Thanks for the head's-up: A few years back, I bough some One-page rules and some miniature files, but they were only fronts. They seem have come a long way since then. Good stuff!

We would need a theme for 'Around the Castle' still How about an old school D&D theme? By that, I mean castle dungeon themed, as opposed to caves, villages and over expanded setting. I know it can seem a bit limited and the world is chockablock with dungeon tiles and furniture, but maybe it could wrack a few brains and kindle some deeper, darker imaginations...

December is the birth month for both Walt Disney and General Custer, perhaps a Merry Melodies version of Steamboat Willies Last Stand? Oooh, the thought of that sanctimonious little rodent being stuck full of arrows is just too appealing!

This upcoming May marks the 225th anniversary of the Irish Rebellion against Britain. May 4th is also Star Wars Day. I propose May be "Rebel Scum" or maybe "Acts of Rebellion" And I just realized I punned with 'May be' and 'maybe' *eyeroll* If you're using "rebelling against/gaining independance from British rule" as a theme, then I think you'll have just about every month of the year covered...

With regards to the "not so crisp" issue. When I was printing a few sheets every couple of weeks or so, the prints seemed a bit faded, when compared to my old printer. However, once I started banging out more, more often, the print ups are now darker. Another feeble excuse solid reason for lots of printing.

Here are some special tiles and overlays. They are meant to be copy/pasted to another file to make it worth printing up lot of extra tiles in one go. The red, green and yellow bordered ones are to be copy/pated over other tiles. For example, I would make an A4 page full of the basic floor tiles. The I would paste over the various special tiles on to them. That would give me all my special tiles on one sheet. I then cut out them from the print-up, about a millimetre (0,04" for our rebellious colonial cousins), go over the edge with a black marker, then stick it to the main tile piece. It is practically not noticeable that it has been stuck on afterwards. For the chevron, the red, green and yellow bordered tiles, I open in Paint and use the "spraycan" to scatter white dots over the tile. I then copy/paste with transparent background over the tile I want to modify, to get a worn look. As it says in the image, the tiles are 30 mm square at 96dpi. The same goes for all the NSH tile files. Here's one I did earlier, compared to an unmodded tile. Oh yeah, I also emboss a groove between the squares, to give a sort-of 3D effect.

OK, so that completes "the set", if you are going for a Space Hulkesque type game.
From the interwebs, I'm pretty sure that for a 1st edition Space Hulk style game, you would need the following tiles: 6x straight 5x1 8x straight 4x1 4x straight 2x1 5x dead-end 8x T-junction 6x +-junction 6x corner 2x room, 3x3, 3 doors 3x room, 3x3, 2 doors (90*) 1x room, 3x3, 1 door
For the initial tile sets, I have kept them relatively free of embillishments, such as decoration, debris, detritus, damage and so on. Things like litter, stains and damage, I tend to add afterwards my self, such as colouring oil, slime, blood and other bodily-fluids with pens, litter with paper scraps and stuff like wire, and damage by, well, damaging the tile.
I am putting together a "decoration" sheet, which will have tiles with things like markings and hazard marks and different types of tile such as grating, hatches and cover and so on.
I have made up about a third of the complete basic set, but ran out of cereal/pizza box type card - I'm trying to get my boy to finish a box of Rice Crispies, but he says he's full. Lightweight!
Once I have the set, I'll post some photos.

Well, after a long hiatus, a few false restarts and too much other life things, I finally got back to these. I have been playing aorund trying to get the right look. The very first tiles I did, I used LibreOffice Draw, saved them to PNG and did some more editting in Paint (both MSPaint and KolourPaint depending on which PC I was using at the time). Then I played around with them in GIMP. This gave me a pixelly 1990s printed look that I liked. Since them, whenever I tried to recreate it, my images come out way too clean looking. So, I went back to the original files and used them as the basis for the latest itteration. So far I had done three sheets: The basic 3-square, 4-square and 5-square long corridors, with no decoration. I have a set up "special tiles", with things like gratings, grips, chevrons and so on. I will make a nice tidy sheet with these on in the next few days. In the mean time, here is the first three basic sheets: NSH Corridor 3sq NSH Corridor 4sq NSH Corridor 5sq (NSH = Not Space Hulk)

Punkrabbitt rredmond Thank you good sirs! I got the email of acceptance (sounds like a level two magic-user spell) yesterday, but since I wasn't home, I haven't been able to get to the forum. When I made the application to join, it did ask who you knew on the forum, so I had to reply that I didn't really know anyone. I guess it's a good job I use the nom de guerre alloydog pretty much everywhere (and have done do for over 20-years!). I look forward to joining in over there.

Can anyone recommend a good forum that deals with the B/X D&D (red Basic & blue Expert) rules? I found, or rather refound the Dragonsfoot forums. Just in time for the inaugural meeting of The Cabin in the Woods games club.

Dunno about "overdone", but these are great - still simple. Harks back to the early days (well, early for me, '70s/80s), when you only had a few different figure poses, so your army was pretty much several dozen similar figures.
I don't know how you do these, like do you use layers for certain details? For example, just by changing the helmet and shield styles, maybe the weapon style too, but still keeping the figure pose the same, you could get Roman, Greek, Norse and so on.
