A story or narrative approach can help make for a stronger entry, but it's not necessary for success. So no, it's not an entry requirement. The entry should have a title though like "Space dungeon underwater hellscape of doom". Sorry for my missing some of the specific details, this is my first time writing the rules for this showcase.

Ooh, I love that one. He emailed me back when he was working it up for a contest so I could read through his progress thread. He actually scaled it down to 1/1200th scale so it would fit on a cd, then built terraced gardens inside, opened up the gate and built an interior, added trees, really amazing mini work. Here's his presentation thread; Martian VillaIt's funny, I've been thinking about my SGOM models the past few days, particularly the unfinished ones.

Just for clarification, may a building by itself be submitted (multi piece of course) or may a building only be submitted as part of a set with figures or as part of a diorama? I would think a building would fall into the model set category, unless it was a 2D flat wall like a paper miniature. Dioramas; Yes, include three good pictures in the submission post. You can also include a link to a photo gallery of the other fifty pictures you took, but you want your best work represented within the submission.

I would think it would be illegal, since most of those contests prohibit those sort of treatments. And for folks that are considering it as a treatment for their models, I will just point out that all the reviews of the product I read all mentioned the "milky" film it produces. Some mentioned that it dries rough, as well as flaking off easily from fabrics & a seemingly low UV resistance. Still, heck of a product. If they can get it to dry clear, smooth & with good UV resistance, it'll really worry the Rain-X folks. - Pb You are correct on both counts. Not a good papermodel product. Here are the rules; -Entire boat must be made of corrugated cardboard and held together with duct tape and/or white glue. -No waxed or waterproofed cardboard. -Any weight or thickness of corrugated cardboard is OK. -Duct tape can be used only at the seams and may not extend more than 3 inches beyond seams. -Boat must be hand powered. Paddles will be provided. -Racers must be at least 6 years old. -Life jackets are required and will be provided by Anchorage Parks and Recreation. -The Cardboard Boat Regatta is meant to be a fun for all event. Therefore, no matter how fast, slow, big, small, sensible, or outrageous your boat is, the goal is that the designers, builders, racers, and supporters have fun! 1. Who are the other members of your crew? Those are my kids, my son wanted to play this year. 2. Would it have been better weight distribution with the larger person in the middle?Yesss...I've heard that a lot. 3. What does 'FC' stand for?Family, third entrant (C). This year I tried to make a lighter, wider boat. Last years was a little tippy as it was too narrow and I'd overbuilt it a lot so it was pretty heavy, not a drop of water got in the boat though. Next year will be wide like this year, that worked out right, but three layers of cardboard instead of just two. Two was just too flimsy for the amount of weight in the boat. And yes, I'll sit in the middle next time. The pirate ship in the video was a five-layered affair, very heavy. Now I need to get back to finishing my Harbor Junk model, due out the first week in August.

Thanks, and welcome to the new yet strangely familiar Cardboard Warriors empire. I don't anticipate huge changes, but there are some fun things that I want to get rolling right away. First up; Papercut Awrds 2013! We're overdue on starting this project so the start date will be this monday 7/22 where I'll be posting full details on the competition. Much of the format from previous years will remain with the notable exception of no celebrity judges. All voting and judging will be done by the will of the people. There will also be an additional category for Best in Show. Prizes and details on 7/22. Secondly; I love the banner at the top of the forum, but there's more people than Floydski around who can build and shoot a great pic. Starting monday 7/22 I'm doing a forum banner of the month competition. Each month forum members can submit photos of their creations in the forum banner format and the best of the month will be chosen by the membership. More details and specifications on monday. Thirdly; The Forum Hoards...easily the toughest job here. I can promote, participate, and host the finished files. Somebody, or somebodies needs to step up to the plate to manage the collating and presenting aspect. This will sit on hold until somebodies can fill the vacancy. Thanks all, talk to you more later!

I use small plastic shoebox sized tubs for props, doors, halls, flat things. And bigger tubs for bigger items. I always use clear tubs so I can see what's inside and no enormous tubs or things just get lost. Then I keep them all on a shelf so I can find them easily.
One thought, if all you are dealing with is flat items, could be to use those clear plastic sheet holders in three-ring binders. Insert pieces in back to back so as you flip through you can see everything.

I unpacked the first copy of 40K:Rogue Trader that arrived in Alaska, and that started my descent into hardcore tabletop gaming miniature addiction...I've had lot of fun with their products over the years and I still buy the occasional clearance item for fun. But no way am I or anybody else I game with willing to pay the new prices, the old ones were bad enough. You're right, there's tons of good minis and games around now, besides, it plays kinda slow... LEGAL NOTE, (ahem); It is the policy of this forum to put anything of questionable IP into the forum area called Fan Art Member Exlusives. cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/board/37/fan-art-member-exclusivesIf you do proceed with this project, as a courtesy to the Forum owners, please have this discussion and place any links to completed projects there. From the Fiddler's Green newsletter; Hi Model'n Pals, We have another "Free for All" download, the Canadian Chipmunk, at the top of our home page right next to the P-51 from last week. You don't need Magic Keys to download it. Just click on the box right below it. King Richard's Dragon is in your folders now if you have Magic Keys and the Predator was also released this week. You should also have the J2F Grumman Amphibious Duck the The Herring SEA GULL GLIDER the Stars and Stripes USA Hot Air Balloon the USA Screaming Eagle Balloon and thanks to the kindness of Darla from California who figured out which lighthouses were not released yet, you now have the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse Newport, Oregon to add to your collection. Congratulations to Christopher who found the Pteradactyl in the Fantasy Castle where it still is if you have that folder, but it will be moving again soon, so don't wait if you want to catch it. He also found the The Rhamphorynchus in the captain's house and won a month of Magic Keys. Most questions and customer service can now be addressed in the chat room where you can meet some of the designers and other assorted staff. They are volunteers, so be nice to them.
Vlad has sent us his new DFS 346, which is beautiful of course, so as soon as we're done with the beta on that it will be headed your way.
That's all for now, YMP Scott FynFiddlers Green

From the Fiddler's Green newsletter; Hi Model'n Pals,
Right near the top of the home page this week is a free download link for the colorful Holiday Edition for the 4th of July P-51 sent in by Gary Dare. You don't need Magic Keys to download this. In fact, you don't even need to log in.
Big thanks to Bob Martin and Ward for helping to answer questions and assisting with everything in the chat room. Little Ward (8yrs old now) had his birthday this week and selected the HUP-2 Vertol Retriever Helicopter-US Navy version for all those with Magic Keys. Nice choice, Ward!
Not to be outdone by this, a brilliant lad in New Zealand, Hunter B, tried his hand in model design and came up with two new versions of the Starduster. He calls them "Bright and Beautiful" and "YELL-O" and you really need to download them. He said it is a gift from him to all the Model'n Pals for helping out with store credit when he was low on cash. They will be in your Treasure Chest for the week on your MyModels Page. A lot of people really loved that method of downloading, so we'll try it again this week. It also gives you a chance to buy 3 months of Magic Keys and get the week you missed by buying the chest with your store credit.
The Predator was supposed to be ready for this weekend but we had to move it to the following Saturday. Bob Martin and Aaron are working on a way to make it easier to build. The nose part requires a little trick and some serious skill to make it come out right, but we want to make it something that will be easier for everyone.
Vlad is back on his feet. He sent in a green camo version of the DFS-228 and started back to work on the Mitchel B-25 which a lot of people have been asking about. I don't have a time frame on it, but it is moving forward. He's a great artist and he really loves illustrating and designing models, but things have been hard for him. It's getting better though.
Speaking of great artists, Richard has finished the "Knight in Shining Armor" model and I'm sure you're gonna love it. I do. We'll release his Dragon next week (July 5th) to make some room in the pipeline, but in the meantime I'm lowering the price on it to $12 and I'll extend the offer to pay him an extra $5 per sale on that until it's released to the Magic Keys folders. A lot of people got that with store credit, but only one, as far as I can tell, actually bought it. Thanks Allen! If you paid for it with a regular payment and your name is not Allen, then please write to me so I can give Richard his bonus for that.
The Flying Dino's have flown again. If you are the first one to find all three again this week then you can have a month of Keys. I had one guy come into the chat room and ask where they were. I asked him if he had read the newsletter last week and he said, "Well, sort of.." but unfortunately this happened about an hour after I already moved them.
The Flying Dragon challenge... well, you will have to see the results of that on the Dragon Page. We put a couple short videos there to document Gary's success. It flew. It glided at least. The modifications that he made on it were pretty cool. He streamlined it and curled the wings up a bit to apply some of the principals of aeronautics. It looked nice with the neck stretched out like that, but I assure you there were no rockets involved.
For anyone looking for a project, the Mary Arden House could use a good write-up. If want to do a little research and write something for that page then I'm pretty sure there will be people there to read it. If you like history and you can whip up a web page without too much trouble, then I could probably use a hand every now and then. I get real busy around here and it's hard to know if I'll ever be able to take a break. We also have the Pharo's Lighthouse this week. If someone has a list of the lighthouses that have not been released to Magic Keys, then please send that to me and we'll try to get more of those out to you.
Aaron's Airfield Radio Beacon tower will be special fun, although I haven't decided where to put it yet. I want to release it into the public domain, which means that the copyright will be very free. That is free as in "free speech" not just free as in "free beer" so you will be able to alter or improve it, distribute it, share it, and even sell it if you want, just as long as you give credit to the originator of the work. I'm hoping to do other models like this in the future, but I want to make it clear that it is not open season for all FG models. The open source ones will carry a special logo for the "creative commons" and they will be available, along with new versions, somewhere in Fiddlersgreen. The Wallis Rigby Page is in serious need of revision, so it will probably start there. This is how we are going to celebrate "International Paper Model Day" this year (July 1st) which just happens to be my Father's birthday. Someone told me that it is also Wallis Rigby's birthday, but I haven't been able to confirm that yet. If you know, then please write and tell me.
Huge thanks to everyone, YMP Scott FynFiddler's Green
