Funnily enough, I spent days searching for something suitable, that I could tweak into corn rows. When someone pointed out the Halloween set I was overjoyed! Much less work to mod Jim's excellent work - I'm so glad squirmydad spent so much time restoring the files.

If you can make the lines even finer, that would be even better. The less distraction from the ground textures, the less break from immersion, the better. That's what I think, anyway.

I've already given a decent answer in this other thread with regards to "natural" grids. The Crooked Staff Publishing map tile series, Into the Wilderness free sample does the least intrusive grid I know. Fat Dragon used a leaf grid as a layer in the Ravenfell sets (especially the Mills ), but I find it more obvious/distracting than the simple lines or corner stars. Inked Adventures has done a great job of it in his outdoor sets, especially, but as they are all hand-drawn, they may be a less useful example. Best examples are these: Forest Cut-Up Sheets, Encounter Lairs 3: Forest Ambush, and Vexing Sands (desert tiles).

A last-minute entry, as I've finally managed to track down the photos from the Halloween Adventure I created and crafted last year. The photos are not the best, but at least now you can see what was intended by my Halloween Hoard entry ( Halloween Hoard 2). Picnic Adventures!
Halloween 2013 Special
CORNFLAGRATION of DOOOOOOOOOOOM!
The farmwitch Elianna wakes one autumn morning to discover a druid on her doorstep, her hired-hand halfling missing, and her cornfield contaminated with strange magics.
So much for celebrating a quiet harvest picnic with a few of the village children!
Ardrina, the druid, spins her tale of searching for her treacherous and sorcerous sister, Saruna, who is hell-bent on revenge against her former partner, the infamous halfling rogue Halute.
Involved in a heist for a magical artifact, Halute had an attack of conscience, and fled with the artifact rather than have it put to use in Saruna's nefarious plans...
The Picnic Adventurers' own rogue, Roger, hears the tale of a fellow rogue in trouble, and spurs his companions into action.
The Pumpkin Picnic will turn to Pumpkin Panic - unless our brave adventurers can defeat the monstrous beast at the heart of the Maize of Dooooooom!
Can they rescue Halute from the gaping maw of the Pumpkin Monster?
Will they be able to wrest the artifact from its controller, the Pumpkinmancer Saruna?
Tune in next fortnight for the continuing Picnic Adventures!
STARRING

I've run him through the Pathfinder Beginner Box solo adventure, we've played Dungeon! the board game, Dungeon Roll the dice game, drawn a few maps, made up (but not statted) a few creatures, started up a few stories, but tonight was the real thing. I brought him along to my FLGS tonight, expecting him to last an hour or so, while we played through Cragmaw Castle in the 5th Edition Starter Box. We'd talked about what character he'd like to start with, and decided on the pre-generated fighter-archer from the box set. He had a special d20 that he picked out after I ran him through the PFBB solo, and a full set of polyhedrals in fiery orange (Chessex Vortex Orange, to be specific). While he needed some reminders, and guidance, he had good ideas, and was engaged throughout the evening. He lasted all the way to the end, three-and-a-half hours later, and as you can see below, he had a blast! This is a big deal for him. He was just recently diagnosed with ADHD-Predominantly Inattentive (daydreamer, not troublemaker), as well as with learning disabilities in written expression. He's very imaginative and very bright; though only 8 years old, his reading comprehension level is at grade 10 level (i.e. twice his age). But the rest of it has been getting in the way of socializing, expressing himself verbally and most definitely in writing, and even in things like math. D&D is, in many ways, the perfect game to play to his strengths, and work on his weaknesses, having fun all the while. Tonight was a great night for it, too. We were playing the penultimate chapter in the 5th Edition Starter Set, Lost Mines of Phandelver, and there were just two other players (both with DMing experience) aside from us. We had the best DM possible - Scott is a wizard at bringing the action, the story, and the monsters to life. He's especially talented at goblin voices and expressions, and had G. engaged and in stitches all evening. Scott embodies a surviving gobbo with delusions of grandeur... G.'s now gotten his first treasure, his first XP, and a brand new organized play card to track it all. He'll be back next time as we finish Lost Mines of Phandelver; after that we'll play it by ear. He definitely won't be joining us on Wednesday nights, though, at least until we are down from 10 players sharing a single DM.

They were going to release a special preview of the flumph, but somebody (contrary to WotC's expressed wishes beforehand) uploaded a pic of the page to twitter :/
On the plus side, I discovered excellent free paper minis (full front and back art) for the flumph and other classic D&D monsters on Prodigy Duck's deviantArt page. (He also did ones for the full cast of characters of both The Guild and Acquisitions Inc.)

She looks great! Proportionally and pose-wise, and well-equipped; wildagreenbough has already said everything else succinctly. As my favourite class to play is rogue, and my favourite combat style is dual wielding daggers, I'm sure I'll be using her sometime soon Should you care to create a half-sized sister for her, I would use her as my 5th Edition Starter Box PC, Kyrie Applebottom, halfling rogue. Currently I'm either borrowing a halfling mini from my DM, or using my own prepainted Pathfinder mini of Lem the halfling bard. There's a dire shortage of half-pint paper minis... An alternate suggestion would be something resembling the thief character from Sierra's Quest for Glory series. I've been playing one version or another of mine, named Montresor, in every RPG I've played in, CRPG, MMORPG, or tabletop questforglory.wikia.com/wiki/Thief?file=ThiefHQManual.png or better yet a google image search for "Quest for Glory thief"

Terrific work, @gillius! But why Mixed Media instead of Papercraft in Action? The only thing I've spotted that _might_ not be pure paper are the minis' bases... (also posted to Facebook, but this is relevant for posterity )

*snip* ]I own the rights for the art, and I definitely don't have an issue with it. You guys are free to use and disseminate as you want. I would aks that you point people to Skirmish Tactics Apocalypse, though, if you think they might be interested in the game. In the meantime, I'll post all the other standup minis too if you all are interested. That's very generous of you; you'll certainly find an appreciative audience here! I spent a half hour checking out the game offerings on your site the other night, and while my hands are rather full right now learning D&D5E, I'll definitely revisit in the fall for another, deeper look. I've a couple of friends who might find this more up their alley than the fantasy I'm so deeply engrossed in right now...

The preview sepia PDFs were sent 3 weeks ago, for review before they sent them off to the printers last week: Update hereIf you haven't received them, contact them via email. I would have thought they'd be sending them out to paypal backers. I would guess that we'll be getting the finalized sepia PDFs very soon, then.

Terrific, gentlemen, I'm glad you beat me to the punch. I was pleased to see them finally expand into a scale I could finally make use of (well, without enlarging by 20%), and that they were tackling culture and architectural style currently unrepresented elsewhere, at least commercially. I'm also glad to hear that there is some layering available. These would work if I ever reproduced the great Conan-inspired Russian movie Wolfhound that I watched last week.

I have yet to see John Carter of Mars, but I'll try to get to it this week. I watched Big Trouble in Little China for the first time ever last week, thanks in large part to this thread (and well, beholder kin). So thank you, for finally getting me to see the joyful pulpiness that I always swore I'd get around to soon, but never did. In return, I suggest you try to track down Wolfhound, a Conan-inspired, Russian blockbuster. It was excellent, but it is hard to track it down on disc. Now I just wish I could find The Wizard of Mars...

As far as Barsoom goes, I started reading the series with the release of the Michael Whelan covers in 1979. There's also lots of great Barsoom art by Frazetta and others. They look terrific! Thanks for showing us further inspirational art... Is it just me, or are the 6-armed men the only people dressed at all?

wyvern, I guess I got nitpicky because hasturhasturhastur had spoken of trying out seasonal changes, and yellow/brown/orange leaves. And probably because I'm spending too much time reading the new PHB and having rules discussions on Facebook about the D&D Adventurers' League. I'm Neutral Good, usually EDIT: Thinking more on this, I think I really need to roll up a Chaotic Good Garden Gnome, and try out some of your ideas in the wild, wyvern

Greetings. I'm not familiar with this website or community, but I noticed this thread pointing to my website. Thanks for the interest. I don't really know what you mean by backs, but I did make paper standups for the characters at one point. Does this interest you all? Really amazing and evocative artwork you've done there! We mean that the paper minis our member/publishers produce usually present different artwork on each side, representing the front and back of the character/creature depicted. While some may use a mirrored image (like yourself), and some other paper mini producers may use silhouettes or grayscale renderings, most of us here prefer full back art - see OneMonk.com for work from our forum's founder, the current wizard, and forum members over the years. Your drawings are intricate enough that it would be a substantial challenge to do full back art for them, so I was being rather cheeky suggesting we could do it ourselves Thanks for sharing! You are more than welcome to join our merry band of misfits!

Since the CG is just for the backdrop it's fine. The main focus of the pictures is still on the minis and the interaction of the scenic elements. Brave AdventuresI'm glad that it will work out as is. I just remember last year, there was some hurt feelings over it - I'll be very happy to see that all avoided this year. I haven't read the rules all that closely, especially for the new mixed media category. Between my laser printer's dark and mis-colouring, and getting the kids ready for school, I may not have the time to do a proper job on my own, perhaps over-ambitious, project. Oh, and pavaro's right - the work on the new figures is so good, they certainly look 3D at this distance, even after a second look!

The roofs are actually attached but I haven't done any cover up work on the underside as the gaps of the roof are white so I haven't glued the edging down I'm debating whether to print and cut some textures to fit on the underside or to just do a solid color using paint or marker. Actually, those end flaps that you've left open at the ends are supposed to fold-under and be glued so there isn't any white showing on the outside of the model. It looks interesting the way you did it though, I might try a variation on it sometime. You could use some coloured paper or cardstock underneath, I've used that with much success on some models. Also, it doesn't weaken glue points the way additional ink/toner/marker can. And on the free cottage, I left one side of the roof unattached so it could serve as a gift box. I put in one of Dryw's wagons, a driver, and a couple of xtea's horses for my GM for the next time she runs a caravan protection encounter

A botanical question and point, if you will. Are the flowers growing up through the bush? Because no flowers would be blooming on a bush whose leaves were changing. Otherwise, I like it

While the models and minis look great together, I thought we established last year that there could be no cgi enhancements, just straight photographs? I'm afraid that for me, the added textures distract and detract from the quality of the scene itself.
