The beautiful Nemo/Grenadier miniatures have Dwarves riding bears in the Fantasy Warrior system. And since it is a game very much played in Italy, it makes sense. A good system btw. An image of a 1989 mini: www.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/grenadier/images/0914.jpgAh, Italian, that makes sense. The creator of the Song of Blades rules lives in Italy so undoubtedly the bear-mounted dwarves would be familiar to him.

I like the image of ram cavalry, ram chariots, and war wagons with Dwarven musketeers being pulled by Giant rams. A Dwarven winged Hussar sounds pretty funny, are there any pictures around of that sculpt? I just noticed in the Song of Blades roster they have Dwarves riding bears...huh. Odd image that.

Here is a suggestion along Floyd's lines. Why not provide a full sheet with a texture and layers on top with each base as a PNG. That way you can have the white space and the cutouts in the center, and depending on what layer you have on, is which one will print. This way you can use the same PDF template and just change the bottom layer each time you have a new style. If you want, I can work up something for you. This is exactly what I have for my base creation master-layout file.

The poll wouldn't allow me to answer this question the way I wanted to so here's the longer version of what I use; Square; 20mm, 25mm - for rank and file troops in army blocks. Circle; 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 - the 25mm circles get the most use Rectangle; 25x50 - cavalry bases Pill; 25x50 - non-cavalry horse-like and other creatures. I also use the hex-flat bases, but only for the small collection of starships I have and I made my own starfield texture for them. I think you should leave up the blanks for all the sizes as DIY bases are very easy to do for people who want a particular style and texture combo that they don't see.

Thanks for stopping by, I do try to keep the place tidy. I should probably find some kind of guest book app for the archive.

Xtea; I've put together a pdf of six draft horses on the same page and also built an automaated cutting file for them. Should I send this to you or just upload it to my site?

Agreed, no humans = paradise So I take it you've been to Detroit? You're opinion may change after visiting what was a major industrial city.

Excellent! I'll be converting these to gsd format tonight. And now a question about cavalry...would dwarves ride horses? Perhaps young dwarves would venture about on sturdy mountain ponies? Or would dwarves forgo cavalry for something more stolid like war wagons to serve as mobile fortresses with the occasional heavy chariot to act as line-breakers?

Very nice and handy! Hmm, I have some papermodel wagons floating around here somewhere, this definitely makes me want to finish them and get them uploaded.

No texturing necessary! The light+shadow+coloring on this mini are wonderful! Thank you very much, they'll go great with Dryw's wagons. ;D

Thanks, it made for good fun. I've also used the same idea to create a short intro piece for another video project of cartoon snowflakes falling. They'll be the backdrop for a title sequence. I guess I'll upload that tonight. edit> Uploaded Snowflakeswww.youtube.com/watch?v=VDZYQBBP0uM

JP Trostle has added another free game to his site; I've decided to celebrate the new year by releasing another free set of rules from the vault. This is an earlier design of mine - a quick, easy miniatures game for use with the MicroMachines Z-Bots, or any other toy robots you might have.
I was always a big fan of Comedy Central's Battlebots, and fondly remember Rivets (the old fighting robots boardgame from Metagaming). A decade ago, when I came across a bunch of Z-bots for sale, I decided to come up with a short set of rules for them that captured the fun mayhem of cute robots destroying each other.
Warbots fits that bill. You can download the rules, player sheets, and 16 sample warbots here.japenet.net/japenetgames.html

The trick to getting exact mirror images, and it's what was in MelEbbles original tutorial, which is now gone, was to only import the top half of a miniature and do your auto-trace on that. The copy, paste, mirror vertical, move the cutting paths down into alignment. Which gives you a perfect mirror image for your cutting paths. Do you copy and past inside the tracing program or on the main page? If I can figure that out I may be able to join the lines in the middle. I have become pretty good at editing within the tracer. If you get something better with Paprika, let me know. Maybe if we both go at this from different angles, one of us will hit the jackpot. Copy and paste inside the main window, not the tracing dialogue window. I know oyu can add and delete anchors in both windows, but what I really want is to be able to cut or break a polyline and that feature doesn't exist. I made some figures last night as dxf imports with some success, at least I had more control over the lines when I got into laying them out in RoboMaster, but it took a long road to get them there. Still trying to find a shorter cleaner path...

Thank you for your comments, it does help in encouraging me to finish various sets. Who knows, maybe I'll finally get my Northmen Warriors (in Viking style) finished and laid out. And then, who knows what I'll try next. Dryw the Harper Fantasy vikings or a more historical look? Either way, thanks in advance! ;D

Those two guys look like they'd go well in a Pulp game too. Explorers trapped by albino gorillas in the Avacado Temple of Doom.

My son is wanting to play with stop motion so I had to test out this software before I start teaching it to him. Watching the video again I can see my hand reflected in the back tapping the mouse for each frame, next time I'll use a better background.

I usually use the top half and shrink it about 3 pixels to make sure the cutter cuts into the black without risk of lopping off random bits of figure. I usually leave the base at full size. If anyone knows a trick for duplicating cut lines, top to bottom in RoboMaster, I'd be really grateful. Ive been taking the top sillouette in a BMP and mirroring it to the bottom and then importing the image to outline in RoboMaster. Unfortunately the program does not trace things the same way for both halves all the time. It's those darn bezier curves, curse you Bezier! Unfortunately, it also gives you a center cut-line instead of a score-line so you end up with two halves instead of one whole. Mel likes this method, I don't. The little variations in the auto-trace cut-path are very easy to take care of with the occasional slice or just a dab from an edging marker. If I understood DXF file types betterI believe you could make an front face silhouette of a miniature in Photo-whatever-shop, import into a 3d modelling program, export as an autocad/dxf file, import that in Robomaster where it becomes a collection of lines, delete the center cut-line, group the rest, copy-paste-mirror-align-add center score-line for a perfect mirror image. I can export from Pepakura as a dxf and import that type of dxf into Robomaster, that's how I lay out my models these days. Getting an image silhouette into Pepakura to export as a dxf has so far eluded me. I'll have to try it again when I get some free time this week.

Well, yes and no... Since Jabbro took over the Forum Hoard compiling job (thanks bro!) the last two months Hoards have come with GSD files. The Ancient Dragon is from Jabbro's set and I sent him my modded file a while back, don't know if he amended the RPGNow file with it or what. The Elves and the Undead, as well as a large assortment of fantasy modelsets are also done, but...One-Monk is redoing a great deal of his store setup and how he packages his models; onemonk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=inprogress&action=display&thread=1665So I have the GSD files for tons of things, I have to wait until Jim reposts the models with their new layouts so that I can match the GSD layout to the pdf layout. I suppose I could post the GSD cutting path files (as they have no value without the associated pdf) and let savvy RoboMaster users like yourself match the paths to the images. Jim is scheduled to relaunch everything in January though and then myself and LordManimal will be working like banshees to get the GSD files set up. ;D

The software is available free here; www.silhouettemachine.com/faq.aspxI can send you master template layout with registration marks based off of what Ebbles Miniatures uses for his GSD layouts. It really help to have everything that needs to be cut already placed inside the boundaries of the cutting area as defined by the area inside the registration marks. That area is about 7.5"x9.5". Even if you don't want to go to the trouble of setting up the paths yourself, having your pdf laid out to be compatible from the start is a big help for the conversion crews. I would be happy to test any files for you. ;D
