The best prop I ever made was a severed head for a guy in Treasure Island. The director wasn't sure what to do about the scene (the pirate runs off....then his head rolls back on)...she was thinking about cutting it. But seeing as I was the one who was suppose to pick it up and deliver the funniest line in the whole play, I offered to make it (and the other actor was willing to let me try to make a plaster cast of his face). The whole thing was done on the cheap by basically making a mask with surplus silicone caulking....then building up layers around a styrofoam wig head with caulking and attaching the mask. It turned out better than I expected. Because it was mostly silicone, the thing bounced around the stage like crazy...but miraculously it came to a stop every single night right at my feet. All I had to do was pick it up and say "He's dead...?!?!" Got a huge laugh every time. The guy asked me if he could keep his head after the show was done. He keeps it on a shelf in his office....he'a child psychologist...he counsels troubled teens... GM64

I kinda like the fog bank. And it fits in with Norse Mythology. Plus as a back I think it looks kinda cool... Helja02b by grendels_mother64, on Flickr (And I'm not really sure I want to do much more work on her...a horde of tormented souls is a whole other project....) GM64

Here's another WIP: Hel or Helja....goddess of the icy underworld of Norse Myth: I did borrow a bit from Marvel...and a bit from Smite... Not sure how I'm going to make her stand up....maybe a bank of icy fog...? GM64 Edit: Maybe like this?

I am actually in Ottawa these days but I grew up in Smiths Falls (half way to Kingston if you don't want to google it.) My stage fight business partner spent many years in Stratford working with Paddy Crean. That is a fun name to look up on wikipedia. Paddy Crean is the stage fight god. So you have a stage fight business....very cool.

It's not exactly a "festival". More like the season run of one really big theatre company. They do a handful of Shakespeare plays, a few "related" plays, one or two big musicals, and a few smaller artsy plays over the whole summer. From May until October actually. They own 3 theaters (one seats over 3,000) and have a company of about 100 actors....and the biggest, coolest warehouse of costumes on the planet. Google "Stratford Festival"....they're pretty big. My wife is the costume head for a smaller professional theater company in a nearby town (run by the guy who use to be Stratford's dance/fight captain), but she knows all the costume folks in Stratford, and often has run of their costume warehouse to get rentals. I find any excuse to come along (to "help carry stuff") when she goes....it's like the best toy store on the planet. I gush.... So Cowboyland....You're from down the St. Lawrence way are you...? A few hours down the 401...? Cool.

Living near Stratford definitely did. The cool thing is that locals get all kinds of perks at the Festival....especially if you're into that sort of thing. I haven't paid anything close to full price for a ticket in years.

I live the other side of Stratford Ontario from Okum (I'm guessing I'm about an hour drive from Mr. Okum) Stratford is named after Shakespeare's home town=....and is itself home to a big Shakespeare festival every summer. As a matter of fact, I'm going to see As You Like It on Sunday.
(I grew up in London Ontario, BTW...and for a long time I worked in a small town called Clinton, Ontario...)
So, small world. At least at 100 km/hr it is...

Gonna have to redo the cutfiles for the storm troopers. Got them started today by following the black lines, but the sides don't line up well enough for that to do the figures justice. I'll follow the middle of the grey borders instead... Well, the grey lines are suppose to be the outline. That's why the black line is so thin. In my eyes, a lighter outline makes the figure stand out more....you don't lose the detail of the original outline in a mass of black. I suppose if you want a black outline, you could photo-fill the grey line black....

There were several Vintage papercrafts like that over at bibigreycat.blogspot.com/, but I'd hate to go through a thousand pages to find them It seems like I remember that style in a set for a circus, too. Tonight I'll try to find some sources. Also, if you use the Wayback Machine, Canon used to have a series of kids' models called 'Animals of ...' I think it was the Canon set. Edit: Yup....nice catch. Canon Creative ParkI think those are a decent approach to creating some quick and easy almost 3d animals...

OK, now, I'm really done. Seeing as this is Robots vs Power Armor, I decided I really had to do some robots. So here's some Battle Droids. But they fought the Clone Troopers. So I had to do some Clone Troopers. And then it took me a while to figure out how to export decent JPGs from my ancient copy of CorelDraw. So some major layout experimentation was in order. Anyway....here's the results: Clone Layout Final by grendels_mother64, on Flickr Trooper Layout Final by grendels_mother64, on Flickr OK, so now I'm done. Hope you like, GM64 Edit: I've been messing with the flickr share options because for some reason I can't see these images. I think it's fixed now.

Simple, chunky, and easy on the ink. Just gotta finish the backs and play with the scale a little. GM

Not only that, you got the gun mount to work too I see.
I was so proud of that model. Got the inspiration from my 1920s Singer sewing machine....which I used just this afternoon to make a liner for a WWI helmet so it can be worn in a play.
Nice work VK.

Hobbies....? Teenage girls. Hang on...that didn't sound right. I mean hanging out with my daughters...who are mostly into theatre. I've been doing a lot of work in community theatre in the the props, sets and costumed departments....and been on stage a little. All things that do share a skill set with RPGs and paper figs (except maybe the teenage daughters part) At the moment my middle daughter (who is 14) wants me to go to Free Comic Book Day in costume with her. So I'm working on something simple for that...Captain Mal likely. And she thought we should bring a duffle-bag full of nerf guns with us and start an impromptu nerf war in the line. She is the middle child.... GM
