I just printed out and cut my very first paper flats - The Retro Space Invaders set, and they are firkin' awesome! If you happen to be kicking around design ideas, then a few Morbo-esque ("This Island Earth" 1955) guys might be a nice addition. Thanks for choosing my Invaders! I love that set. I created that set in one day. That's rare for me. It usually takes MUCH longer. I thought I'd share an original list of mini sets I'd been contemplating long before the release of the first set. I only recently found them hidden in my papers (I was looking for something else, of course). 1. Space Amazons 2. Martians 3. Space Patrol 4. Alien Monsters 5. Rocketship 6. UFO 7. War Rocket 8. The Imperiax 9. Imperiax Court 10. Rocket Jockeys 11. Killer Robots 12. Sidekicks 13. Mole People 14. Cult of Thrax 15. G-Men 16. Rocket Men 17. Winged Terrors To be fair, I have no idea what some of those sets would even be now.

Interesting to see the thinking behind the process. I recon that #4 is a solid choice all around, as there as just so many awesome 50s (and earlier) monsters to choose from. Giant ants, Robby the Robot, Gort, and whatever the hell this is: So much retro pulpy goodness out there! Did any of you guys ever read "Dan Dare - Pilot of the Future" - Very British, but with one of the greatest alien bad-guys of all time - The Mekon!

That first one is Robot Monster from the movie of the same name. ShadowCory recently did a model of this low budget monster, www.papermodelers.com/forum/design-threads/38792-robot-monster-build.html

Awesome! Robot Monster, huh? How did they come up with such an innovative name?

Anything Sci Fi, Space, Robots or Monsters was selling out theaters back then, so they just lumped things together and churned out one of the worst movies ever

David, perhaps you should try to get your hands on some »Perry Rhodan: Peacelord of the Universe« stories (published in the US between 1969 and 1979) or have a look here: www.perry-rhodan.us/Perry Rhodan is the longest running science fiction dime novel series in Germany. The first stories were published weekly in 1961, recent issue of the 1st edition is No. 2921, and the series is considered the most successful SciFi-Novella series in the world. It also spu various spin-offs and a total of 5 reprint-editions... I'm pretty sure, you'd find loads of inspiration in those booklets.

I read some Perry Rhodan back in the 80s. So? Did you like it? I my self read some in the 90's and early 2000's. However, Perry Rhodan is German popculture, even if you don't read it, you know at least something about it... For example that up until today no decent movie or tv show of PR has ever been produced... ^^

I managed to find an anthology of a few small novellas. At the time I thought they were neat, but I'll be honest, I don't remember anything about them today. I do remember that it was set in the 1970s and it was all futuristic and stuff, not the 1970s I was living in.

Yeah, that's just like watching UFO or Space1999... It's the promise of a future that for us has gone by without happening...

When I ran an attempt at a Retrospace RPG I set it in the "amazing future of 1980"!

Ever read the GURPS supplement "Tales of the Solar Patrol"? Should be tons of ideas there for miniatures.

I loved the Bikers, so I had to create an Armored Troop Transport Vehicle to carry my Slork Troopers in. Here is my mobile Slork Attack Force.

When I was younger I had a force in my comic Galactic Wars called the EWA (East/West Alliance). These guys were similar to what I was drawing then. It's neat to see them on someone else's game table. That's also a really cool troop transporter. Cool design.
