The trick (for me) to not knock them over is finding the right distance (like a foot or so away). Then I just lightly coat the miniatures.
I use Krylon matte finish. I don't think it really adds to the stiffness of the minis, so I am not sure how to help you there.

Yup, all the minis I have made so far are woodland folk, hence the green skin and vines. They're for the first faction for a skirmish rules system I'm trying to get together. I've been using the rules for a while now, but using them for my own scenario driven purposes and making a game that is ready to offer to the world is a different story. After I color the sword singer (sketches in my other thread) I have an archer unit to do then I am on to the next faction (where the minis won't have green skin). Anyway, I'm glad you like it, thanks for the comments

I think you are right about the legs. Here is version 2, with a wider stance.

Here's the draft for the other mini I was mentioning, definitely more feminine, I'm not sure I'm 100% happy with the pose though.

I may have jumped the gun on inking this one, before reading this advice. Don’t think I don’t appreciate the feedback though…Don’t worry, I’ve still got one more female miniature to do for this faction, I’ll make sure it’s got curves.

Feel free to use these photos however you want.
Nothing was really too fiddly to work with. I found that working with some of the smaller pieces it was easier to use glue sticks/tape and make a new larger piece to uses (the corridor with the half round alcoves is now all one piece, as are the 10’x10’ cells with the transition piece). Also the large rooms are one piece. I figure if I make a new room or two and a special stretch of corridor each time I set up I’ll have a decent library after a few dungeon runs.
If I had any complaint it would be that the transition pieces are just too small to handle easily and I’ll ruin some of the versatility if I glue them to the rooms. For the most part I’ve been just having the corridors overlap the rooms to make the doorway, but when I need the transition piece it’d be easier to handle if it had a few extra squares on it (one row inside the room and one outside). I may glue some transition pieces to some plain interior tiles and make my own. That’s a pretty minor issue though.
As for coloration, the only thing that stands out to me is the flagstone which looks so much busier than the rest of the tiles. I like the two tone of the sandstone/grey rooms. I’d like to see some corridors with the same color scheme. Or the same rooms (and corridors) set up with the same light grey color but have the alternate color be some kind of grey-blue color.
That’s my two cents worth anyway, keep up the good work.

I'm getting ready to run a dungeon crawl and decided to put this tile set to work. I found it to be pretty versatile, though I only used it to generate the floor plan. My players have a map, but I still prefer to furnish the rooms as they enter them, plus I have quite a few 3D props to use. Anyway, for those that are interested in seeing a Inked Adventures, dungeon level here you go.

I've got one and I must admit it works pretty well if you use it on acetate, regular paper, even photo paper. I can't see it cutting through two layers of card plus glue though. Even if it did the blade would probably get trashed in no time.
To be totally fair though I haven't tried it for cutting minis because I am just assuming it won't work.

I never really thought of starting with a photo, but once I read it it makes perfect sense.
Thanks for the suggestions I'll have to give it a try.

Anyone know of a good tutorial, or have some advice, for making textures that would be used on ground tiles?
My recent attempts seem to turn out like mottled messes, not very crisp or identifiable like the ones I usually see.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm pointed in the right direction. It looks like this next mini is going to be easy to align.

I must admit I am really looking forward to this one though, whenever you get back to it.

I am also using a light box to actually draw the reverse side of the figure (It really seems like the only way to get it right) so the outlines match pretty well.
After I scan the work in though I wind up with two separate images (1 front and 1 back) and I spend a fair amount of time (and ink and paper) to get them in the right spot so they line up well when printed and folded.
How do you accomplish that part of the front back alignment?

What does everyone do to align the front and back of a mini? Currently my method involves a reference line on my sketches, followed by a few trial and error runs through the printer.
Is there a better method.
I primarily use GIMP or Inkscape for my work.

As far as I can remember you don't need to use movement trays for song of blades and heroes. Likewise the base sizes are not critical to the system, so I would just do whatever you prefer, or whatever is the easiest.

Thanks Jim!
I'm not sure if I can keep up the pace, but there are still about a dozen mini's I want to produce.
I'll put them up as I get them done.

These are sweet.
I have a region in my homebrew fantasy world that is an amalgamation of Arabian and Middle Easter legend and never really had the miniatures to do it justice. Naturally my players love this area so next time they had that way I'll have some new minis to use.
Thanks for the hard work.

It's been said other places on this forum, but it is true, getting the proportions right can be difficult, and it is really noticeable when they're off. Funny though, when I was finished I thought the torso and arms were to big. I built two sets of them last night and they look pretty good on the table at an arms length away.
They're definitely a race of woodland folk. I have had plans to include treants and some other special plant themed units. But as of right now I am concentrating on getting infantry done for just two factions so I can try and get some people playing.

This is a pretty cool concept. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Especially as star ship corridors. I have enough terrain to simulate a hundred miles of dungeons, but when it comes to star ships I am mostly stuck in 2D.

Here is the second set of minis, same faction different unit. I'm not sure if I am as happy with them as I am with my first set, but the process was easier the second time. Now it is going to be back to the paper and pencil to get more art ready to produce. and if anyone wants the PDF (there are seven, though only three different poses and some mirror images) broken

Thanks for all of the comments.
Nit picking is fine, it will make future minis better.
I'm not certain what you mean by cleaner detail coloring (do you mean shading the smaller objects individually?)
I didn't really do any highlighting here, just started with a light base color and shaded. I'm trying to incorporate highlights into the minis I am working on now but I am not sure I am really getting the hang of it. . . Practice practice.
As for more minis, I am working on another set now, I'm coloring them and hope to have them ready this week.
The Seed Born Brawlers are the first unit in the first faction of a skirmish minis game I have been working on for a while now. Finding this website really offered me inspiration in being able to put together a playable version of the game in a print and play format. I hope to be able to create minis for all the units in the game and get some play testing going. But with the time I can devote to it now that is still a number of months away.
