Nice little sale... but since I already bought them all for Christmas (in July), I have to ask... when do we get the long-teased adventurers? And most especially, the overworked little gobbo?

Themes always seem to work best, even though not all submissions will be for that theme. Without deadlines, little will get done. Without a theme, there is little inspiration. I also think that monthly is better than bi-monthly because it keeps up an excitement level. But that excitement level dwindles if it takes too long to release. I am a huge fan of the Hoards, but we need to get to the point they can be done with consistency before they get started again. I completely agree. One of my favourite quotes is "It is within limits that the artist reveals himself" or some such. Basically, time limits spur action, and theme limits spawn creative inspiration. We creative types sometimes need a framework to do our best work.

Bravesirkevin would have the most valuable answer, perhaps, as he just did this with his minis in a convention in South Africa. He had them professionally printed, and had some cut and assembled as well, I think. Now that's a different market, but same idea, introducing a new product to a new audience. It's an experiment to be sure. Would you be selling the physical product with a digital code for download as well, or just the printed work? Another option, to showcase one of the many advantages over more traditional mini materials.... Did Jim ever sell print + pdf versions on OneBookshelf? IMHO, I would try to aim for that $5 OR MORE mark, with a caliber of print that would be worth it. If that provides a reasonable return for you. You don't want to undersell, and hence undervalue your product; if you price it too cheaply, then people will consider them "cheap". One Monk, and the subsequent paper mini modellers that have grown up around the man and the brand, have demonstrated that paper miniatures are true miniatures, not merely the standins they've been in the past (and too often in the present, still). Adjusting your price either way later on can frustrate people, but better aim a little high, and take pride in your product! Just my two coppers, you'll have to bite the coins to see if they are worth anything

Rhannon, just click on the link on the original post above, scroll down and fill the beta application, they should send you a beta key within a day. Hm, I'd tried that over a month ago, and never heard back. So I was very grateful to oldschooldm for sharing one with me.

There is a great lack about this ( little ) fantasy people in paper minis. <snip></snip> "draggah" ( aforum's user ) has three wonderful halflings, here. This is fantastic, hadn't seen his work before since I'm so recent. The Lost Treasures game (which I think was sometimes labelled as being MMiP 17, includes the hero & villain figures on pages 38 & 39. Each set in two different colourways: villains red & purple, and heros blue & green. Haven't gotten around to the game yet, but the blue halfling served as the goblin's kidnap victim when I ran my 7-year old through the Pathfinder Beginner Box solo adventure. Had to send in his big brother to help my guy slay the Skeleton King, though. Can't let bad rolls ruin a kid's first dungeon crawl! EDIT: The page for Lost Treasures.

Anne, no...totally unfamiliar with that. Bizarre style! Hehehe, it's actually a recent project done by graduating students of a media arts college, in part an homage, in part a parody of many of the strange sci-fi flavoured cartoon offerings of the 80's/early 90's. I was confused when I first saw it, thinking it was one I'd missed, but now I can only wish it was real I especially love the keytar... erm, keySWORD!

If you'd like a regcode-speak up. I also offered these on twitter... so they will go fast! Thanks for the regcode, it's been great fun! I love the minis (especially the goblins), the OSR module cover pages, and best of all (IMHO) the battlemaps. Makes me crave some aboveground Inked Adventures

This game is freaking awesome! I love the paper figures they use and the old school dungeon feel. The tiles they use remind me of Billiam Babble wonderful inked adventure tiles. Are you in on this game bro? I don't think he has any hand in it, though it certainly does make me crave more overland and aboveground tile-sets from him. I've been enjoying the game over the last few days. I really hope that game brings more awareness and appreciation for the paper minis as more than mere stand-ins for metal kind, and hand-drawn (at least style of) map-tiles like Inked Adventures. I wonder if they will consider releasing the minis & maps as digital or POD? I know they would be concerned about copying their work, but it'd be a fine way to make more money off the game (I'll not be joining the "club" for extra in-game loot), and broadcast the hobby. Geek queen Felicia Day's been playing it, who knows, perhaps there will soon be The Guild paper minis?!

...I learned two great things - 1) you're a fellow Canadian 2) I love your commission work. So you are on my wish list for Christmas, now That's awesome, Anne! Thank you for the compliments! (: It's always nice to meet another Canadian out on The Internets. (; Whereabouts in Canada do you live? I'm in New Brunswick, Canada's most-oft forgotten province. I'd hoped to be up in your neck of the woods visiting my sister in Toronto this week, but things didn't work out. I was looking forward to checking out some of the gaming stores up there. My local one is overrun with 40K & MTG (neither my thing), so that my small, FLCBS is a better source for my incipient RPG fetish. The internet is great for shopping, but it's always nice to see and perhaps feel things too. Plus, as you well know, shipping can be brutal here. Your paper minis seem like a nice, light alternative though. Just have to wait until my three-year old is a little more ... calm. The One Monk and variation style has the black outline which I love (particularly as I cut by hand), but yours are the first really nice ones I can recall with the white outline. I've been playing Card Hunter the last few day, and I must say, your minis would fit in beautifully.

To me, these would look right at home in the Superfriends episode my son was watching earlier - set on the futuristic/old West planet of Texarkana. The evil posse was composed of meat men & robot men, and robot horses. Now, there was no magic users involved in that particular episode, but there's plenty in that old cartooon corner of the DC universe. Although, come to think of it, they remind me of a book I have: "The Twist" from Richard Calder (also author of Dead Girls/Boys/Things, an offshoot of the cyberpunk movement). Post-apocalyptic weird west. I may dig that out again...

While I won't be picking up any pre-printed minis any time soon (I love them, but I like uptrainfan89 suggested, my kid(s)* might wreck them), but I learned two great things - 1) you're a fellow Canadian 2) I love your commission work. So you are on my wish list for Christmas, now * I've a 3 year old that puts the Tasmanian Devil to shame, my 7 year old is rather better.

While I don't want to dissuade you from any of Kev's great stuff, if counters aren't what you are looking for, you could look at Coins of the Realm, $4.50 from WorldWorksGames. They have high fantasy coins based on their concept of dwarven, elven, and human. The dwarven coins are axe-head shaped, the elven are flower-shaped with each petal detachable (inspired by pieces of eight), and the human ones look, well, within the normal range of antique human coinage. The set also includes a treasure chest to store them in. Note, I've not yet bought anything from World Works, though I've admired from afar. I've stuck so far with Fat Dragon & Dave Graffam for scenery, and other paper crafters I've met here & found on RPGNow/DrivetrhuRPG. WorldWorks comes highly recommended, and has lots that tempt me. Another option, less expensive, less blingy, but including more fluff, is 10 Fantasy Coins, FREE! from Chaotic Shiny Productions on RPGNow. If those still don't work for you, other solid options include plastic pirate coins (check party supply stores, ebay, amazon, for cheap bulk, pricing in the US) or very detailed metal Campaign Coins or Realm Coins from Mused Fable. But I'm guessing the sheer expense of those last two options may be what made you look at a papercraft alternatives! These are all the options I've found, but I've yet to put one into play yet. Hope these help - have fun!

Thanks for buying off the ads, Squirmydad. They weren't bothering me (easy enough for me to ignore, once or twice I clicked on something), but I appreciate the gesture, and all the hardwork you're putting into Cardboard Warriors and One Monk to bring it back to glory days. It's a wonderful, creative, and friendly community... but I'll try not to spread those vile and nasty rumours

---snip--- As I'm sure a lot of you are aware, I recently had a stand at a convention promoting www.papercraftdungeon.com and in the run up to that I decided I needed a little bit more variety so I created a whole bunch of dramatically different figures which I pre-printed and sold on the day. These four terrors were among them, and will be the first of that lot to be released. The set will include the four figures shown above, each of which has multiple colouring options, and is customisable using buttons built into the PDF. It also includes a page of 50mm (2 inch) diameter round bases and, of course, the instructions. I also created a few other figures like centaurs and soldiers which I've not included in this set. Apart from the fact that they don't really match the mood of this set, I have much bigger plans for them in terms of customisation options. I'll slot them in after I've finished up the Skeleton Skirmisher set which is already long overdue for release! Wow, these look FANTASTIC! and quite different from your usual awesome stuff. Out of the blue, except for the fact you'd mentioned you were working on 50mm bases somewhere... Aside from your surprise, in this post you managed to answer (at least partly) two of my questions for you: 1) how did the convention go? and 2) what's up with the Skeleton Skirmisher set?

My group, the Forsite Irregulars, has defeated Stonefang and passed the mountains into the Nentir Vale. After taking care of a few loose ends (which will be detailed in the adventure log soon) they've arrived at Winterhaven, their temporary base of operations while exploring The Madness at Gardmore Abby. Although this location is 100% social encounters at this point, I couldn't resist the opportunity to build Winterhaven entirely out of 3D paper terrain. What follows are some build and some live-play shots of their session arriving at Winterhaven: -- snip -- Some action shots... The Irregulars pass through the main gate into the market square: -- snip -- This is my favourite - partly because I couldn't recognize at first what the figure nearest the clock tower was... My first impression was of a man waving his arms in the air, shouting Look at Me! while his dropped his drawers ... Having acquired (just this past day) ALL of Dryw's figures I was missing (AFAIK), I knew I must be wrong. I've since figured out that it is a man hawking his fish, but I did have a chuckle, and am now half-wishing Dryw would add such a crazy character to his next background set. Dryw might need some new blood, now that his dear neighbour the cat lady has been taken away On a more serious note, I am in awe of the effort you put forth for your players. I've caught a glimpse or two of your previous builds (the spiral staircase & the dwarf mountain entrance), and the glorious artwork of your player characters' party. You, and Dryw (and a couple of others here too), have inspired me, a very newbie GM, to go all out. Now if I could only get all my players together so we could actually start... Thanks, and welcome to the new yet strangely familiar Cardboard Warriors empire. I don't anticipate huge changes, but there are some fun things that I want to get rolling right away. First up; Papercut Awrds 2013! We're overdue on starting this project so the start date will be this monday 7/22 where I'll be posting full details on the competition. Much of the format from previous years will remain with the notable exception of no celebrity judges. All voting and judging will be done by the will of the people. There will also be an additional category for Best in Show. Prizes and details on 7/22. Secondly; I love the banner at the top of the forum, but there's more people than Floydski around who can build and shoot a great pic. Starting monday 7/22 I'm doing a forum banner of the month competition. Each month forum members can submit photos of their creations in the forum banner format and the best of the month will be chosen by the membership. More details and specifications on monday. Thirdly; The Forum Hoards...easily the toughest job here. I can promote, participate, and host the finished files. Somebody, or somebodies needs to step up to the plate to manage the collating and presenting aspect. This will sit on hold until somebodies can fill the vacancy. Thanks all, talk to you more later! Wow! I'm still relatively new here, but am glad to see that this forum (and One Monk itself) is set to be re-energized. Congratulations to you, Squirmydad! And thanks to Labrat & Nik, both for carryon One Monk, and for realizing when it's time to move on. I'm excited about the contests, both for the Papercut Awards (as an admirer, and voter!), and for the banner contest where I hope to compete! and show off my favourite works as I assemble them! I don't think I'm experienced enough to help out much with the forum hoards/hordes, but will happily support whomever can!

I understand your frustration, Whiteknight. While I've not been looking for Dwarven bowmen, I have been looking for ANY female dwarf, without success. It is too bad that no archers are included in the OneMonk set, since he does have short bows for the goblins. I could see how the short bow is a little out of character for a dwarf, since it's a light weapon, and they are heavy duty humanoids. Long bows too long, short bows too light, crossbows are the logical choice for a sturdy dwarf.

Do the bases for the Pathfinder Pawns only work for stuff mounted on chip board or is there a similar option for card stock? I will probably take your recomendations and with Reivaj's method. I used the Pathfinder Pawn bases just fine today! I've had fun cutting out a few of my favourite mini artists' work since I found this hobby (and this site) a few months ago, but hadn't yet bothered to make up any bases. I've the Pathfinder Beginner box, but prefer the minis made here. While those bases are designed for the chipboard thickness of the pawns, a quick/easy/lazy workaround is to put a tiny strip of cardstock in the base to wedge the paper mini in there safely, or fold up the base tabs if you have them split. I even wrapped a blade of grass around Dave Okum's free goblin mini's base tab today, as it was Pathfinder & Picnic in the Park Part II for my young son. Worked just fine. But, I plan on trying out Reivaj's basing method this week sometime, or one of the variants floating around. I like the idea of my minis' feet being level with the terrain. One of the reasons I'll be replacing the Pathfinder pawns where & when I can, and converting some bargain-yet-appropriate HeroClix figures as I gain experience...

I agree with Parduz - glad you'll not be switching to Poser. The results of that program/method/whatever definitely lie within the "Uncanny Valley" for me - they are lifeless, dull, and creepy for all the wrong reasons. Having just picked up some of your old Warmancers stuff during the summer sale, and enjoying it, I for one don't think the customers will abandon you anytime soon, no matter how "old-school" your figures are. I hope to pick up the first Deadly Missions soon, as pocket money allows I think it might be a good game to play with my 7-year old on our two-day drive to visit my sister. I may have to simplify the scenarios a bit, but from what I've seen it looks very do-able. And I love me some Inked Adventures!

Thank you for the heads up on that last week, squirmy dad! I'd found Fiddler's Green a few months back, but it took seeing the dragon on the front page for me to dive in. For $15 bucks (signing up for a couple of months' magic keys), I not only got it (originally priced @ $17, then $12) for free, but some other fun stuff, and still $15 worth of store credit (gypsy wagon, here I come!). While I'm completely ignorant of planes, trains, and automobiles (ok, less so that last one), I've a brother-in-law who's an amateur pilot, another whose an avionics technician, and my dad's a fan of all things mechanical. Not to mention the gnomelets who will be thrilled at building more elaborate papercraft as the years go on. And there is plenty of interesting paper architecture as well, some easily adaptable to RPG scenery, historical, fantasy, contemporary, and beyond. Again, I'm so glad for the reminder, and that I finally bit the bullet!

That's great news Kev! I'll pick up your Blazin' Bones for fun this weekend, and maybe even the Lair (you know I can't get enough furniture!). I wouldn't have expected the dungeon furniture set on sale, since I thought it already was ($1.99 instead of $2.49). I'm happy for those who've not already picked it up - BBQ season is now in full swing up here in the Northern Hemisphere. And Good Luck! with your first convention!

This fantastic forum is completely free. However, you will see banner ads up at the top from the company that hosts it (proboards.com) [ha! it autocorrected to pro bards ] unless you pay a fee to remove their ads from all the proboards forums you sign up for. But if you're like me, you'll find those ads easy to ignore. I'll be saving my pennies to support mini-makers, map-makers, and terrain-makers !
