Free Basic releases now include an update of the first PDF (now called the Player's D&D Basic Rules). See below for the additions made. Also released for free are the Dungeon Master's D&D Basic Rules, which include a few monsters, tips on how to prepare balanced encounters, etc. They can be both be found here: dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrulesI skimmed through both current and original Basic Rules releases, compared them, and here are the only significant differences I’ve found (insignificant changes were the shuffling around of some tables, and a font change in one place). Additions: Background: noble (p40, BRPv.02) Wizard Spells | Cantrips (0 Level) | Acid Splash p82, 83 Wizard Spells | 3rd Level | Counterspell p82, p86 Appendix B: Gods of the Multiverse p107-108 Appendix C: The Five Factions p109-111 That should save you some time, some frustration, and some paper

Ah, I didn't know that. I never played with doll houses or trains, and I've also never build models for theatric purposes, so how could I know? Almost 5/8 of my life I've been a gamer, and before that I built models of planes in scale 1/72 and 1/144... 1/144 scale is becoming popular amongst the more insane dollhouse enthusiasts - dollhouses for dollhouses! - so you would already have something to start with

FANTASTIC!!! I might be interested in trying something a bit inspired by FDG tiles: 1) cut 1" foamcore holes in a 6" swamp tile. Anywhere on the tile would work, I suppose, but following the typical four spots that FDG uses seems like a smart move. 2) Use same technique as FDG to create cardstock covers for the hole. 3) Using a cardstock cover like in #2, cut a slit in it at some angle. Now, if the plants are designed like standees with a small tab at the bottom, it can slip into the cardstock cover to stay in place, and you have removable bits of scenery that you can move around or remove and store flat. If the cardstock isn't sturdy enough to hold the plant in place, attach the cover to the 1" foamcore that was removed and cut the slit right into the foamcore. That should be plenty sturdy. This reminds me of a Kickstarter I just saw, for resin terrain. There are base plates with 4-5 depressions in them, designed to hold scenery elements like rocks, crystals, trees, gravestones, etc.

I think this is a terrific way to look at adding the 3D aspect in a non-traditional way. Excellent out-of-the-box (or cross, as it may be) thinking!

shep 1/4" scale is an increasingly common scale for dollhouse miniatures (1/12 or 1-inch scale, 1/24 or Half-inch scale, 1/48 or quarter-inch scale in decreasing order of popularity), which is where I think this originates. 1/48 is also O-scale for model RRs.

For those wondering why I tagged who I did - they are duck lovers! Just like me - Donald and Daffy were definitely tops in my favourite character lists from their respective companies. okumarts David Okum’s Darkfast Classic Fantasy Bonus Set One: Fae is Fowl and Advanced Classes: Ducks are my older son's favourite minis. When he first saw Fae is Fowl, he started making up a skirmish game with them. stevelortz Steve Lortz’s Quatica: Battles for the Soul of Midle Aesopia, is a neat looking one from Skirmisher Games. Until recently, they had a free set of paper minis from it, but that’s no longer available from RPGNow ( dead link) and fatdragontom? well, he got me into this hobby, has a goofy sense of humour, needs to spend more time at our fantastic forum, and needs a distraction from the misery that is GenCon I really should have included Dryw the Harper, because his whimsical figures are what drew me over to the Cardboard Warriors in the first place, and he's been known to draw daffy characters too, and it's been far too long since he poked his head in... I better not add in anyone else... just enjoy the vid Oh, and dungeonmistress, I think it came up in one of the RPG Facebook things in my feed. I'm trying to get a handle on the 5th Edition rules, and it's more fun to learn by memes *spoiler alert* it's Daffy Duck in a Dungeons & Dragons delusion, in case you don't trust a random link *end spoiler alert*

I downloaded this the second I saw your post (well, within the first 5-10 minutes. RPGNow was deadly slow for some reason). Luckily it has landed in a quiet gaming week with neither D&D nor Pathfinder games scheduled, so I can have a peek at it! Heck, if I can get my printer to cooperate, I may even get a chance to play it!

Welcome, arcknight! I'm glad you've found us! I've been admiring the battlemaps you've been releasing this last month or so, and would have gotten around to inviting you here before another month was through. And that's before I knew you were going to be doing minis So, welcome, listen to the wise squirmydad, check out the onemonk basing style, but also Reivaj and bravesirkevin's variations as well. I prefer the latter, since they store flat, and the minis sit flat on the ground. And you are printing them on clear plastic, too? Reminds me of the guy doing shrinky dinks minis...

Actually watched a movie the other night which had a skirmish scene set in a marsh - Wolfhound, a Russian version of Conan, which also draws on Russian, Slavic, and Nordic folklore. It was really good! You can find it on blue ray sometimes, but it'd be nice if they stuck it on netflix...

Good job, Kevin, you've covered things succinctly, eloquently, and authentically, without getting emotionally involved. Could - not- have said it as well, much less better, myself.

The marshes - What you think about my new idea? Can be useful for cardboard world? Those tiles and especially the marsh vegetation look awesome, and will definitely be of use to the gaming papercraft community. I can see them as especially useful for Song of Blades & Heroes or Fur & Buttons...

LOL, do you know how busy this weekend has been? I took one look at the forums and knew I'd not have time to read a fraction of the many posts. I'm sorry I didn't take the time to even read the thread titles, though, since I missed this one. Although I've no particular need or use for a paper soldier, I just like your work

WackyAnne: I gather some copies of the Starter Set were released to a few select stores yesterday too, but of course the official release date isn't till the 15th. You can find some Starter Set teaser extracts among the Daily D&D news releases if you can't wait though After a skim through the Basic Rules, I could be tempted by the main rulebooks I think, probably after checking them out in the games store first. It's that anniversary thing... Oy! Another reply eaten by the system... I pre-ordered my copy of the starter set at my FLC&GS, Strange Adventures instead of at the WotC-linked LGS, Gamezilla. The answer to why is in the "F" - better experience @ Strange Adventures, friendlier people, one of their employees is the Pathfinder Society Venture Lieutenant for the province, they supported Free RPG Day again this year (the day I chose for pre-ordering the Starter Set), and their prices are US MSRP. Gamezilla, on the other hand, is overwhelmingly MTG, WH40K, and assorted anime stuff, skipped FRPGD2014, and charge ~25% more for their books (they also don't mark their prices, so you find out at the cash). So, I'll be waiting a little longer, for my Starter Set... but I may pick up a second copy at Gamezilla because it looks like they will be running Encounters/Adventurers League... Wow, what a difference a month makes. Since just before that post, I've been playing twice a week at Gamezilla, finishing up Dead in Thay (using play test rules, at level 7-8) with the existing crowd, and playing in the Starter Box adventure on Mondays. Having a blast, and now that we've taken a week or two break while our organizer DM heads down to attempt a few TPKs at GenCon I'll finally get a chance to really read the rules. Picked up the Players Handbook from the store to support them for having a great place to play every week for free. It was 15% off for pre-ordering it there; so passed up Amazon.ca & Chapters.ca 50% special.

Vermin King I'm not sure David's even online this weekend. He said he was going to spend a week at his cottage to decompress & reconnect with his family, before jumping back in with both feet.

They look fabulous, Nemo, but of course they would. I'm picking them up this weekend - and going to finally track down a printshop that will do them, and the tiles, the justice they deserve. My printer is not worthy...

Thanks for putting this on RPGNow! I think I see more than a couple of the 24H exclusives that you've shared with us. I lost a couple of those when my hard drive crashed back in February, so I'm extra happy to support you by picking this up.

Both of my parents were English Teachers, my mother just recently became a published author. Proper graemmer 'n spillin has allus ben impotent in ma house. Sometimes I write "cut-file". My mother was a professor of English and American Literature, but it's my dad who is the grammar-nazi. Correct spelling and grammar is very deeply ingrained in my psyche ... my OCD-tendencies take over at times... like when I see "rouge" for "rogue", or the misuse of "decimate" when "devastate" is meant. I'm not nearly as bad as my dad, who I think dismissed Star Trek (TOS) on the basis of their famous split-infinitive, and believes that the advent of texting presages the apocalypse... or at least the fall of the American Empire...

I'd just like to add that if you are looking for some cool Mummies to use with the skeletons you should probably check out the Egyptian set by our long-missing brother-in-arms Jabbro Jones. It's likely to be a long while before I get around to doing my own and he did a fantastic job of them. On the subject of him, does anyone know what became of him? John BrozI'm a huge fan of Jabbro's work, and have tracked down and printed off a good many minis of his, but as he left before I joined, I couldn't possibly pester him to return ;(

Only my second KS, so am no expert, but are the last couple of days always this crazy Not always, but successful ones seem to be. At least since the innovation of "stretch goals" - Think about it - should I invest early or wait until I can see the how much stuff I'm REALLY going to get? Watch the $1 pledges turn to "all stretch goals included" pledges in the last 2 days. There's a little star-shape you can click on, just to the bottom left of the Kickstarter video. That's so you can be reminded 48 hours before the end of the campaign, and lets those that were curious to come back and support it if they find the project is still or more compelling than before. That's why there is almost always a big burst of support at the end, and it can get really crazy. Some campaigns might even double their numbers in the last 48 hours! I was very happy to see David's get so far, so fast! I knew his stuff was great, knew he had lots of fans, and lots of ideas, but I never guessed it would do so well. Maybe Kickstarter is helping papercraft finally come into its own? With @fat Dragon Tom's 5 successful campaigns (the last outdoing the first four combined!), BSGTony (lordzsezse)'s, and now okumarts', and print-and-play demos and add-ons featured in other campaigns, it really looks like it.

My husband's a computer and network technician, so that part wouldn't be the issue (though thanks!). I'm going to have to put up with it for a while tho.
Warm Acre has has interesting British emergency vehicles and buildings - but you may notice I pointed you to Wargame Vault, since they have ore stuff on there than on RPGNow.

This cracked me up. You can't imagine how I fought to follow the convention of "Cutfile:" on the posts in the automated cutter forum... then I had some that were "cutfile:" and some that were "Cutfile:" so I went and fixed them. Then I noticed I spelled out a number in one title, and used numerals in the others... Then I found out there's a limit to the length of the title, and had to drop the "Cutfile:" prefix. Now I'm tempted to relabel them again. LOL. I've got issues - I will freely admit that. At first, the phrase "Is there cutfiles" irked me, but now it makes for an easy phrase I can search for to get back to the topic. Alternatively, I could create a new topic that I use to index Okumarts cutfiles. I like that idea. And just for you, cowboyleland, I will name it "Yes, there is cutfiles for any of Okumart's minis!" I must admit to a tendency to renaming all my files for consistency among them. It sucks when I realize there's a better way to put it, and am tempted to rename vast swaths of files.

Gas spore! love 'em BTW, 5th is trying something different from 4th, in that "low level" beasties won't lose their relevance past low PC levels. I forget the specific term, and only have a couple minutes so will let you look it up in the free Basic Rules I'm having a blast with it so far!

Much of WWGs pre-TLX stuff is available for sale at Paizo.com. Look it over carefully, though, as some things like Hinterlands are in two sets, and others, like the minis, are much more expensive @ WWGs own site.
As for other modern streets, there are several options. I believe Warm Acre has some, and another contemporary mostly battlemap maker whose name escapes me at the moment. I'll have to get back to you when I'm at my computer next. My laptop needs a new screen. ;(
