Excellent! Those look really good BnK. I like that you put them into a real terrain environment. It shows off how well they look in this setting. Not just in a flat planed 3d paper constructs.
Great builds.

I find that once you get a feel for (insert your specific 3d app here) that it is way easier to visiualize a model in the app, then create it by hand if you do not have an unfolding software package. I have not played with GoogleSketchup to know how accurate the measurment system works (unless you are forking out the cash for the Pro version).
I used to use Truespace on the Mac. They released version 5.5 (i think) for free. And it works well, fairly simple and easy to follow tutorials. A pretty intuitive system for building and "painting" textures onto surfaces, as well as vector mapping.

If you mean, can you drop Photoshop plug-ins into CorelDraw's Photopaint, then no, you can not. Nor vice-versa. They would need to be specificly designed for each application.

I run CS3.
Yes, you can. But it isn't exactly the same as Photoshop nor is it exactly the same as working in typical vector style.
(You know you can maintain editable vector shapes that have layer effects applied to them in Photoshop right?)
If you have a more specific example, I can replicate it in Illustrator to see if it is feesible for you.

And thanks for the tip on Dave's buildings, Lord A. I'll check that out. Were they the one posted about on Lead Adventure a while back? I may already have them. Luckyjoe Here they are Joe. And the buildings, like your figures look realy good at 15mm. Good work! I like the 15mm portal too! ~F

I suspect 'pwned' & 'pr0n' became commonly acceptable *"leet speak" from back in the Doom, Quake, Quake2, UT FPS (First person shooter) days. 'pwned' is just a common misspelling, or probably more correctly mistyping (ie. hitting the wrong key in the heat of battle... P is awfully close to the letter O. 'pr0n' - transposed 'r' and 'o'. Eventually became a '0 - zero'.. and add to the growing list of computer slang. And expounded upon later to 'Pwnz0rd' or 0\/\/|\|z0r! and probably 10 more I don't know about. Also, a way to keep their intended message off the search engines. n00b, newbie - new player - novice... phonetically spelled. Eventually changed to 0hs to zeros. Examples of Leet Speak: 533x ) 4 ) = Geek Dad 1337, l33t = leet * Leet Speak (Elite Speak) is a keyboard only language since it really cannot be handwritten, unless of course you write just like the common font seen on most computers. Here is a better explanation than I have time to write at the moment. And has a common vocabulary at the bottom. Woot! oops w00t! ~Floyd ps. I find that it has a way of rubbing off on a person a little. As I have incorporated quite a few of those into my everyday speak and computer talk. Much like the Nadsat speak I picked up (and never let down) from the novel A Clockwork Orange. It has that sort of r hymey, sing-songy, word play feel. Viddy well me broth-ahs, viddy well.

I am a fan of all paper-craft or rather a fanatic (18gigs of paper-craft models). And I usually build 3-4 pieces a month on-top of any game specific stuff (ala. One Monk minis, terrain and what have you). Most I give away (Pokemon, Animals & Cartoon characters ,etc). And one of my favorite genres of the paper-craft world are the Automata or mechanical moving sculptures. Models from the likes of FlyingPaperPig, Paperpino, CeraCera and Clockworkrobot are endlessly fascinating to me. There simplicity, cleverness and craft appeal both to my inner artist & designer. But mostly to my inner child just fascinated with impression of movement, how it works and the toy like quality of them. I had been kicking around the idea of taking one or two of Mel Ebbles mecha or stompie figures (Joton or Murphy) and try some basic automata conversion, so I was really psyched when I came across this free Mechwarrior:Wildcat automata. I am particularly impressed with the fluidity of motion. I can't wait to build this! ~F

I always thought that Buggie would look better with a raised fin in the back... sort of like the Import Tuner racers. LOL.
I need to purchase that and the cycle he produced a while back. They are both really nice looking models.

Yep Ebbles Jotun and I saw the Ziggerat set in the background. ;D But that very first picture... you building your own version of the Haruspex type tyranid?? (Or whatever that Tyranid troop carrier was called made by Epicast)
That is really cool Eric that your son gets into minatures and gaming. And enjoys acting out the battles like that. Very good imagination. ~F

Thanks OMB I've been looking at FDG's new sets (I did pick up the new EZDungeons set).
I also base my figures on Matte Board. Its super sturdy, more resilient than Foamcore, and I prefer the 1/8" high bases as opposed to the 1/4" foamcore. I get the Poster board sized sheets of Matte Board for right around $5.00USD (PatCatans) Must be more expensive in your neck of the woods.

Great job man. Those look great in 15mm. And I love the Crypt Worm... that's why I put it as one of the Encouter set choices. Wouldn't it be bloody cool to see a photo of it reaching up over a plinth or raised dias about to devour one of the cultist figures whom raised it from its slumber? And I second the vote for more of these 3d (2.5d) critters.
What's the ground tile from?

I have a set of the dual tipped Prismacolor markers. 6 different shades of grey. The whole color spectrum of Sharpie's new line. And the rainbow set of brush markers like Jim mentioned above. The Prismacolors are more expensive but last a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnng time. The Sharpie brand is great but bleed excessively when new and don't have the most convenient tips. Though the bleeding helps get into the nooks and crannies of a tight cut. Putting the tip of the marker on the corner and the ink will spread fairly evenly in both directions. The brush tipped markers fit into any corners (much like using a real brush) but fray quickly. Same with the chisel tipped Calligraphy markers I've tried. They also tend not to distribute ink evenly only the chisel surface, causing me to have to repeat the edge line. I have used a paint brush and pot of ink but found the markers more convenient for the same result.
Also some black markers dry glossy and with a warmish (almost reddish hue when light hits it). I do not like these. By far my preference is the slightly cool 80% grey Prisma color maker that dries flat. Plus it has both a wide and narrow point.
Something new I've added is a Ball Point rolling marker pen with a medium ball point. It has been working fairly well. About the same amount of coverage as a marker tip...but much more durable.

I love dice towers! I made a few for Heroscape.
The funnel you've built at the top is particularly nice. Can't wait to see it with the final textures.
What might be cool to add is a small triangular ramp (maybe to the side of th tray) for easy scooping up of large amounts of polyhedrals after they've been rolled?

I love WWG's Platform Command. Though it does take a ton of time to build properly. I know I've got quite a bit of it constructed. The one thing that particularly bothers me about PCON is that (IMO) the over saturated colors deter from the figures. It is almost too much eye candy(if that were possible). But really I love the sets. Matt does such awesome work and very quickly. This particular set from Fingers and Toes is the first one that has really peaked my interest. I think he's found a nice blend of modularity, easy build and shapes. And I like the bridg, it just feels right. I would like a different texture set, or a little more variety with the models, but hey that's what modding is for right? And with the free watch tower its practically a full set. And it looks like you can throw this together in about 2 evenings work.
Besides, I am a fiend for variety. Same with my gaming systems.

That hand-drawn kilt pattern is excellent. This discussion got me curious about plaid patterns so I went looking for some and found this: Clan Patterns * Photoshop has a technique using Displacement maps to recognize folds and valleys and "can" do a good job of warping a straight pattern convincingly. It can also work well if you are wanting to wrap ... say a skin texture. I used the McLeod pattern on the back of the Kobold kilt as an quick example. It would have been more convincing to align the grain of the pattern with each piece of fabric...but it fairly illustrates the point. ~F
