Well due to a long work related web seminar and idle hands i got the Halberd and Assault troops done. Cool. Yes, remote working can be quite useful... Way back in the mid-nineties, I was in the UK. We had a conference call between Oulu, Finland, and our Dallas and Houston offices. During the call, for which I didn't have anything to say for about 3/4 of the time, one of the Dallas guys commented " Hey, is someone typing? I can hear key-clicks." " Erm, yeah" I replied, " That'll be me. I'm, err, writing a test report, while you other guys are talking. I'm still listening though." " OK", said Dallas guy, " That's cool." I was playing DOOM!

Solo games new since 2014: Five Leagues abd Five Parsecs series from Nordic Weasel, Rangers Of The Shadowdeep from Joseph McCollough. I play all of them and they are great! Five Parsecs looks interesting, what is the actual mechanics like?. For me, a good solo game has "intelligent" randomness - Events happening in a sensible way, enemies acting like they should, but as little pre-programming (like Tunnels and Trolls solo adventures and ye olde Fighting Fantasy books in days gone by...)

Would anyone be interested in a "Play by email/forum" game of somthing? If so, I have never done this sort of thing before, but have a few ideas.

Well have a few more mixed units to add to my hordes. Nice figures. Remember to do a final "complete army" photo where they're ready to rumble!

I started doing it with building models, then moved onto 28 mm figures - it doesn't take lot to jazz them up a bit, for example, with spacey-marine type figure, sticking an extra layer on for the gun at the from and backpack on the back makes them really stand out.
I never intended to do it with these figures, but it sort-of just happen...

Thin corrugated card workes well too - but make sure to cut it with the corrugations running at an angle, such as 45°, so that it reduces the chance of the card bending. I usually use this type of card for most models that are large and boxy, such a buildings. The only photo I seem to have to show this is of a couple of APCs I made a few years back: Also, reinforcing corners with little triangles of the same card, or blobs of hot-glue or PVA glue will add to the strength.

interesting let me know if you need something for your army Thanks, I'll bear that in mind. I think I'm pretty much covered for the last two unit type - goblins and dark knights. Not looking forward to the goblins, though. There are four bases worth and goblins are small, so that means lots of them. They will definately be straight forward, plain vanilla, no frills attached 2D. Probably.

About half way through the first of the Orc Warrior units/regiments: 'twas a normal work day today, getting up at twenty-past-four for a 05:15 after a long weekend was a bit off strain. Still, I get to finish work at two in the afternoon. Hope to finish both units by the weekend, then that'll leave the Goblins and the Dark Knights (not a bunch of Batmans Batmen?).

Tiffany: "I don't like this crypt. It's dark and creepy!" Iron Man: "Of course I don't know, but I think it'll get darker before it gets lighter." Tiffany: "Do you suppose we'll meet any spooky things?" Iron Man: "We might." Straw Man: "Spooky things that eat... brains?" Iron Man: "Well, some, but mostly coffins and shrouds and mummies." Tiffany: "Coffins?" Straw Man: "and shrouds?" Iron Man: "and mummies." All: "Coffins and shrouds and mummies!" Tiffany: "Oh my!" All: "Coffins and shrouds and mummies!" Tiffany: "Oh my!"

And finally, for good guys, I give you the Soldiers of the Sun! I love that these units look like little dioramas. Thanks. I've never really been into decorated bases, but thanks to mcoyfan 's suggestion about adding a little extra to fill the space, I've tried to add a bit character without overloading them.

Lessons learntThe Skeleton cavalry, Demon Lords and Men at Arms, were made quite a while ago. I had opted for speed and simplicity, so only went for basic 2D. For the Skeleton cavalry and Demon Lords, I used watercolour paper, so the figures are quite thin, but for the Men at Arms, I thought to give them some depth by using thicker card - from a pizza box (do at home in the oven type, not delivered.) They came out too thick, which makes it harder to cut around neatly and detracts from the neatness of them. I still used the thick card for the Dwarven Stoneguard regiment, but decided to add shields. I used a 4 mm hole punch with some red card ( Tesco's Original Tea, just in case anyone's interested) and the smallest hole punch on my leather punch to make the boss. The first attempt with the Knights of the Realm, I still used the thick card, but it just didn't look very nice. For starters, their swords looked more like clubs! I redid them using thinner card (from a box of Tesco Finest English Breakfast, I mean, what else for Knights of the Realm?) They were much easier to cut out, and don't look so clumsy. I had already printed up a batch of Elven Ranger and stuck them to the thick card at the same time as when I made the first lot of Knights. As I had a couple of sheets of Elves already printed, I was able to use the thin card for the second unit. I had a couple of attempts at the Soldiers of the Sun, as I wanted to put some really small details on, but it turned out a bit too much fiddly work for both my eyes and fingers. Though when doing the second attempt, I remembered I have a nice pair of small tweezers with my Swiss Army knife. I also remembered that I have a proper X-Acto scalpel type knife, but couldn't find it in time... Hopefully, the bad boys, a.k.a, the Unholy Blight Army, will come out neater.

And finally, for good guys, I give you the Soldiers of the Sun! I can really see how various bits didn't line up, like the back of the banner mast, once the photos have been taken! My eyes ain't what they used to be! I used a clear base as these angel-boys are supposed to be walking on clouds, not soiling their pristine perfect feet with dirt of mortals... The figures are from the CWF Fanatsy Set from the Member Artist Gallery on the One Monk Miniatures website. Here's the whole Golden Alliance Army:

OK, my mistake - the Elves aren't the last ones on the good guys' list. That's the Soldiers of the Sun. Anyways, here are the Elf Rangers: There are from Okumarts Games Darkfast Classic Fantasy Set Two: Wood ElvesThe edges of the figures are actually coloured (I used green, brown and grey), but it doesn't seem to show as well in the photos. Next will finally be the last lot for the Golden Alliance Army.

I have been following this Youtube channel for over five years now: Dark 5. Most videos give five examples of a particular theme and many are about "conspiracy theories", but they do not support them, merely explain why people believe them. I think the best ones, though, surround regular unexplained or just creepy stuff, such as 5 Towns That Mysteriously Disappeared. The videos only give about a minute to each example, but in the past, I have then done my own searching for further info. Many are a good departure from "You've just sat down at the local tavern, when a strange old man comes over to you and says, So, Ye must be here to slay thems goblins that keep stealin' ours cabbages... "One creepy, unexplained thing ( OOOooooooooooooooEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooo! ) is that I have been subscribed to the channel since 2013, but now it only lists videos going back six years... Shame, because it was some of the really early videos about haunted places and such like, that got me hooked.

Knights of the Realm regiment: But I'm thinking they could use a dude with a standard in the middle. Tomorrow. I'll also see if I can add proper printed sword and arms for the 2½D bits. (won't be using that phone again - resolution and close-up focusing are waaaaay too good...) Knights of the Realm Regiment ( redux) - Medieval Knights Templars Set 1 from Permes
Next up, the last one for the Golden Alliance Army 2x units of Elven Rangers...

Got the basic rules last week. Haven't yet got around to reading them, let alone play them. But hope to this week - some of us still have to brave the post-apocalyptic plague infested wastelands and go to work! So, normal couple of hours each evening before beddy-byes...

Thanks! Perhaps on the bases with the larger figures you could add a little terrian to the stand for colour? Normally, I've never been a fan overly detailed bases for gaming figures. Don't get me wrong, I think a lot of figures I've seen, with detailed scenic bases are brilliant and work well as show-pieces. But to see a tank trundling down a town road with tufts of grass and muddy tracks behind it, an anti-tank gun in a shelled out building and hedgerow or even a space marine standing on the only piece of rocky rubble in a starship corridor, looks a bit out of place to me. For my 28 mm figures, I use clear bases, so they fit in any scene. For the 15 mm, ,I have tried to go with neutral bases, but stilll have a bit of character: A regular infantry regiment tramples grass into mud, the undead leave dead, barren dust in their wake and the demons bring their own fire and brimstone! But yeah, their base did look a little sparse, so I added a couple of flames and small rocky bits - thanks for the suggestion.

Interesting. How well does it sit on the table though?
At one point, when used thick corrugated card, I used cocktail sticks and wooden kebab/shashlik sticks to join them together.

Looking good...are you backing your figures on white foam-core? No, I stick them to card, then fold the card over, so they are quite thick. That looks like it'd be a great deal of labor to cut out. Yes, it is!

Got around to a bit of re-basing: I must admit, I think they do look better on 40 mm square bases. I thought the units with large figures might look a bit sprse.. But in the end, they look OK.
