor image.

I originally thought of using squirmydad's Rock Spires for stalagmites, but then I went on a search for other stalagmites. The ones in WWG Cave Works still don't look anything I've seen spelunking, but are much better than the Fat Dragon ones. So I tried to look for images I could use of real stalagmites and gave up on that when I thought I had a good idea. Stalagmites look like icicles sort of, only pointing up not down. Tried to grab the outlines of icicles, recolor the edges brown and fill with gradients of cream and reddish cream. Not just failed, but epically failed. Printing off rock spires now EDIT -- Eh, made up a mod sheet of the WWG stalagmites. That will have to be what I go with, these need to be done tonight and it is almost 7:30 now. If they aren't done in the next 24 hours, I don't see how I can finish the wagons and horses by Saturday

Where do I find grendelsmother64's Viking wagon? I could really use a few for my Dark Ages games.

I found a few images including that one, but I couldn't find enough similar ones to go that direction. I really liked my concept of the upside down icicles. I really wish it would have proceeded more smoothly

I want it to look like it should fit in the harbor image. I tried working on the Osberg Freight Wagon last night while the stalagmite halves were drying. Moved things around and I still don't see a way to add the driver box and extend the back without moving the canvas to a separate page. But I can put two covers on that page. I also want the freight wagons to have optional steerable front axles. I also started playing with the Roman cart/wagon. I think they use the word 'cart' for two and four wheeled wagons that don't have a steerable front axle, but I could be wrong. On the Roman one, I want it to be wider. I also added doors instead of the doorway being open

Took an extra 15 minutes on lunch today to finish these Now, I will have to concentrate on the wagons. I think that working out the format issues on the Freight Wagon will help that part to move more quickly

Well, the back end and adjusting the canopy was no big deal. Still trying to figure out how I want to do the driver box. I was originally going to do it as a piece that glues onto the front. That would mean adjusting the canopy somehow and not look stupid. My current idea is to have the front of the seat at the front edge of the cargo box, seat back inset. Foot board requires more thought. Here's where I'm at, except for the driver box. As far as the steerable front axle, I know I am going to have to come back and work it out, if I don't do it now. And I will be disappointed with what I send over to the guys. The flat-axle isn't going to work, so I think I am going to explore doing a capped pin. However I do it, I will need to do a somewhat shorter extension to the front. I know what I'm doing tonight

I believe this is down to working out the capped pin, but I will look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow I think I kept geometry correct through the changes, but I need to double check it tomorrow

I knew this wasn't right, but needed some time and fresh eyes to see what needs changed. It needed extensions to front and back, but they were too much. Need to knock 75 pixels off the front and 150 off the back. Rear wheels need to be larger by about 3%. The canopy on this one is getting cut off and a new one installed. The front edge of the canopy should start at the back of the driver seat instead of going all the way to the front of the sides. Even though this one looks odd, it will still be part of the six for the caravan. New canopy and larger rear wheels should salvage it. So my next iteration of this will give me four wagons. Then I will work on the wider version of the doored Roman wagon. I'm going to do one of those with the funky axle and side support thing and one with traditional axles

Didn't build the new shorter wagon, but did put the new canvas on the old one Makes a big difference, but still too long, I'll start work on the shorter version after work tonight
