Sweet..love your stuff. These are nice and I dig the high tech facemask. Did you every post the Soviet Army (NRSS) as a sheet? As of now no I have not. It is no secret that I'm thinking about goin retail with these designs so I hade to make some changes to the NRSS troops. I have based much of my learing on Jim's work and when I was releasing free stuff I was lazy and used his heads. I need to go back though and change them all out for some of my own so the NRSS guys will have to wait for a time. Nate

Here is a test for my up coming NCC (National Centric Combine) Troopers. This will be the opposing army to my NRSS troops. First set will have 10 figures with assorted weapons. I will be refining these over this week. Enjoy, Nate

I love your artistic style! These are going to be great! I'm glad your making them in 30mm too. One nice thing about 30mm is that you can get 15mm out of them that look good rather then having to enlarge 15mm-30mm. Great work

onemonkeybeau, I want to get the modular turret thing worked out next and then the future depends on what Ideas Jim throws at me. For my own personal line I want to do some stuff for the near future/sci-fi range I am working on.
jabbro, Thanks my 3d work uses the KISS method. Simple polys and let the texture/artwork make the model shine. Its in 30mm scale to go with Jim's TF range but aside from the barrel the whole model can be easily built in 15mm.

Just got back from the store with cardstock. Ill have the finished test build later tonight and you should get the files by tomorrow ;D Nate Edit: I have the finished model all done and built. I made a few changes. I added 10mm height to the treads and the armor skirt. This should make the model a bit higher and make it look more imposing. Here is a picture before I made the changes. The final files are off to Jim for approval and texturing. Nate

that is one sweet looking fortress cool thing about it is that it can be both scifi and fantasy depending on the texture. Below is a test build and a texture test for the bunkers. I need to make it a bit higher (like 25mm i forgot to take figures bases into account when making the meshes). Other then that I think it looks good. I might also redesign the corner sections to be a bit more streamlined and smaller. Enjoy Nate

Well as I wait for my weekly trip to Walmart on Monday to get food and more importantly card-stock ;D I figured I would through together some quick meshes for a generic bunker set. I have 2 straight sections, 90 degree turn (both concave and convex), 30 degree turn (both concave and convex) and a bunker. Wall height is 20mm so it should go well with 30mm figures. Enjoy, Nate

test build is going well! I ran out of card-stock (don't ask me how) so all i got done is the turret. below is a before picture from my old model attempt. and now for the new one. It went together just as easily and looks way better in my opinion. I also made it a bit smaller to give the tank a more imposing feel. New turret is below. Nate

I've built some scale model paper tanks where the gun barrels were rolled up tightly instead of folded square. I liked the way they looked a lot better. Apart from that caveat, I think you do a whiz-bang job, Nate! I agree with you on the barrels but I'm looking for simplicity and ease of build. I know when I build paper models for games I want something that goes together fast and can be reproduced easily. If I want to build something complex there are a TON of models out there already. Also if the texturing is done right the low polly count and bulkiness of the objects will look smoother on the finished model. But I don't see any reason why you could not roll the barrel even though Its designed to be a square ;D. The Diameter should still be smaller then the breach. Nice looking tank man. You build a prototype yet? Working on that as we speak I have taken a step away from the modular turret design (I need to do some major tweaking to get the parts to fit together in a way that does not look like its modular) and have made a basic 3 part turret. I should have finished pictures latter tonight. Here is a pic of the model with the simple turret. Enjoy! Nate

Just a little update for this evening. I think I'm done making parts now just to refine them. I made a generic turret for though of you who don't want the modular one. I also added long range missiles, Artillery cannon and loading platform as well as a few detail parts. here is a pic. Nate

Thanks guys! and I would love it if you could do some art for it Jim after all its based on your ideas and sketches. Here is an exploded view of the turret and the parts. Left to right is the turret base, Missile pod, main cannon, command modules and in front are the small guns/AA guns. I still need to tweak things and make them look a bit better but I think you might be able to get some cool combinations out of combining these few parts together. Enjoy Nate

Well after almost a year of learning I feel that I have gotten to a point where i can revisit an old project the Terran MBT. Below is a picture of the rough model. The base geometry has remained the same but gotten a little more complex except for the turret. I have been beating myself over the head for the past few weeks about how to make a good tank turret. Alas I came up with a modular design that will allow the builder to customize the tank to his or her liking. The turret has a center stem that parts are attached to on the sides. I will be making a small amount of parts such as command module, main gun, AA gun, small guns, large and small rocket pods etc. Later i will post pictures of the turret broken down so you can get a better feel of what I mean. Enjoy Nate

HA I KNEW IT. It looked like one of mel's mechs but it was hidden and I have never seen that type before. Kudos to the mech pilot its hard to hide a mech as well as that. It's also good to see the evil monkey back where he belongs.....in the closet!

NIDS RULE! and so does the pictures of the game! awesome stuff! Just one question though is that a mech like thingy behind the brown building in the first picture.

PS: Alleyways and dark cramped corridors are where nids really shine!

I agree I look back at the post I made in December and I have totally made the switch to photo paper for my miniatures. I still use the card stock for 3d models though.

I personally think this was one of the greatest sleeper games of all time. It was a total shock to me when I got it. I thought it was going to be crap and it turned out to be one of my favorite games for the 360.
With that being said I think I will give a go at making this dude! To be honest I drafted up some sketches a few months ago for a overlord but they got shoved to the back of my to do list. It should not be that hard though. Make like 4 overlords with different weapons and like 6 different minions (ill have a looks see though Jim's stuff and try to find something I can trace parts from for the minions) then just make red, blue, green, brown colors.
I should have last months hoard finished up today so ill give it a go later tonight.
Awesome Idea!

my first few figures had the same problem. They looked good but when compared to Jim's work they just looked too thin. I know metal/plastic figures have exaggerated proportions so that parts stand out on the table top. being the lover of firearms that I am It has been hard for me to get guns to look accurate and "fatten" them up so that they look good on the game table. If you have not already check this thread onemonk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=templates&action=display&thread=920it might help with the proportions Nate

AWESOME! I'm so glad that the day was a success. It never ceases to amaze me when people see my paper model/miniature collection and go "THAT MADE OF PAPER". It has been said before on this forum many a time but once you go paper there is no going back to plastic. I'm glad that I could help out just a little to make the game more enjoyable.

I could take care of that department ;D. But its would be like 40th on my list of to-do things . This is great work. I know on one of my late night browsing adventures of papercraft websites I saw a wild west town. I need to find it again and see what scale its in. Nate

Thanks guys!
This was actually quite fun to put these guys together. I sent the files off to Dragonier but I'm gona make them look a bit more pretty before I post them here. Just some shading and highlights (perhaps some textures on the clothes) give me a few days.

KK sir give me a few hours and I'll see what I can put together. I should have something done later today so you can get them built for this weekend. Again it will be very basic as far as fills go just due to the time constraint. Check back here this afternoon or this evening.
Nate
PS: PM me your email address and when I get them done ill just fire the PDF off to you.

Greetings dragonier and welcome to the fourms. would something like this work? I slapped him together with existing parts for my near future army I have been working on. I'll have to add Hair, better looking proton pack (i went from memory and think i got the basic shape down) and adjust the fills. It is possible that I might be able to slap some figures together over tonight and tomorrow. Granted they will just have basic gradient fills and such. How many figures do you need? Do you want backs? Nate

yes you are very correct kane I use the wow model viewer all the time to make and take screenshots of wow figures for a friend of mine who makes them into paper minis. highlandpiper, Here is a model viewer for dungeon siege (number 1 I think) I have not used this one so I can't say if its any good but the developer has made several others for other games and they worked good. files.filefront.com/ASP+Viewer/;3935907;/fileinfo.htmlNate
