How thick is the paper you are thinking about using. I have seen some models made from 1/16 inch chip board that are slotted together.

Does this count as being a published author ? OK I have it printed out and your detailed textures look great on it. Will put it together tomorrow as I need to sleep. I'm extraordinarily excited about this. (imagine grown man making girly noises)

I'll never ever try to build a thing like this..... ....which makes me sad 'cause is gorgeous! Oh come now, Romans have been building complex shapes for over 2000 years. What would Vitruvius think about this?

That could be part of the business model Making us feel like giddy 8 year old?

Yes they want a regular release every x number of weeks apart instead of 2 or 3 release really close to each other then nothing for months. Long term business wise it makes sense, but it does leave us feeling like an 8 year old waiting for Christmas morning.

I have the same problem. My digital 3D modeling program is in my head and it's full of registry errors.

Good start. Looks quick and easy to build. I much as I hate making round wheels, I think you should have at least 16 sided wheels. The Octagon ones don't feel round enough.

I have a theory that the Pringles chip is in fact a form of papercraft.
About the Observatory, ether choice is fine, so free is OK with me.

Cool idea. With a little modding you could turn it into a WWII Flack tower.

Yes, I'm kind of imagining the legs as looking similar to the arm too.

Do you think they could work as two or four legged walkers as well?

I'm really liking the one with the arm. I am not quite sure why, but they remind me a little of those little pit droid from Phantom Menace.

Just had a thought....I know dangerous. Have you considered a ruined round light house? You could have the curved steps going around the interior. You just need to design one free standing step to be glued to the curved wall, then just reuse it over and over.

Now that you mention it, this little guy fits nicely on top of a Pringles can.

Looks to have potential, but they really need to color those guns a bright green and red color. It's only a matter of time before some trigger happy police officer sees one of these guys.

Actually it didn't take too long. I only had to remake two parts. Except for the telescope the whole thing will fit inside an imaginary 3 inch cube. Just PM me an Email address if you think it is something you can use. If not, that's OK too. It was good practice.

Well you could make a photographic record of the whole process and write down some notes along the way. But don't post anything until you are very close to finishing.

Tommygun, if you ever want to help me with geometry for stuff like that, I'm happy to send over some free models (and of course the finished version of this one, and an artist's credit). I could still add an observatory as an option. This one is set up at 300dpi, and I use cut-and-fold lines that are 3 pixels wide. If you can design something with a footprint (diameter?) of about 3" x 3", and keep the height to about 3", I'll use it. OK, I'll give it a try. Maybe a domed octagon or something with more sides. I can think of a way to do it in two pieces. How soon do you need it by and does it need to be made as a transparent layer? Also I only have Gimp and Inkscape (which I'm barely familiar with).

I might include some kind of telescope to sit out on the platform if I can get my head around the geometry, but at this point I'm too far along to make any changes to the structure. I kinda figured that would be the case. I can mod the top part.
