Sounds like you are getting it worked out. 'Hatch cover folded back' solves the issue of needing to cover the hole for photos

The area I would be covering is the bottom of the ramp. The easiest solution to that is making a duplicate wall panel, which slots into place

Solved the upper platform, although it will require a slight adjustment to the top of the original dice tower. Will start work on this tomorrow

Prepping the platform and courtyard. Top row: Side walls and gate wall from the historic dice tower. The side walls attach to the tower by the tab at the tallest point and stuck to the base. The gate wall fits in the shorter end of the courtyard. These have been backed with 2mm mounting board. The outer walls will stick directly onto these with side tabs on the gates covering the joins. Bottom row: The platform from the historic dice tower with modified hatch, cut down to fit. Inner walls from the Venetian watchtower. Base from the historic dice tower. The outer walls from the Venetian watchtower will be fitted to this platform and the inner walls trimmed and stuck to the inside. All parts will be edged in grey before assembly.

The underside of the platform. The underside texture is from the Venetian watchtower. The hatch has been cut straight through and the corner brackets replaced by a frame. This frame will fit over the top of the tower. This is the method used on the Historic dice tower. For a more Venetian look, I replaced the wooden socket frame with trachyte edging, to match my Riva.

Ramps in place. The slight distortion will be corrected when the base is completed. The white area is only visible when the top is off

Both would be appropriate. I think the lack of green around the streets of Venice encouraged flora motifs inside. Seen that occasionally. There are several times I have seen paintings of birds, and they had a lot of them from the taxidermist. I don't recall seeing birds on wallcoverings, but I imagine it probably happened. It 'feels' right any way

Maybe our hat lady received them as a love token from a wealthy merchant.

I want to make some gondola poles for my carnevale table. I acquired some 5mm diameter paper straws from KFC with the swirl pattern. I just need to work out how to recreate these finials (or something close enough). In a moment of madness, I rescued a 70mm diameter carpet tube with the same pattern to store my water mat. Any ideas on recreating this finial to fit a 70mm tube?

Wrap the end in blue, then make some thin gold strips to wrap around that. Put a blue circle cap on the end and make a gold standee of the top ornament

Gondola pole update. My wife found some pre-coloured straws for my gondola poles. The proportions match the TT Combat ones but I may need to add a thin red stripe between the blue ones before detailing.
