I love spiral staircases, that's a gorgeous setup.

Gonna need some fancy Egyptian-style sarcophagi cases if this style of body-wrapping takes off

That's probably beyond my capabilities

I doubt that. Your capabilities are pretty dang strong, sir
Of course you would have to lose some of the roundness of Egyptian Sarcophogi, but by texturing your basic coffin, you could have a pretty good mock-up. Having the head and upper torso as a separate laminated layer (as well as the feet sticking up), you could make a pretty good one.
But your interests might not be in that direction

OK, filming is done, editing is (mostly) done - and with any luck I'll get the voice-over done tomorrow

More stuff on the workbench... Or what I did with a wall-of-skulls texture during the Covid outbreak. :-P :-)

Just checked them out - and they look really nice
Also - yeah, I do try to simplify my stuff (probably too much at times) - as 'quick & easy' is my aim (just to get more stuff on the tabletop).

I need to get better at 'simplify'. Unless it says EZ Bild, my stuff is not as simple as I would like.

This is a good way to make torch and candle, etc., flames as well (leave the top part white, or colour it grey for a smokier flame). Or indeed lit campfires and fireplace ones. The cast resin terrain company Dwarven Forge used small painted cotton wool tufts for the flames in the lit torches in their original dungeon sets, for instance, while many tabletop wargamers have been using exactly the same stuff, in larger amounts, for gunsmoke and explosions for decades. You may find it works better with a less glossy-finish glue, like PVA, but I realise you're addicted to the hot glue gun now!

I've done the tea-light + cotton wool (and a bit of black spray paint) thing in the past for wargame 'explosions' (or to signify tanks that are out of action) - as it works really well But for the print & paste stuff (and stuff like this that accompanies it), my aim is to make everything as quick/cheap/easy as possible (using minimal tools ...and no paints if I can get away with it - so there's very little 'drying time'). But I agree, a better look could definitely be achieved if you got the shape done first, smeared it in PVA, and then painted it with a nice colour scheme (as other folks have done) - but my aim is to get something done and on the table in less than 5 minutes - which is not always a good stance to take ...but ideal for us busy game masters

kris, as you are the resident expert with corrugated cardboard, I wanted to ask you a question. I'm doing a treasure chest for my grandson's birthday that is 3 1/2 inches X 5 inches, and 4 1/2 inches tall. I was going to try lining it with cardboard, only I think I wasted part (thankfully not glued). On the vertical parts, the corrugation tubes should run vertically, correct? I had them going horizontal, but as I was getting ready to glue the first piece, it occurred to me that I was doing it wrong, probably.

For optimal strength (of the edges) I sometimes have the corrugation running diagonally - if that's what you meant.
But if I need a fold I try to go in line with the corrugation (i.e. fold between two of the 'stripes').

I really got lucky in that after I posted this I had four light bulbs go out in the house. The box the bulbs were in is corrugated cardboard, but pretty thin. Not enough for the whole treasure chest, but enough for the main box. The lid will either be lined with scraps left from this box on the center, or traditional corrugated card. The ends of the lid will be lined with traditional.

So much to see.
And all of it wonderful
EDIT --
I thought I could drop in a trinket to what you alluded to. It must be on the old computer's hard drive still, because I haven't found it on this one, but at one time I had a bunch of the Snow White playsets and paper dolls, and in one of the sets, the dwarfs were heading to work with their shovels and picks. But a quick search isn't turning them up.

The kind of thing where you'd wrap tabs around the figure to change outfit etc.?

I don't remember if it was one of those (paper doll) or if it was from one of those punch-out/press-out/cut-out books with the one-sided minis. I was thinking it was the latter, because (from memory) I think there was one mini that had one dwarf pushing and one dwarf pulling a mine cart, with Dopey taking a nap on top. I wish I could find this again

kris, so the idea is you could change the look of a street by swapping building panels?
|
|
|
Post by kris on Sept 18, 2020 0:58:15 GMT -9
Well, walls of any kind really (I'll probably be using them for making building interiors myself - maybe just a few walls like the example above, and the rest being regular 2.5D tiles for the sake of playability). This kinda thing (but for inns, taverns, cottages, etc. - rather than 'dungeons'):
But yeah, the idea is that you'd only need to make a couple of the new pieces, and then just swap a window panel for a door panel and so on - to make different building layouts.
